Supplementary Reports:

NEWCASTLE - Saturday 27 June 2020

Race 4:  Rarity Wholesale 2YO Maiden Plate 900m

Brownie’s Song– Trainer Mr M Dwyer advised that an endoscopic examination of the gelding on return to his stables revealed it to have mucous in its trachea, which required treatment.  Mr Dwyer advised Brownie’s Song had now been spelled.

RACE 1:  Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation 2YO Handicap 1600m

Ficheur – Began awkwardly.  When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, rider C O'Brien stated that his mount, which was stepping up quickly to 1600m, raced a little keenly in the early stages, however, travelled well through the middle stages.  He said that his intention was to make his run to the outside of runners in the straight, however, as his mount was positioned inside the heels of Under Orders rounding the home turn, he was obliged to improve through the field.  C O'Brien added that, when placed under pressure in the home straight, his mount laid out and failed to finish its race off as he had anticipated.  He said in his opinion Ficheur did not appreciate racing inside runners and may have also come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have sustained a minor laceration to the off-hind leg.

Hilarious – Shortly after the start the filly commenced to buck and lost significant ground.  Trainer Mr J Deamer was told that the filly would have to barrier trial satisfactorily before the Stewards prior to racing again.

Reach Beyond – From the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.  Raced keenly in the early stages.

Charging Miss – Raced wide and without cover from the 800m.

Desert Flame – Laid out rounding the home turn.

RACE 2:  TAB – Long May We Play Maiden Plate 1400m

Saquon – The gelding was declared a late scratching at 12.30pm when it refused to be loaded.  The Stewards ruled that all monies invested on Saquon be refunded in full and that all successful wagers made prior to 12.30pm be subject to the following deductions in the face value of each ticket:

1st Royal Marine 35 cents win 25 cents place

2nd Lake Marion 34 cents place

Stable representative Mr M Rowland was told Saquon must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again.

Right Bower – Slow to begin.

Red Hot Zone – Began awkwardly.

Royal Marine – Raced ungenerously in the early stages when being restrained to obtain a position with cover trailing Red Hot Zone and then continued to race keenly in the middle stages.  Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

Lake Marion – Hung in under pressure in the early part of the home straight and near the 250m bumped Timon Stinger.

RACE 3:  Sharp Electronics Group Class 2 Handicap 1300m

Light Of Uluru Slow to begin (2L).

Reiby’s Regent – Began awkwardly and was then shifted in behind runners from its wide barrier.  Laid in under pressure over the final 300m.

Favra – Slow to begin.

Toomai – On jumping was bumped by Stoked.  K Latham (Reiby’s Regent) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that he permitted his mount to shift in near the 150m when insufficiently clear of Titus, which was carried in onto Toomai, which had to be steadied when crowded between Titus and Favra.  K Latham’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Saturday, 11 July 2020 and to expire on Friday, 17 July 2020, on which day he may ride.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Titus – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.  Lost it’s off-fore plate in running.

Showtime Lady –Rounding the first turn near the 1000m when racing keenly, got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of Royal Banquet (K Jennings), which shifted in when not quite clear.  K Jennings was told to ensure he is two lengths clear when shifting ground.  When questioned regarding the performance, rider G Schofield stated that his mount overraced throughout the early and middle stages when positioned behind runners and, when the tempo increased from the 600m, his mount initially failed to respond to his riding, which allowed Toomai to shift out in advance of his mount.  G Schofield further stated that after straightening his mount became held up on the heels of Titus for a short distance and then, when Toomai struck interference in advance of his mount near the 150m, Showtime Lady shifted out abruptly and lost ground.  He added that in his opinion Showtime Lady is inexperienced, did not appreciate racing amongst other horses and may be better suited with the addition of blinkers and when able to lead and dictate terms.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 4:  Australian Bloodstock Conditional Benchmark 70 Handicap 1400m

Call Me Mo – Slow to begin.  Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

Yuralla Boy – Slow to begin.  App. T Sherry (Holy Reign) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that passing the 1100m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Call Me Mo, which lost its rightful running, had to be checked and was carried inwards, resulting in Yuralla Boy being steadied when crowded.  App. Sherry’s permit to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Wednesday, 8 July 2020 and to expire on Thursday, 16 July 2020, on which day he may ride.

