Pride-trained filly goes Ballistic in the Denise’s Joy Stakes

The $140,000, Listed, Emirates Park Denise’s Joy Stakes (1100m) staged on Saturday’s Rosehill Gardens program in Sydney saw Ballistic Lover (by Smart Missile) live right up to her name by blitzing her opposition with a sustained show of brilliant natural speed to lead from start to finish.

Despite having to carry top-weight of 58kg and to overcome the disadvantage of the next-but-one outside barrier in a full field of 16 runners, the Joe Pride-trained filly proved explosive in the black-type feature and completely out-sped her rivals to score a clear-cut win — her first in stakes company.

The 3-year-old fillies contest ultimately saw Majestic Shot (by Shooting to Win) produce a strong late finishing burst to fill second place, ahead of Nags To Riches (by Written Tycoon) in third.

Newsreader went to post the $3.80 favourite but finished 12th of the sixteen starters.

Raced in the colours of Tricolours Racing & Syndications, Ballistic Lover went into the Listed Race feature the winner of her previous outing when first-up from a spell, having also made all the running to score in a 1050m event at Doomben.

Three prior victories had witnessed the very rapid daughter of Smart Missile take a sit in wins at Warwick Farm (twice) and Wyong.

An $80,000 yearling sale purchase, Ballistic Lover proved to be a class above her opposition in today’s event and now seems certain to make her mark in Group company — and quite possibly during the current Queensland Winter Carnival.

Winning time of the Denise’s Joy Stakes was 1m04.98s, the final 600m sectional being run in 35.47s.

SPs on the event were Ballistic Lover $18.00, Majestic Shot $12.00, and Nags to Riches $6.00.

Official margins were registered as 2-1/2 Len x Long Head.
