RACE 1: Schweppes Handicap 1400m:

Brillar– Began awkwardly. Passing the 1000m commenced to overrace and had to be restrained from the heels of Vega Prince, then continued to overrace for some distance thereafter.

Persevere– On jumping shifted out making contact with Strombus. A short distance later had to be eased when taken in abruptly by Strombus, which shifted in. Approaching the 1200m had to be eased from the heels of Strombus, which shifted in slightly. Approaching the 1000m had to be restrained after improving on to the heels of Strombus.

Strombus– Passing the 1200m, after being crossed by Excelladus, then had to be restrained from the heels of that runner and as a consequence raced keenly at the heels of Excelladus for some distance thereafter.

Zambrero– After being slow to begin then was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Excelladus– On jumping was bumped by Finepoint, which shifted in. Held up momentarily rounding the home turn and then raced in restricted room between Brillar and I Am Good At This from the 350m until leaving the 200m.

Island Press– Began awkwardly. Passing the 1000m was inconvenienced when bumped by Persevere, which shifted out when racing keenly. Rider J. Collett reported that after obtaining a position towards the rear of the field, his mount commenced to race keenly and when left racing wide he elected to improve from the 800m. He added that the gelding came to the end of its run near the 200m and commenced to weaken. He also added that he dropped his whip passing the 200m. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Pink Ivory– Slow to begin.

I Am Good At This– Began only fairly. When racing keenly raced wide without cover throughout.

Mamounia– A short distance after the start was bumped on the hindquarter by Persevere, which was taken in.

RACE 2: Heineken 3 Handicap 1300m:

Flying Witness– Began awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with Carartie. Near the 250m was bumped by Russians when that runner shifted out.

Concordia– Slow to begin and from the outside barrier then was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Monfelicity– At the start was bumped by Russians. Near the 800m raced keenly for a short distance at the heels of Russians.

Perfect Sapphire– Began awkwardly. Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Pretty Amazing– Shortly after the start was bumped by Wingstofly and then was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Russians– Began awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with Monfelicity..

Tiff– The filly was declared a late scratching at 3.32pm for refusing to be loaded into the barriers. Stewards ruled that all moneys invested on Tiff be refunded in full and that all successful wagers made prior to 3.32pm be subject to the following deductions from the face value of each ticket:

1st Kir Royale              5¢, 4¢

2nd Carartie

3rd Flying Witness

Stable representative Mr D. Beadman was advised that Tiff will be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to being permitted to race again.

Ultimate Pride– Shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Wingstofly– From its wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Near the 1100m, after commencing to race keenly, had to be steadied from the heels of Ultimate Pride (L. Magorrian), which shifted in when not fully clear. L. Magorrian was advised to exercise more care and to ensure that he provides sufficient clearance when shifting ground.

Santorini Sun– Began awkwardly and shortly after the start was crowded by Ultimate Pride, which shifted out abruptly.

RACE 3: Torie Finnane Foundation Handicap 1250m:

Supremo– Laid in under pressure near the 250m, resulting in its rider having to stop riding and straighten. Near the 100m had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of Socialist, which shifted in marginally. When questioned regarding his riding App. R. Jones stated that he had been instructed to obtain a forward position, and after travelling a short distance from the outside barrier, when it became evident to him that he was going to be caught wide, he attempted to restrain his mount in an endeavour to obtain a position with cover behind Alpha Go. He said that whilst attempting this manoeuvre, Socialist maintained its position behind Alpha Go, which prevented him from obtaining cover and, as a consequence, he was obliged to race four-wide without cover for the majority of the race. He added that in hindsight, after being unable to obtain a position behind Alpha Go, it would have been in his mount’s interests to allow Supremo to improve to obtain a position closer to the running rail rather than cover additional ground.

Alpha Go– Began awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with Danish Prince. Raced wide and without cover until the 600m where it obtained a position outside the leader, Crystal Waters.

Captivare– Reared as the start was effected and lost ground. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Approaching the 200m, when endeavouring to improve between Crystal Waters and Moon Reader, had to be steadied when momentarily crowded by Moon Reader, which shifted in slightly.

Optimo– Slow to begin and from its wide barrier then was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Moon Reader– Knuckled on jumping. Lost its off-fore plate in running. When questioned regarding his riding approaching the 600m and the reason he allowed Alpha Go to cross his mount, App. T. Schiller stated that after making some use of his mount to obtain a position outside the leader, he was mindful of his instructions to obtain a position with cover. He said that when Alpha Go improved to his outside and showed intent to obtain the lead, he elected to allow Alpha Go to cross his mount in order to obtain cover behind that runner. Stewards advised App. Schiller that at this stage of the race it would have been more beneficial for his mount’s chances for him to have maintained his position outside the lead rather than be crossed by Alpha Go.

