RACE 1: Newhaven Park Handicap 1300m:

Edison – Near the 800m commenced to race keenly and had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Faretti.

Travest –When questioned regarding his riding, T. Berry stated that he was issued with no specific instructions, and particularly in circumstances where the gelding had not established any particular racing pattern. He stated that after jumping awkwardly he was caught wide in the early stages and as a consequence he then elected to restrain his mount whereby he settled at the rear of the field rather than being caught racing wide and without cover. He stated that as he commenced to round the first turn and after committing to obtaining a position at the rear of the field, he then observed a position had become available to the outside of Sweeping Statement, but he was unable to take advantage of that as he had committed already to a position at the tail of the field. He further added that in the middle stages, whilst he was a significant distance from the leaders, he was not too concerned as he felt the tempo in the early stages had been reasonable and this would allow him to finish off the race. He said that whilst he had contemplated making a forward move from the 800m, he was concerned that his mount would be forced wider as he made that manoeuvre, and for this reason he elected to follow Bazooka into the event. He stated that rounding the home turn when Bazooka did not continue a forward move he then was obliged to shift to that runner's outside to start his run, whereby Travest commenced to make ground on the leaders. He said, however, that whilst Travest ran home well, the gelding was inclined to lay in and, in his opinion the gelding was now looking for additional ground. Trainer Mr G. Hickman confirmed that he issued no specific instructions, however, had anticipated Travest settling towards the rear of the field. Stewards advised T. Berry that his decision in the early stages to settle towards the rear of the field was made too prematurely and that his best option would have been to endeavour to try to obtain a more forward position in the early stages, however, they found that his decision to restrain to the tail of the field was not unreasonable in the circumstances.

Sweeping Statement – On jumping shifted in and away from Edison and made contact with Brazen Gem.

Tejori – Near the 800m commenced to raced keenly and was steadied from the heels of Edison.

Bazooka – Began awkwardly and from a wide barrier then was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Near the 350m was inconvenienced when crowded between Brazen Gem, which shifted out slightly, and Travest, which was inclined to lay in. Rider J. Collett stated that in his opinion Bazooka did not handle today's heavy track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 2: TAB Highway Handicap 1000m:

Lord Tony– When commencing to make ground near the 250m was steadied when disappointed for clear running between Fair Dinkum and Enconti. Lord Tony then was shifted to the outside of Enconti to obtain clear running near the 200m.

I'm On BreakSlow to begin (2L). When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, rider T. Clark stated that the gelding was standing awkwardly in the barriers and as a consequence missed the start. He stated that the gelding resented the kickback from today's heavy track and he felt the addition of ear muffs today had not assisted his mount as it was reluctant also to stretch out in the early stages. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Ms M. O'Gorman agreed with the views of T. Clark and added that it is her intention to remove the blinkers and ear muffs from the gelding's gear. Ms O'Gorman undertook to report back on the post-race condition of I'm On Break in the days subsequent.

Bad Boy For Love– Jumped awkwardly.

Leo– Held up and unable to secure clear running until near the 250m.

Foxie La Belle– From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Fair Dinkum–When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, rider A. Adkins stated that in his opinion the gelding was not comfortable on today's heavy track, but was obliged also to cover additional ground when racing wide and without cover throughout the early and middle stages of the event. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Skara Brae– From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Raced wide and without cover from the 700m before being able to obtain cover approaching the 500m.

No What To Keep– Near the 250m had to be steadied when crowded between Fair Dinkum and Nobody's Puppet, which was taken out by Leo (J. Innes), which improved into a narrow run where there was not quite sufficient room to do so. J. Innes was advised to exercise more care and to ensure there is sufficient racing room when he is improving into runs.

Flora Bel– From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

RACE 3: Grunt Standing At Yulong Handicap 1100m:

Switched – Lost its near-fore plate.

Hulk – Began only fairly. After being crossed by Tailleur near the 800m was inclined to raced keenly and was steadied from the heels of that runner for some distance thereafter.

Best Stone – Began awkwardly. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of the filly, rider N. Rawiller stated that whilst travelling outside the lead and held together, Best Stone travelled reasonably well through the heavy track conditions. He stated that on straightening he attempted to improve to challenge the leader, Switched, however, his mount did not stretch out on the heavy track and as a consequence weakened in the straight. N. Rawiller stated that Best Stone had pleased him in two barrier trials leading up to today's race and also having ridden the filly in work whereby he had expected her to perform well today. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr J. Thompson confirmed the views of N. Rawiller in that the filly had not handled today's heavy track conditions. Mr Thompson was questioned in respect to Best Stone being scratched from races on 24 June and 1 July whereby the filly had been expected to start. Mr Thompson stated that on those occasions the filly had either drawn wide or he was endeavouring to avoid heavy tracks, and given the current track conditions in Sydney he said that he was left with no alternative but to race Best Stone on today's heavy track. Mr Thompson stated that he would now endeavour to avoid rain-affected tracks with the filly and he undertook to report back on the progress of Best Stone in the days subsequent to the race.

Mr Polar – Began awkwardly and shortly after had to be eased to avoid the heels of Tailleur, which shifted in. Raced keenly in the early stages and as a result was caught racing wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Tickler – Slow to begin.

Key Largo – From the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. After the 800m commenced to raced keenly and refused to settle.

RACE 4: Quincy Seltzer Handicap 1800m:

Matowi– From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

High Opinion– Began only fairly.

