RACE 1: Vinery Stud Plate 1100m:

Construct – After beginning awkwardly was shifted behind runners from the outside barrier in the early stages.

Decisive Strike – Trainer Mr A. Cummings, represented by Mr J. Crowley, was fined $100 for failing to declare a tongue tie as part of the colt's racing gear. A post-race veterinary examination revealed Decisive Strike to be lame (2/5) in the off-foreleg. Trainer Mr A. Cummings was advised that a veterinary clearance will be required prior to Decisive Strike being permitted to race or barrier trial again.

Huesca – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

Khumbu – Shortly after the start was bumped by War Eternal, which was taken out. A short distance later was again hampered by War Eternal, which shifted out, and then was shifted behind runners in the early stages from its wide barrier. At the entrance to the straight, was hampered and taken wider by Retrieval.

Retrieval – K. McEvoy was fined $200 for having negligently weighed out initially without stirrup irons. Retrieval began only fairly and, shortly afterwards, was hampered by Famous Pedrille, which shifted out. At the entrance to the straight was badly hampered when endeavouring to improve around the heels of War Eternal, which after being taken out by Stariks (J. Ford) then shifted out away from that horse. J. Ford was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.

War Eternal – Tightened for room shortly after the start and, from a wide barrier, was then shifted behind runners in the early stages.

RACE 2: The Agency Real Estate Plate 1100m:

Commands Respect – From the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Duchy Of Savoy – Began awkwardly and was then bumped by Mura Mura. Laid out under pressure in the straight, particularly over the final 100 metres.

Falsetto – Bumped at the start. Raced wide and without cover, and was forced wider on the home turn when Mura Mura hung out. The Club's veterinary officer reported that Falsetto had aggravated an old wound to the off-hind fetlock in running. Co-trainer Mr A. Bott was advised that a veterinary clearance will be required prior to Falsetto being permitted to race or barrier trial again.

Firstluv – Began awkwardly and was then shifted behind runners in the early stages from its wide barrier.

Forzanini – Approaching the 800m raced keenly when being steadied to take up a trailing position behind Compassionate. After being held up on the back of Compassionate in the early part of the straight was directed to the inside of that runner and Duchy Of Savoy to obtain clear running at the 300m. Laid out over the concluding stages.

Glittery – Began awkwardly.

Marishiten – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

Mura Mura – Began awkwardly. Commenced to hang out from the 600m and made the home turn awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Mystic Flame – Began only fairly and, shortly after, lost ground when hampered between Tanzimat and Compassionate, which shifted in.

Tanzimat – Approaching the 150m was inconvenienced by Forzanini, which shifted in.

Squiggles – Began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with Falsetto. From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Raced ungenerously in the early stages when being steadied. The filly was not tested over the concluding stages when awkwardly placed outside Glittery.

RACE 3: Microphone @ Darley Handicap 1000m:

Sixgun – Began awkwardly, shifted out, made contact with Heart Of Siena and then raced in restricted room for a short distance between Heart Of Siena and Skedaddle, which shifted out. Rider J. Parr had his whip accidentally struck from his grasp near the 150m.

Kinloch – Began awkwardly.

Skedaddle – When questioned, K. McEvoy stated that, on the strength of the filly's win on debut on 3 February 2021 and in regards to the filly's subsequent trials, he anticipated that Skedaddle would lead today's event, however, after beginning only fairly and being bumped by Magic On Ice, which shifted out, and then making contact with Sixgun soon after the start, Skedaddle did not muster as quickly as he anticipated and consequently was left racing three wide and without cover when The Wayfarer and Magic On Ice showed good speed to lead the race. He said that Skedaddle travelled comfortably in this position and he anticipated that the filly would close off the race strongly in the straight, however, Skedaddle proved somewhat disappointing when placed under full pressure. K. McEvoy also commented that Skedaddle did not change lead legs in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

The Wayfarer – Began awkwardly.

Embeller – Began awkwardly. Held up for clear running from the 400m until passing the 150m, and after passing the 50m was momentarily awkwardly placed inside the heels of Sixgun. Consequently, Embeller was not able to be fully tested over the latter stages.

Dominant Lady – Change of tactics – to be ridden midfield with cover from the outside barrier: Settled back. Hampered on jumping by Stormborn, which shifted out. Dominant Lady was then shifted behind runners in the early stages from the outside barrier.

Heart Of Siena – On jumping was crowded for room and bumped on the hindquarter by Sixgun, which shifted out. Heart Of Siena was then shifted behind runners in the early stages. After being held up in the early part of the straight Heart Of Siena was steadied approaching the 200m when disappointed for a run between Sixgun and Skedaddle, which shifted out slightly.

RACE 4: TAB Handicap 1800m:

So Wicked – Rider J. McDonald reported that it was intended to lead on So Wicked, however, the mare did not muster speed in the early stages and he therefore elected to take a trailing position with cover when the pace was genuine.

Time Raid – Began awkwardly.

Jungle Book – When questioned, J. Collett stated that Jungle Book settled behind midfield as anticipated and enjoyed a soft run in the early and middle stages, however, he became concerned near the 600m with the manner in which the gelding was travelling. He said that Jungle Book proved disappointing as it was very one-paced in the straight. J. Collett added that, in his view, Jungle Book may be more suited over 1600 metres rather than racing over middle distances. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Poulton Le Sands – Slow to begin and then failed to muster any early speed, despite the efforts of its rider.

Devil Dan – A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Roseirro – Rider M. Cahill was fined $200 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on Roseirro on nine occasions prior to the 100m, including two consecutive occasions. In assessing penalty Stewards had regard to Jockey Cahill's good record in this respect.

