Maher-Eustace day only gets better in the Razor Sharp

A good day for the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace stable only got better when Recommendation scored a narrow victory in the $200,000, Listed, Racing And Sports Razor Sharp Handicap (1200m) at Randwick in Sydney.

Responsible for the $500,000 Inglis Nursery winner Odinson earlier on the program as well as the Magic Millions Ballarat 3yo & 4yo Classic winner Baroque Road at Ballarat, Maher and Eustace were rewarded for their decision to take on Insurrection once again with Recommendation after finishing third behind the out-and-out sprinter in The Warra (1000m) at Kembla Grange in November.

Stepped up to 1200 metres and in receipt of 2.5kg of the aforementioned rival, Recommendation turned the tables in a cliffhanger of a finish to a highly competitive sprint.

Ridden to victory by Regan Baylis, Recommedation (by Shalaa (Ire)) scored by a whisker from Insurrection (by Snitzel) in second, with Waihaha Falls (NZ) (by Sacred Falls) flying home for third.

Contested by 11 runners, the first four horses home finished within a length of each other, and the first seven within two lengths, while all but one of the beaten division crossed the line within three lengths of the narrow winner Recommedation.

Recommedation took his record to six wins and four placings from just 12 starts. His earnings now amount to $507,930.

Winning time was recorded as 1m10.14s, with the final 600m being registered as 34.74s.

Official margins were a Short Half-Head by Short Neck.

SPs on the sprint feature of the day at Randwick were Recommendation $5.00, Insurrection $4.40, and Waihaha Falls (NZ) $8.00.