Danish Prince– At the start was bumped by Alpha Go. Inclined to hang out rounding the home turn.

RACE 4: Merry Xmas Members Handicap 1800m:

Outlandos – From its wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Over the concluding stages laid in and brushed Jesse James, resulting in the rider of Outlandos attempting to straighten his mount.

Don Arcangelo – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Dhakuri – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight. Rider J. McDonald pleaded guilty to a charge under AR228(b) in that when unsaddling Dhakuri after the race and when the gelding stood on his foot, he reacted by striking Dhakuri in the stomach region with the butt of his whip. J. McDonald was fined $500.

Legend Has It – Slow to begin and shortly after the start became unbalanced after being bumped heavily by Summit Reach. Approaching the 50m had to be eased when placed close to the heels of Jesse James, which shifted out.

Summit Reach – Jumped awkwardly.

Chief Kidder – Near the 1700m had to be steadied from the heels of Jesse James, which shifted in and away from Viren (App. T. Sherry), which shifted in when not fully clear. App. T. Sherry was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground. Overraced in the early stages.

RACE 5: Precise Air Handicap 1250m:

In Lighten Me– From its wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Near the 500m had to be checked and shifted out abruptly to avoid the heels of Sweet Ruby when that runner lost ground.

Lady Brook– When asked for a comment on the performance, rider N. Rawiller stated that after beginning awkwardly, to comply with his instructions to obtain a leading position, he was obliged to ride aggressively early. He said that after obtaining the lead passing the 1000m he attempted to restrain his mount to set a more sustainable pace, but when Miss Bosetti improved to his outside, he was unable to steady the pace as he would have liked and, as a consequence, Lady Brook weakened over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame (1/5) in the off-foreleg. Trainer Mr J. Pride was advised that a veterinary clearance will be required before Lady Brook is permitted to race/barrier trial again.

Miss Bosetti– App. R. Jones reported that it was not his intention to settle as far forward as he did, however, after beginning well and when left racing without cover the mare raced extremely keenly and as a consequence he was unable to restrain his mount, which continued to apply pressure to leader despite his efforts. He noted that Miss Bosetti was racing in winkers for the first time, which may have contributed to the mare overracing. Lost its off-hind plate in running.

Zoumist– Stood flatfooted and missed the start (6L). Co-trainer Mr R. Freedman was advised that Zoumist would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to being permitted to race again.

Sweet Ruby– Jumped awkwardly and from its wide barrier then was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Near the 500m had to be checked and lost ground after being placed in restricted room to the inside of Bitcoin Baby (App. T. Schiller), which shifted in and made slight contact with Sweet Ruby. App. T. Schiller was advised to exercise more care. When asked for a comment on the performance, rider H. Bowman stated that his mount resented racing to the inside of runners and after suffering interference at the 500m it lost ground and momentum and failed to respond to his riding thereafter. He said that he was not entirely disappointed with the filly’s performance due to the interference suffered near the 500m. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Chloebella Rose– Slow to begin and from its wide barrier then was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

RACE 6: Acy Securities Handicap 1250m:

Zell– Raced keenly in the early stages.

Mensa Missile– Raced keenly in the early stages.

Exotic Ruby– Raced wide and without cover until the 600m where it obtained a position outside the leader, Oriental Runner.

Loch Lomond– Reared as the start was effected and lost ground (2L).

Kurocaine– Near the 600m had to be steadied when placed close to the heels of Exotic Ruby (App. R. Jones), which shifted in when not quiet clear. App. Jones was advised to exercise more care and provide sufficient clearance when shifting ground.

Oriental Runner– App. J. Duggan reported that whilst she anticipated racing with cover, after being caught wide in the early stages she allowed the gelding to stride forward and obtain the lead at the 800m.

Duty– Jumped awkwardly. Rounding the home turn was bumped by Zell, which shifted out in order to improve.

Blazing– Slow to begin and from the outside barrier then was shifted behind runners in the early stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be coughing. Co-trainer Ms C. Curtis advised that Blazing would now be retired. Ms Curtis nevertheless was told that the stable would be required to furnish a veterinary clearance for Blazing should the gelding resume its racing career.

RACE 7: Hall Chadwick Handicsp 1400m:

Rubamos– Began awkwardly.

Safado– Slow to begin and from its wide barrier then was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Briars Kingdom– Approaching the 100m was steadied momentarily when tightened for room between Rubamos and I Am Lethal, both of which shifted ground.

Speed Legend– Slow to begin. Raced keenly approaching and passing the 1200m.

Lennon– Jumped awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Napoleon Solo– Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
