2019 Newcastle Cup: Tips And Race Preview
Kris Lees looks a big chance to win his first home town Cup off the Tips and Race Preview for the 2019 Newcastle Cup at Newcastle on Friday. Our Candidate is low flying and he is at $2.90.
Hush Writer and Vaucluse Bay will run them along at a solid tempo. Not a bad Newcastle Cup but OUR CANDIDATE (16) could turn out to be pretty special by the end of this prep and progress from Benchmark company to take this out. Has won at his last two runs, both over 2400m in town, with consummate ease. Tougher test today but drops 4.5kgs. His ratings are skyrocketing at each outing - he is good enough to take this next step.
OUR CENTURY (2) settled back in the field and didn't fire a shot in the Wyong Cup over 2100m when resuming last time out. Goes well second up and the extra furlong on a big track is a far more appealing scenario. Expect big improvement.
HUSH WRITER (8) was in the firing line all the way in a brutally run Wyong Cup but battled on bravely to hold 2nd. Big lightweight chance. BIG DUKE (3) is a class runner but has been set a big task first up. Each-way chance on class alone.
2019 NEWCASTLE CUP – SELECTIONS
1st – 16 Our Candidate
2nd – 2 Our Century
3rd – 8 Hush Writer
4th – 3 Big Duke
2019 Cameron Handicap: Tips And Race Preview
Tips and Race Preview for the 2019 Cameron Handicap settle on an up and comer. Rock was great for Team Hawkes last time and is at $6.50
Oakfield Twilight will lead the Cameron field at a good clip. ROCK (14) is living up to his reputation this prep, with two wins from two runs at the Sydney midweekers. This is his biggest test but with further improvement expected at just his third run back he can continue the resurgence.
CON TE PARTIRO (5) ran a cracking 4th against quality opposition in the G3 Show County over 1200m at Randwick when resuming from a spell recently. Talented mare from the USA who has acclimatised well and looks to be in for a big Spring.
WREN'S DAY (6) started favourite but after a torrid run could only finish 6th when resuming over this trip at the Kensington track last time out. French import who is a winning chance with blinkers on out of a more favourable gate this time.
KOLDING (2) was the unlucky runner in the Tramway over this distance at Randwick 13 days ago. Will surge to the head of Epsom markets if he takes this out.
2019 CAMERON HANDICAP – SELECTIONS
1st – 14 Rock
2nd – 5 Con Te Partiro
3rd – 6 Wren's Day
4th – 2 Kolding
2019 Tibbie Stakes: Tips And Race Preview
The class runner heads the Tips and Race Preview for the 2019 Tibbie Stakes, Pohutukawa will be so tough to beat in this company and she is the $3.20 elect.
Dance Hall Girl will spear over from a wide gate and set a solid clip in the Tibbie. POHUTUKAWA (2) last appeared when beaten a whisker in the G1 Tiara over 1400m at Eagle Farm in June. Has a very good fresh record and has been in the money 5/8 in black-type races, including two wins. Classy mare who can get away with this with an ounce of luck from a tricky gate.
SWEET DEAL (5) was lining up for the hat-trick and looked home only to be nailed by a couple of swoopers on the line over 1500m at Rosehill last start. Genuine mare with an outstanding strike rate over today's trip. Will ensure backers get a run for their money.
CONNEMARA (10) continued her exceptional form this prep with a fast-finishing 3rd in the Mona Lisa over 1350m at Wyong recently. Will be charging home again today, with the longer straight definitely in her favour. ORGANZA (7) missed a place for the first time in ages in the Mona Lisa. Strips fitter this time and will be thereabouts.
2019 TIBBIE STAKES – SELECTIONS
1st – 2 Pohutukawa
2nd – 5 Sweet Deal
3rd – 10 Connemara
4th – 7 Organza
