Kranji's Saturday meeting preview

Meeting Preview, selections, comments and odds, courtesy Larry Foley,

A tough meeting on paper so it may pay to pick and choose some smart bets on the day with the tote a good guide to stable confidence.

Case in point is the maiden WHO LOVES BAE is race 4.

The former Australian found one better at his Singapore debut but faces a very ordinary field on Saturday, so you would imagine he wins comfortably and it may only be his starting price that is an obstacle for punters.

It’s no surprise that M Hakim rides WHO LOVES BAE and the leading apprentice also has a big winning show on the Mark Walker-trained MUSTENGO in race 7.

The last start winner looks well placed in the same Company with only 50.5kg to carry and the Poly holds no fears, as does the 1800m journey, with gate 1 a bonus.

But while Hakim continues to get the good rides, Vlad Duric looks to have a very good book and he should have a big day.

The multiple Champion jockey could knock in a few winners early with CAVALLA COURT, REAL EFECTO and HEAVENLY DANCER big chances in races 1, 2 and 3 respectively, while SPORTSCASTER, LUCK OF MASTER and BEAR WITNESS all look each-way hopes in races 6, 7 and 8.

If he has had a big day, RISE OF EMPIRE is some hope if right in the last and whatever the result, it’s good to have Vlad Duric back at Kranji.

Best Bets: (WHO LOVES BAE race 4, win), (MUSTENGO race 7, win), and (SENOR DON race 9, value).

Bankers for Jackpots: Race 7 (1, 3, 4 and 6), race 8 (2 and 4), race 9 (4, 5, 6, 9, 10 and 12), race 10 (1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 9).

Race 1

A tricky opener, made even trickier given some of the fancies have little Poly form to go on. Case in point is CAVALLA COURT who just missed last start on the turf but with Duric retaining the ride, he is hardest to beat. PASIR PINJI also has little Poly form to go on but is in form and gets the services of Hakim, which is always a bonus. A maiden in MIGHTY VAIN does handle the Poly and looks ready to win and showed last start that Class 5 is what he needs to break through. Add RUNMINDERBINDERRUN, ZOFFSPEED and the first emergency, BLITZ POWER, as winning hopes but it does look a raffle. Betting Strategy - CAVALLA COURT win.

1 CAVALLA COURT *** Seen rarely on the Poly but just missed last start this trip and Duric stays on. Hard to beat. 3.00

2 MIGHTY VAIN *** Long-term maiden status a concern but right in the finish at his first start in Class 5 and handles the Poly so can win. 4.00

3 PASIR PINJI *** Another with little Poly form to go on but has found form on the turf and Hakim can't hurt. 10

4 SHANGANI ** Resuming after some poor form but win race slick this on his day so market best guide sans winkers. 20

5 AUSPICIOUS DAY * Form reads badly but did it tough enough last start to think could improve on solid trial prior. 33

6 FOOTSTEPSONTHECAR * Will appreciate first run in Class 5 but needs to improve. 50

7 GRAVEL ROAD * Battled at two runs since winning on the Poly and wide gate doesn't help. 33

8 ALMALEK ** Excuses not to finish closer last start and may appreciate the mile with gate 3 a factor. 20

9 RAGING BRAVE ** Maiden freshened with some quiet trials. Exotics. 33

10 RESOLUTE ** Late Top of the Line. Nothing last start but race could suit and gate 1 helps. 20

11 RUNMINDERBINDERRUN *** Not often seen on the Poly but in solid form and recent trial good enough to consider. 7.00

12 ZOFFSPEED *** Respiratory issues last start, has subsequently trialled well and won start prior. Goes close. 5.00

13 BLITZ POWER *** Rider suggested issues last start and due prior so keep safe. 12

14 SPIRIT SEVEN * Resuming sans blinkers and may need the run. 33

Race 2

A race in three on paper and maybe even two given REAL EFECTO and ACE SOVEREIGN look set to win in a race that suits. It's hard to separate the pair but REAL EFECTO has his foot on the till, gets Duric and given he can make his own luck by leading, he is the one to beat. But ACE SOVEREIGN will find this a lot easier than the Golden Horseshoe and his effort when running on in Novice Company last start suggests he is a handy type that will win races and John Powell looks a good booking, The third wheel is MARINE VANGUARD who just missed last start and looks a horse to follow on the Poly with the mile ideal. Nothing else appeals but SUNDAY and SUPER ATAS could be included in exotics. Betting Strategy - REAL EFECTO win.

