COMMITTEE OF STEWARDS:  T P Moxon (Chairman), D L Carr, C L Albrecht, S C Knight and cadet J D Boehm                                                                                               jl

RACE 1:  Macka’s Sand & Soil Class 1 & Maiden Plate 1850m

Miler – Slow to begin and blundered shortly after the start.

Reaching – Began only fairly.

Midi – Raced ungenerously throughout the early and middle stages.

Lunar Rain – Rider J Collett reported that when caught wide and without cover throughout the early and middle stages, he restrained the mare in an endeavour to take up a position at the rear of the field.  He said that when Midi, which was positioned to his inside, was also being restrained by its rider in the middle stages, he was obligated to take up a position further back than he would have liked to ensure Lunar Rain obtained cover.  He added, bearing in mind the tempo of the race throughout the early and middle stages, when the tempo increased near the 600m he found it difficult to make up ground from the rear of the field. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 2:  GTS Lawnpride Australia CG&E Maide Handicap 1400m

Cantrell – Began only fairly and then from the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Namazu – Began only fairly.

Yangtze Rapids – Knuckled on jumping.  Rider J McDonald reported that he was able to obtain a favourable position throughout the event, however, when the tempo of the race increased approaching the home turn, the colt was unable to quicken.  He added that in his opinion Yangtze Rapids would be better suited to races over a longer distance.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Sidearm – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Marsh Lillie – Shortly after the start was bumped by Volterra, which shifted in.

Volterra – Raced keenly throughout the middle stages.

Yiyi – Raced keenly in the middle stages and for some distance after the 1000m raced in restricted room to the inside of Volterra.

Savvy Legend – Rider K McEvoy reported that he was instructed to obtain a midfield position with cover.  He said after beginning well, he endeavoured to comply with his instructions, however, when he had runners positioned to his inside, he was unable to obtain a trailing position and as a result Savvy Legend was left wide and without cover.  He stated that Savvy Legend was not travelling well enough to make a forward manoeuvre to cross Volterra and obtain a position close to the rails.  He added that, bearing in mind the wide run Savvy Legend endured throughout the event, he was not too disappointed with its overall performance.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 3:  Advanced Pest Control F&M Maiden Handicap 1400m

Himiko – Slow to begin.  When the tempo slackened in the middle stages, improved onto the heels of True Faith and was steadied.

Bargain – Began only fairly.  Held up rounding the home turn.

Latin Lyric – Began only fairly and shortly after the start was hampered by Covent Garden, which shifted out.  Laid in in the early part of the straight and for a short distance passing the 200m was held up behind Covent Garden and O’Tartan Lass.

Zurla – Shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Darling Diamond – From the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

True Faith – Raced keenly throughout the early stages.

Splendiferous – Held up rounding the home turn and did not obtain clear running until passing the 300m when able to secure a run between Covent Garden and Alumna.

Delaware – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

RACE 4:  Minder Cloud Services Hurrican Handicap 900m

Condor – A veterinary examination of the gelding, which got its off-hind leg up on the running board after being loaded deemed it suitable to race.  Rider A Bullock reported that, with the strong tempo of today’s race, the gelding never travelled at any stage and in his opinion would be better suited over a longer distance.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Patriot – Slow to begin.

Akasaki – Slow to begin.  Had difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the home turn.

Burning Crown – Slow to begin.  Shortly after the start was eased from the heels of Junglized, which shifted in slightly.

Another Sin – Began awkwardly.

Trust Me – Began only fairly and then from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.  Rider R King reported that, although the gelding had been successful in races over 900m, the gelding did not travel due to the tempo of today’s race.  She added that the gelding, which was first up, would derive a fitness benefit from today’s performance.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Junglized – Near the 200m when giving ground was hampered by Itz Invincible which, after initially being taken out by Akasaki, shifted out and away from that runner.  Rider T Clark reported that he was able to obtain a prominent position, however, the gelding did not respond to his riding in the straight and he could offer no explanation for today’s disappointing performance.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Itz Invincible - Over the concluding stages was bumped by Patriot and became slightly unbalanced.

RACE 5:  Australian Bloodstock Cameron Handicap (Group 3) 1500m

The Candy Man – The stable notified Stewards yesterday that the gelding sustained a laceration to its off-fore hoof whilst at the beach on Wednesday, 16 September 2020.  The gelding was examined by the Club's Veterinary Officer upon arrival on course and deemed suitable to race.  Began only fairly and from the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.  Held up rounding the home turn.  Lost its off-fore plate in running.

Chief Ironside – When leaving the mounting enclosure the horse brushed its off-side hip on the gate.  Chief Ironside was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Officer on arrival at the barriers and deemed suitable to race.

Interlocuter - Slow to begin and shortly afterwards was steadied from the heels of Miss Fabulass, which shifted out.  Rounding the home turn raced in restricted room between Royal Tudor and Ondo Pasa, which shifted out.

