Tycoon Bec Change of tactics To be ridden with cover. Raced wide in the early stages before crossing to obtain the lead approaching the 1200 metres. Rider Jamie Kah reported it had been her intention to ride the mare with cover, however, her mount began well and she elected to stride to the lead. Trainer Phillip Stokes advised he was surprised to see Defiant Dancer so far forward but attributed the positioning of the horse early to the better jump today and perhaps being second up from a break.

Team Captain (IRE) Slow to begin. Raced wide without cover throughout. Rider Blaike McDougall explained it had been his intention to settle in a handy position with cover and through the early stages, when he endeavoured to improve, runners to his inside maintained their position resulting in the gelding being obliged to race wide throughout.

Pappalino (FR) Slow to begin.

Think Were Due Led and raced keenly. When questioned, rider Zac Spain explained it was not his intention to lead the field by a large margin in the early stages, however, after beginning well and with the horse comfortable, he allowed his mount to stride. He said the gelding travelled comfortably and only commenced to weaken passing the 200 metres. He added Think Were Due would be better suited over a shorter distance.

Good Idea Lay in under pressure in the straight.

Long Arm (IRE) Passing the 200 metres was taken in off its course, being tightened towards heels of Mankayan and having to be steadied.

Blaike McDougall (Team Captain) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provision of AR131(a) in that passing the 200 metres he permitted his mount to shift in whilst riding along, when not clear of Long Arm (IRE), taking that horse in off its course and being tightened towards the heels of Mankayan and being steadied. B McDougalls licence to ride in races was suspended for a total of eight meetings to commence midnight 21 December, 2021 and to expire at the conclusion of the day meeting 31 December, 2021 (2 metro, 6 provincial). In assessing penalty, account was taken of his guilty plea, record and that the carelessness was in the low-range.

Co-trainer David Eustace explained the gelding has a poor record when resuming from a spell and would derive benefit from todays performance. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormality and a sample was taken for analysis.

Takumi Raced wide throughout.

Wyclif (GB) Held up in the early stages of the run to the finish. Passing the 200 metres steadied when again held up and to avoid the heels of Confrontational, which was carried in marginally by The Awesome Son (Beau Mertens), which shifted in.