Ondo Pasa – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Holy Reign – When questioned regarding his riding after the 800m, App. T Sherry stated at this point of the race he was trailing Great Danger and racing to the outside of Strawb.  He said that after the 800m he observed Strawb commencing to shift off the fence.  He added that he positioned his mount as close to the heels of Great Danger as he could in an attempt to hold Strawb in, however, when his mount was bumped by Strawb on a number of occasions, his mount was carried to a three wide position.  App. Sherry further stated that, after being carried three wide, he then rode his mount along to position it to the outside of Great Danger to ensure that Strawb could not carry his mount any wider and as a consequence his mount raced wide and without cover for the remainder of the event.

Great Danger – A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 5:  New Zealand Bloodstock Maiden Plate 900m

Open War – as A Banks was indisposed due to illness, Stewards permitted K Latham to be substituted as the rider of the colt.  Began awkwardly.

Soho Peggy - Stable representative Mr M Rowland was told a warning would be placed on the filly, which was difficult to load.

My Rose My Kingdom - After being loaded into the barriers, the filly became fractious and reared.  My Rose My Kingdom was examined by the Club's Veterinary Officer and deemed suitable to race.  Stable representative Mr M Ollerton was told a warning would be placed on the filly’s record.  Laid out rounding the home turn.

Horshack – Began awkwardly and bumped Porz.

Vista Oriental – Slow to begin.

Porz – On jumping was checked when crowded between Can’t Get Enough and Horshack, which shifted out.

Princess Sunlight – When questioned, rider J Ford could offer no explanation for the performance of the filly, which he said travelled comfortably, however, was a beaten horse shortly after straightening.   A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.  Trainer Mr G Ryan advised that Princess Sunlight would now leave his stable.

Can’t Get Enough – A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 6:  Reward Hospitality 3YO&Up Handicap 1200m

Kandos Tiger – Began awkwardly.  Pulled hard in the early and middle stages.

RACE 7:  Red Funnel Benchmark 64 Handicap 1880m

All Things – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Seporto – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Kimpembe – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.  Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the race.  When questioned regarding her riding from the 600m, App. C Waddell stated that from the 600m she trailed Fields Of Yulong and rounding the home turn, when Space Is Deep improved to her outside, she directed her mount to the inside of Fields Of Yulong in search of clear running, as she felt that if she shifted out she would cause interference to Space Is Deep.  She added that her mount was then held up until near the 300m, then was again briefly held up the 200m, before closing its race off fairly.  After viewing the patrol films, App. Waddell agreed with Stewards that the better option would have been to shift her mount to the outside of Fields Of Yulong on straightening, which would have afforded her mount clear and uninterrupted running to the finish.

Momack - overraced in the early stages when being restrained to obtain cover.

Holy Empress – For some distance approaching the 700m lost ground when held up on the heels of the weakening Chivadahlii.  When questioned regarding the performance, rider B Cray stated that in his opinion his mount performs best when making its run outside runners and was unsuited today when it was obliged to make its run through the field.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Dream Maiden – Near the 300m was directed to the outside of Holy Empress to continue into clear running.

Chivadahlii – A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which was beaten 69 lengths, did not reveal any abnormalities.  Trainer Mr A Kehoe advised that Chivadahlii will now be spelled during which time consideration will be given to the gelding’s racing future.  Mr Kehoe was told that Chivadahlii would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again.

RACE 8:  Yarraman Park Class 1 Handicap 1500m

Sorrentina – The filly lost its off-hind plate in the tie-up stalls and when it was unable to be replated it was permitted to race bare behind.  Sorrentina was examined by the Club's Veterinary Officer on arrival at the barriers and was deemed suitable to race.  Slow to begin.

Recondite – Began awkwardly.

Louder – Began awkwardly.

Sarah Elizabeth – On jumping was checked when crowded between Rules Don’t Apply and Recondite, which both shifted ground.

What A Girl – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.  Near the 250m was bumped on two occasions by Kimmylee.

Kimmylee – Overraced in the early stages when being restrained to obtain cover trailing Louder, then continued to overrace throughout the middle stages.  Held rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight.

Mantelli – Rounding the first turn commenced to overrace and for some distance near the 900m had to be checked away from the heels of Vienna Rain.  Mantelli then continued to overrace throughout the middle stages.  Held up in the early part of the home straight.

Vienna Rain – Did not obtain clear running at any stage in the race and went to the line without being fully tested.

Rules Don’t Apply – When questioned regarding the performance, rider L Magorrian stated that when Mantelli commenced to overrace rounding the first turn it bumped his mount on a number of occasions.  He said when the bumping continued for some distance he shifted his mount three wide near the 700m and as a consequence raced wide and without cover for the remainder of the event.  L Magorrian added that his mount failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure rounding the home turn and in his opinion it did not appreciate the continual bumping in the early stages.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
