RACE 1:  In Memory Of Clifford William Marsh OAM 3YO Maiden Plate 900m

Little Miss Magic – Began awkwardly and lost ground.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

 

One Pose – The filly, which got its head down simultaneously to the start being effected, then began awkwardly and shortly after was hampered by Lanks, which shifted out.  Near the 700m was bumped and carried inwards by Glacier Queen.  On straightening became held up behind Madiba Rose and approaching the 250m was checked when disappointed for clear running between Glacier Queen and Madiba Rose, which shifted out slightly.  One Pose was then shifted to the outside of Glacier Queen to secure clear running approching the 200m.

 

Lanks – On jumping shifted out and made contact with One Pose.  Hung in rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight.

 

Glacier Queen – After being slow to begin, then was shifted behind runners in the early stages from its wide barrier.

 

Madiba Rose – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.  Over the final strides was unable to be ridden out when positioned close to the heels of Rockbarton Pat.

RACE 2:  Race To Join The People Of AMPControl 4YO&Up Maiden Handicap 1400m

Miss Connie – Began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with Preferred Choice.  Raced fiercely throughout the early and middle stages and refused to settle.

 

Eptiwins – Began only fairly.  Approaching the 1200m was bumped by Pentacost.  When questioned regarding the performance, rider K Jennings stated that he anticipated obtaining a position with cover behind the leaders, however, when his mount was caught wide in the early stages, he was obliged to continue forward to race outside the leader Auzstar.  He stated his mount travelled well throughout the middle stages and he could give no explanation for its failure to finish the race off.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

 

Sally Jean – Began only fairly and a short distance later was inconvenienced by Preferred Choice, which shifted out slightly.  Raced keenly in the middle stages.

 

Cosmic Miss – After being slow to begin, then was shifted behind runners in the early stages from the outside barrier.

 

Opal Glory – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.  Raced keenly in the middle stages, then was held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight.

 

Bobby Sox – Shortly after the start was bumped by Fernanda, which shifted out slightly. From a wide barrier was then shifted behind runners in the early stages.

 

Midnight Oasis – Approaching the 200m, when inclined to lay out, was hampered by Pentacost, which shifted in slightly.

 

No Pressure – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

 

Pentacost – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

 

Auzstar – When questioned regarding the performance, rider L Magorrian stated that, as notified by Stewards, he was instructed to lead and he was able to obtain the lead in the early stages without placing his mount under undue pressure.  He stated, after securing the lead, he slowed the tempo and he felt the moderate sectionals during the middle stages were to his mount’s advantage, however when placed under pressure rounding the home turn his mount raced greenly, before it weakened over the final 300m.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.  Stewards will follow up on the post-race condition of Auzstar.

RACE 3:  Axel Aria and Levi Lowe Benchmark 64 handicap 1850m

Lava – As C Reith was overweight, Stewards permitted B Loy to be substituted as the rider of the gelding and to ride it at 1kg over its allotted weight of 55kg.  C Reith was fined $100 under AR190(3).  Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

 

Dalgarno – After being slow to begin, then was shifted behind runners in the early stages from its wide barrier.

 

Hendo’s Magic –When questioned regarding the performance, rider M Weir stated that, after being slow to begin her mount was caught wide in the early stages and she was obliged to make significant use of her mount to obtain a position outside the leader Rockover near the 1100m.  She added as a consequence of the work her mount did in the early stages it was left without a finishing effort. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame 1/5 in the off-foreleg.  Trainer G Frazer was told that a veterinary clearance must be furnished prior to Hendo’s Magic barrier trialling or racing again.

RACE 4:  Newcastle Stevedores Maiden Plate 1200

Decisive Strike – Stewards permitted A Bullock to ride the colt 0.5kg over its allotted weight of 57.5kg.

 

Cassilio – Stewards permitted K Jennings to ride the filly 1kg over its allotted weight of 55.5kg.  Began awkwardly, shifted out abruptly, made contact with Famous Pedrille and as a result K Jennings became very unbalanced.

 

Famous Pedrille – On jumping was bumped by Cassilio, which shifted out.  Laid in under pressure in the home straight and had difficulty securing completely clear running until near the 200m.

 

Royal Ballet – Began awkwardly and made contact with Decisive Strike.  A short distance later Royal Ballet was steadied when crowded between Decisive Strike and Wheel, which was taken out by Tyquendo.  Royal Ballet was then shifted behind runners in the early stages from its wide barrier.  Raced keenly in the early stages.  Had difficulty securing completely clear running until approaching the 100m.

 

Russian Style – Began very awkwardly and lost considerable ground (4L).

 

Love Like Gabe – After being slow to begin, then was shifted behind runners in the early stages from its wide barrier.

 

Hadouken – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

 

Wheel – Shortly after the start was eased when tightened between Royal Ballet and Tyquendo, which shifted out and away from Sherwood’s One.  Wheel was then shifted behind runners in the early stages from its wide barrier.  Passing the 200m was steadied when disappointed for clear running between Janosik and Just Strolling, which shifted in slightly.  Wheel was then held up on the heels of Janosik for the remainder of the race and went to the line without being fully tested.

 

Sherwood’s One – Passing the 100m was bumped by Royal Ballet, which shifted out.