Ondo Pasa – Slow to begin.

Rock – Began only fairly.

Royal Tudor – Began only fairly and then from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

McCormack – Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Special Reward – Approaching the winning post brushed with The Candy Man.

Miss Fabulass – Rider G Boss reported he was instructed to obtain a position with cover.  He added that his mount commenced to race keenly in the early stages and proved reluctant to shift behind Just Thinkin’.  He said that, when Chief Ironside then improved to his inside, he was unable to obtain a position with cover.  He added that Miss Fabulass then continued to race keenly and as a result he allowed the mare to stride forward and assume the lead near the 900m.  G Boss further stated that, as a result of the racing manners of Miss Fabulass, it was unable to finish its race off and, when weakening noticeably in the straight, he desisted from riding the mare out over the final 150m.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.  Trainer Mr K Lees confirmed that it was imperative that Miss Fabulass obtain cover as the mare can race in this manner when unable to do so, similar to how it raced in the 2019 Randwick Guineas.  Mr Lees undertook to report back to the Stewards on the immediate racing future for the mare.

RACE 6:  Sharp Electronics Group Newcastle Gold Cup (Group 3) 2300m

Sweet Thomas – Slow to begin.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.  The Stewards will follow up on the post-race condition of the gelding.

Azuro – On jumping was crowded between Aliferous and Mugatoo, which both shifted ground.

Norway – Began only fairly.

Nothing Too Hard – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.  Raced keenly in the middle stages.

Herengawe – Passing the winning post on the first occasion, when racing keenly, was eased to avoid the heels of Attention Run (A Gibbons) when that runner shifted in when not clear.  A Gibbons was advised to exercise more care.

Zacada – Passing the 2100m, when racing keenly, had to be steadied when crowded by The Lord Mayor, which was taken in by Carzoff (L Magorrian).  In all the circumstances L Magorrian was advised to exercise more care.  Raced keenly in the middle stages.

Mugatoo – Approaching the 350m made contact with Norway.

Attention Run - After passing the 300m was briefly crowded between Mugatoo and Paths of Glory, which shifted out.

Paths Of Glory – Passing the 200m shifted out abruptly, resulting in its rider having to stop riding and straighten the gelding.

The Lord Mayor – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be 2/5 lame in the off-foreleg.  Stable representative Mr C Duckworth was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to The Lord Mayor barrier trialling or racing again.

RACE 7:  Yarraman Park Tibbie Stakes (Groupe 3) 1400m

Game Of Thorns – Trainer Mr K Lees was fined $100 under LR35(2) for the late declaration of A Gibbons as the rider of the mare.  Held up rounding the home turn.  Passing the 150m was held up behind Missybeel.  As a result Game Of Thorns was steadied from the heels of that runner and obliged to shift to the outside of Miss Siska passing the 75 to obtain clear running.  Over the concluding stages was unable to be fully ridden out when positioned behind Asiago.

Into The Abyss – Stewards permitted N Rawiller to ride the mare 1kg over its allotted weight of 55kg.  Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

All Saints Eve – Stewards permitted J McDonald to ride the mare 1kg over its allotted weight of 55kg.  Held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight before securing clear running between Miss Siska and La La Loopsy near the 300m.

Wandabaa – Slow to begin and then shortly after was crowded between Yamazaki and French Response, which shifted in.  From a wide barrier was then shifted behind runners in the early stages.  Held up for clear running in the early part of the straight and near the 300m shifted out and bumped House Of Cartier when endeavouring to secure clear running.

Air To Air – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.  Raced ungenerously throughout the event and raced ungenerously in the middle stages.

Regimental Band – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Stella Sea Sun – From the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Asiago – Raced keenly in the early stages and near the 1300m was eased from the heels of Miss Siska.  When questioned regarding her riding in the straight, Rider R King stated that rounding the home turn she was trailing La La Loopsy with Into The Abyss positioned to her outside.  She said she felt Into The Abyss would quicken, which would provide her with an opportunity following that runner into the race and as a result she endeavoured to shift to the outside of La La Loopsy.  She added that when Into The Abyss did not quicken as anticipated, she was disappointed for running between that runner and La La Loopsy inside the 400m and as a result became held up behind La La Loopsy.  She said that she then observed a run had developed to the inside of La La Loopsy, however, All Saints Eve had improved quickly to her inside and established a run between La La Loopsy and Miss Siska, which then resulted in Asiago being steadied when disappointed for this run.  Stewards found that her decision to shift to the outside in an endeavour to secure clear running was not unreasonable in the circumstances, bearing in mind when she had commenced this manoeuvre there was not a run available to her between La La Loopsy and Miss Siska.

Miss Siska – Raced keenly in the middle stages.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

La La Loopsy - Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

Electric Girl – Held up over the final 75m when positioned behind Best Stone and as a consequence could not be tested fully to the finish line.