Mr Dependable– When questioned regarding his riding of the gelding, T. Clark stated that whilst he was given the option to lead, with the other noted front-running horses in the race and his mount stepping up to 1800m today he was given the option also to obtain a position with cover behind those noted speed horses. He stated that with a head wind in the back straight he felt this also may be advantageous for Mr Dependable to obtain cover. T. Clark stated that when Toryjoy and Dylan's Romance went forward as expected, he then allowed Mr Dependable to take a trailing position behind those runners. He stated that as is customary with Mr Dependable the gelding had an inclination to lay in throughout the race, but in his view, whilst the gelding has some established form on rain-affected going he felt today's heavy track conditions did not assist his mount together with stepping up in grade and distance to 1800m. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Dylan's Romance– Slow to begin.

RACE 5: Ranvet Handicap 1000m:

Lashes – Began awkwardly and made contact with Longbottom. Lashes then was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Rider J. McDonald stated that after jumping awkwardly his mount was able to take up a mid-field position where it travelled reasonably well. He stated that when he obtained clear running at the 350m Lashes did not respond to his riding and raced in a disappointing manner. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be slow to recover. Trainer Mr M. Smith could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance and he undertook to report back to the Stewards on the condition of the mare and to advise of the future race plans for Lashes.

Longbottom – Rider J. Collett stated that after shifting to the outside of Superium on straightening, his mount commenced to make up good ground in the early part of the straight, but near the 150m its run ended and the filly did not finish off the race after this point. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Worldly Pleasure – Trainer Mr D. Mirfin was fined $50 under AR65 for failing to provide the Thoroughbred Identification Card for the mare when requested. Near the 800m had to be steadied when crowded between Twirling Moss, which shifted out slightly, and Fanciful Dream, which, after being taken in by Invincible Kiss, shifted in and away from that runner slightly. Held up briefly near the 300m.

Invincible Kiss – Near the 500m was steadied to avoid the heels of Spaceboy (K. O'Hara), which shifted in when not quite clear. K. O'Hara was reprimanded.

RACE 6: TAB Live Vision Handicap 2400m:

The Getaway– Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

Elaborate– Raced keenly in the middle stages.

Lady Highly– Rider J. Collett stated that the mare raced a little keenly today with blinkers on and the recommendation was that they be removed for its next race start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be slow to recover. Trainer Ms C. Cunningham concurred with the views of J. Collett and advised that she would now remove the blinkers from the mare. Ms Cunningham stated that she would now space the runs for Lady Highly and also would endeavour to find a suitable race back in grade for its next race start. Ms Cunningham undertook to report back on the post-race condition of the mare.

Continuation– From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

After being crossed by True Marvel near the 2200m commenced to race keenly and was steadied from the heels of that runner. Near the 500m had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Eugenio (T. Clark), which shifted around the heels of Lady Highly to improve. T. Clark was reprimanded.

Curata Princess– Shortly after the start was bumped by Eugenio, which shifted out.

RACE 7: Sky Racing Active Handicap 1400m:

Outback Diva– Raced wide and without cover after the 1000m.

Zourhea– Began only fairly and then for some distance shortly after the start had to be steadied when crowded between Merlinite and Spanish Dream, which began awkwardly and shifted in. Zourhea then was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Jay Jay D'Ar– Once crossed by Vitesse near the 1000m commenced to raced keenly for a short distance thereafter. When questioned J. McDonald stated that his instruction was to obtain cover on the mare and although his mount was best to begin from its inside barrier, he allowed Vitesse and Threeood to cross his mount so that he could comply with his instructions. He stated that after being crossed by Vitesse Jay Jay D'Ar raced a little keenly but failed to handle the heavy track conditions today. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be slow to recover.

High Low Bet– When questioned regarding the mare racing more forward today, rider K. McEvoy stated that his intention was to be in a mid-field position, however, after beginning well and from a favourable barrier High Low Bet was able to take up a more forward position.

Miss Redoble– Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be displaying cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer Mr T. Bartley was advised that a veterinary clearance, including a satisfactory ECG, will be required prior to Miss Redoble barrier trialling to the satisfaction of the Stewards.

Our Fun– Began awkwardly.

Spanish Dream– After beginning awkwardly then was shifted behind runners in the early stages from its wide barrier.

Merlinite– Shortly after the start was hampered by Zourhea.

Riva Capri– Rider J. Collett stated that the filly raced a little keen and became unbalanced when under pressure on the home turn and could not finish off the race. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr K. Lees undertook to report back on the future race plans for the filly.

Vitesse– Rider B. Avdulla dropped his whip passing the 200m.

RACE 8: Heineken 3 Handicap 1300m:

Top Striker– Near the 800m was hampered and carried wider when Cristal Breeze shifted out when being steadied from the heels of Bergen. Lost its near-hind plate.

Rari– When questioned regarding the performance, rider N. Rawiller stated that he had to make some use of his mount to go forward in a race run at a genuine tempo, and after being crossed by Noble Joey his mount did not relax throughout the middles stages. He stated that from the 900m he elected to remain racing wide to endeavour to look for better ground, but after entering the straight Rari became under pressure and gave ground. He stated that the performance was due to the use he had to make of the gelding in the early stages and that his mount may not have been entirely comfortable on today's heavy track. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Handspun– After being slow to begin then was hampered when tightened between Cristal Breeze and Top Striker, which shifted in.

Cristal Breeze– Approaching the 300m was bumped by Bergen and became unbalanced.

Bergen– T. Berry (Handspun) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that approaching the 300m he improved into a run between Rari and Bergen where there was insufficient room, which resulted in Bergen having to be checked when crowded between Cristal Breeze and Handspun. T. Berry's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday 12 July 2020 and to expire on Saturday 18 July 2020 on which day he may ride. Rider B. Avdulla stated that in his opinion Bergen would be better suited when being able to dictate terms in front and believed the gelding did not appreciate today's heavy track conditions and. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Tahsin– From the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Near the 100m Agassi ran out under pressure towards Kiss The Bride, resulting in Kiss The Bride then shifting out away from that runner.

Our Winnie – Began only fairly.