 

Tyquendo – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

 

Just Strolling – When questioned regarding the performance, rider C Reith stated that, from the outside barrier, he had to make some use of his mount to obtain a position outside the leader Black On Beauty near the 900m.  He stated that, after assuming this position, he attempted to ease the tempo, however, his mount raced keenly and as a consequence weakened in the home straight.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

 

RACE 5:  Beauford Hotel Maiden Handicap 1600m

Warminster – Began awkwardly.  Rider L Magorrian reported that his mount hung out throughout the event.

 

Hide Your Heart – After being slow to begin, was then hampered by Abenaki, which shifted in.

 

Russian Ruble – From the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

 

Gerardjoseph – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.  Held up rounding the home turn.

 

Another Sonette – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

 

Mighty Willie – Raced ungenerously in the early stages.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be 1/5 lame in the near-foreleg.  Trainer Mr C Waller was told a veterinary clearance must be furnished prior to Mighty Willie barrier trialling or racing again.

 

Count On Me – Overraced in the early stages.

 

Sound Of Silence – Rounding the home turn was bumped and taken wider by Russian Ruble, which shifted to the outside of Count On Me to secure clear running.  Rider A Bullock reported that his mount raced greenly throughout the event and was inclined to shift away from other horses.

 

Lekvarte – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

 

Uncaged – A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

 

Balmain Lad – Rider R Hutchings reported that his mount hung out throughout the event and as a consequence proved difficult to ride out in the straight.  Trainer Mr M Smith was told a warning would be placed on the gelding’s record.

 

RACE 6:  Newsure Insurance Brokers Class 1 Handicap 900m

Greenheart – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn.

 

Career Change – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped Positive Factor.  Laid out rounding the home turn.

 

Positive Factor – On jumping was bumped by Career Change, which shifted out.

 

True Valentine – After being slow to begin, then shifted out and away from Josie’s Jet and had to be steadied from the heels of Rupertaar.

 

Mandirigma – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

 

I Love Lucy – Shortly after the start was bumped by Positive Factor.  Raced wide and without cover throughout the vet.  A post-race veterinary examination….

 

In Spades – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight and for some distance after the 200m had difficulty securing a narrow run between Greenheart and Josie’s Jet, which shifted in slightly.  When in completely clear running approaching the 100m the gelding finished its race off strongly.

 

Spanish Pearl – M Bell, rider of the 6th placed mare, was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out fully to the winning post.

 

RACE 7:  Hobson Engineering Conditional Benchmark 68 Handicap 1200m

Free Rider – A veterinary examination of the gelding, which went down in the float en route to the course and sustained superficial abrasions to its off-side rump, deemed it suitable to race.  After beginning only fairly, then was shifted behind runners in the early stages from a wide barrier.

 

Young Heart – Shortly after the start was tightened for room between Standing Bear and Frostin’, both of which shifted ground.  Rider K Jennings reported that rounding the home turn his mount was held up behind Atherton.  He stated he remained racing behind that runner in the early part of the straight and when a run developed to its inside approaching the 300m he shifted his mount inwards and attempted to improve, however his mount was disappointed for this run near the 250m when Atherton shifted in. He stated that he then shifted his mount out and attempted to improve between Atherton and Titration, however his mount was disappointed for that run near the 150m when Atherton shifted out. He added that he was then able to secure clear running to the inside of Atherton near the 100m, where he was able to place his mount under full pressure.

 

Texas Storm – From the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

 

Frostin’ – Raced keenly in the early stages.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be 2/5 lame in the near-foreleg.  Co-trainer Mr Paul Snowden was told a veterinary clearance must be furnished prior to Frostin’ barrier trialling or racing again.  Mr Snowden advised that Frostin’ would now be spelled.

 

Clearly Regal – Near the 700m was steadied from the heels of Sheriff.

 

Cecilia – Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

 

Titration – Rider A Gibbons reported that, when caught wide rounding the first turn near the 1000m, he attempted to restrain his mount to obtain cover behind Frostin’, however, his mount raced fiercely and failed to respond to his efforts and as a consequence he allowed it to stride forward to assume a position outside the lead near the 700m.

 

RACE 8:  Quarry Mining & Construction Equipment Class 1 Handicap 1300m

Sidereal – Co-trainer Mr R Freedman was fined $200 under LR35(2) for the late declaration of L Magorrian as the rider of the gelding.  Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

 

Spicy Restaurant – Began awkwardly and shortly after was tightened for room between Sidereal and Noble Beauty.  Spicy Restaurant was then shifted behind runners from its wide barrier.

 

Mihocek – After being slow to begin, was then shifted behind runners in the early stages from its wide barrier.  Raced keenly in the middle stages.

 

Noble Beauty – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

 

The Brotherhood – From the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

 

Tympanist – Raced keenly in the middle stages.  Held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight.

 

Bella Violet – Had difficulty securing completely clear running until near the 200m.

 

Irish Kisses – M Bell reported that his mount raced flat and may have come to the end of its preparation.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.  Stable representative Mrs T Bartley confirmed that Irish Kisses would now be spelled.

 

Elani Rose – A post-race veterinary examination of the mare, which compounded in the straight, revealed it to be slow to recover.  Trainer Mr K Parker was told that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the mare barrier trialling or racing again.  Mr Parker advised it was now his intention to drop the mare back to country grade.

Summary of whip use:

Stewards noted the following riders exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m under AR132(7)(a)(ii).  Bearing in mind the totality of whip use, no action was taken.