Chief Kidder – Slow to begin and, from its wide barrier, was then shifted behind runners in the early stages.

RACE 5: Heineken Handicap 1550m:

Bentley Magic – At the 1100m commenced to race fiercely when being steadied from the heels of Olympic Legend, which lost some ground in advance, and consequently shifted out making heavy contact with Reinvest.

Picaro – Trainer Mr G. Portelli was fined $200 under LR35(2) for failing to declare T. Clark as the rider of the gelding by the prescribed time. Picaro began awkwardly and lost ground.

Reinvest – When questioned, B. Avdulla stated that, after being heavily bumped and hampered by Bentley Magic, which shifted out off the heels of Olympic Legend near the 1100m, Reinvest was able to rebalance after a short distance and then travelled satisfactorily. He said, however, that when placed under pressure in the straight, Reinvest was inclined to lay in and was disappointing. He added that Reinvest, which was second-up following a long lay-off, did not appear to let down fully when tested. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Co-trainer Mr A. Bott could offer no tangible explanation for the disappointing performance of Reinvest. He added that they would now look to experiment with the gelding's gear and he undertook to report back on the post-race condition of Reinvest in the days subsequent. Mr Bott was nevertheless advised that Reinvest would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.

Herzegovina – Raced keenly and got its head up for some distance approaching and making the first turn.

Lisdoonvarna – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages

Power Of Attorney – Slow to begin

Maccomo – Began awkwardly.

RACE 6: China Horse Club Handicap 1100m:

Broken Arrows – Change of tactics - to be ridden further forward: Settled worse than midfield. Slow to begin. Passing the 700m improved on to the heels of Gin 'n' Bitters and was checked.

Americana Magic – When questioned regarding his riding of Americana Magic, K. Jennings stated that he had received no set instructions, however, it was anticipated that the gelding, which was resuming today over a shorter distance, would take up a relatively prominent position. He said that after beginning awkwardly, shifting out and making contact with Leave Me Some, he felt his best option was to obtain cover, which resulted in Americana Magic settling back in the field. When questioned in respect to his riding rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight and whether there was an opportunity to shift to the outside of Neretva, K. Jennings stated that, approaching the 400m, he did initially consider the option of shifting out to follow Neretva with a view to shifting further to the extreme outside on straightening, however, he was also mindful that Accelerato was racing in advance of his mount and he anticipated that that horse would take him into the race without having to cover additional ground. He said that when he was too far inside the heels of Neretva to shift out from behind that horse, he followed Accelerato and was unable to fully test his mount in the early stages of the straight until Accelerato quickened approaching and passing the 200m. He said that Americana Magic then closed off the race strongly from a rearward position. K. Jennings was advised that, while Stewards felt that it was not an unreasonable option for him to have followed Accelerato after the 500m, he must at all times keep an open mind with respect to the best option to obtain clear and unimpeded running at the earliest opportunity.

Gin 'n' Bitters – Began only fairly.

Hibiscus Lady – Stewards inquired into an incident near the 1000m where Hibiscus Lady was steadied when racing between Goldfinch and Neretva. App. L. Day, the rider of Hibiscus Lady, stated that at this stage of the race she heard calling from riders to her inside who appeared to be racing in restricted room and, as Goldfinch was starting to shift in slightly when racing in advance of Hibiscus Lady, she felt it best to steady her mount and then endeavour to follow Goldfinch across into an on-pace position. App. Day was advised that, whilst Stewards accepted that Neretva and Wicked Wench were racing in restricted room to her inside as a consequence of Leave Me Some laying out, and Goldfinch did shift in marginally, they were of the view that she had steadied prematurely as there appeared to be sufficient room to maintain her position inside of Goldfinch. App. Day was advised to ensure that she rides competitively at all stages of the race and does not relinquish advantageous positions.

Sedition – A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Goldfinch – Unable to be ridden out over the concluding stages when awkwardly placed between Leave Me Some and Broken Arrows. A post-race veterinary examination revealed Goldfinch to be lame (2/5) in the off-foreleg. Trainer Mr S. Englebrecht was advised that a veterinary clearance will be required prior to Goldfinch being permitted to race or barrier trial again.

Leave Me Some – Stewards permitted App. J. Van Overmeire to replace App. B. Griffiths (indisposed due to injury) as the rider of the mare.

Kawaikini – Slow to begin. Approaching the 900m, got its head up and raced ungenerously when in restricted room between Sedition and Americana Magic. Kawaikini was unable to be fully tested over the final 100 metres when held up for clear running.

Wicked Wench – Approaching the 1000m was steadied when racing tight between Neretva and Leave Me Some, which was inclined to lay out. After the 200m laid out, made contact with Sedition and became unbalanced.

Neretva – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped Hibiscus Lady. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. Lost its near hind plate in running.

RACE 7: Sky Racing Handicap 1300m:

Night Of Power – After beginning only fairly, was shifted behind runners in the early stages from the outside barrier.

Mollycoddle – When held up for clear running in the early part of the straight was directed to the inside to obtain a run and was momentarily awkwardly placed near the heels of Strawb at the 250m.

Vitesse – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

Strawb – After being restless in the barriers was slow to begin. From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages

Kaptive – Began awkwardly and, a short distance later, was tightened for room between Mollycoddle and Lennon, which shifted out. As a consequence, Kaptive was then shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Tri Nations – Change of tactics - to be ridden further forward: Settled midfield. Slow to begin.