1 REAL EFECTO *** Due, recent trial good and very hard to beat over the mile with Duric up. 2.60

2 DIMESSO * Excuses last start and some in hand but query on the Poly so market best guide. 20

3 ACE SOVEREIGN *** Worked home well last start over 1200m in Novice Company after a crack at Group 2YO level. Can in over the mile back in Maiden Company. 2.60

4 MARINE VANGUARD *** Likes the poly, just missed last start and mile looks ideal. Goes close. 4.00

5 CITY HALL * OK late in Class 5 Company and blinkers off but place looks best. 20

6 SUNDAY ** Form only fair but recent trial good enough to think improves with gate 1 a bonus. 20

7 MARCUS ANTONIUS * Not a mile away two back this trip and track but winkers off and Buezelin helps. 20

8 BRIGHT FUTURE * Hard to have. 100

9 SUPER ATAS ** Improved effort last start and mile suits so can include in exotics. 20

10 OUD WOOD * No. 100

Race 3

Nothing jumps off the page in this Class 4, which could give RADIANT SUCCESS a chance to break through at his third start in Singapore. The former Australian arrived with a moderate record but his local trials and two runs in Singapore have been good and he will be there when the whips are cracking late. The danger is Vlad Duric on HEAVENLY DANCER. The 4YO was never involved last start with a junior hoop on but the switch to Duric in a race that suits has him hard to beat with support likely. Of the rest that can win, ROMANTIC has drawn wide but just missed last start and will keep them honest, while last start maiden winner, PROSPEROUS RETURN, is worth following with one eye on the market. Most others can be included in exotics but a win would surprise. Betting Strategy - forecast HEAVENLY DANCER and RADIANT SUCCESS.

1 QARAAT ** Form reads badly and better on turf but drops significantly in grade so watch market with tongue-tie off. 33

2 HEAVENLY DANCER *** Never really involved last start but some in hand so can win this with Duric a factor. 3.00

3 RADIANT SUCCESS *** Gave winner a start but kept him more than honest late last start and hard to hold out over 1200m. 4.00

4 VULCAN ** Nothing last start but dead-heated in similar affair start prior so keep safe. 20

5 KIMITONARA ** Freshened after showing little when resuming at his first start on the Poly. Market only guide. 20

6 SACRED JUDGEMENT ** Yet to win in Singapore and having first start on the Poly but trials suggests he handles the surface so worth thought. 12

7 KING'S COMMAND ** Can't discount completely but having first start on the Poly and should need longer to show his best. 12

8 CHARGER ** Finding it hard to win and drawn wide but Class 4 on the Poly suits so keep safe at odds. 12

9 ROMANTIC *** Drawn wide but just missed last start over 1100m and can figure. 10

10 ASGARD MASSIF ** Did it tough last start and effort to wire was promising and visor won't hurt. 12

11 PROSPEROUS RETURN *** Fought hard to break maiden status at start two and will be more than competitive in Class 4. 10

12 TERRIFIC ** Freshened after placing over the mile but has handled the Poly this trip previously so worth thought at odds. 20

13 HOTSHOTS SLAM ** Resuming. Appreciates the Poly and can consider on Class 5 win two back and trial form. 20

14 DESPACITO * No. 100

Race 4

Not many races weaker than this and expect WHO LOVES BAE to start very short in the betting and it may be a case of how far. The 4YO arrived in Singapore with a solid record of two placings from four career starts and only found one better with support on debut on the back of some good trials. Hakim won't hurt his chances and he just wins. ROCKET RAYNE, WISHUPONASTAR, MORE THAN OIL and BARBARIAN in any combination for exotics. Betting Strategy - WHO LOVES BAE strong win or forecast with ROCKET RAYNE.

1 WHO LOVES BAE *** Drawn wide but showed more than enough on the back of some good trails at his Singapore debut to win this. 1.40

2 ROCKET RYANE ** A long way from the good winner last start but likes the Poly so pay to follow in races like this with winkers and tongue-tie off. 6.00

3 WEDNESDAY * Winkers and tongue-tie off but hard to have. 50

4 CRYSTAL STAR * Blinkers off and trials OK but battles at the races. 33

5 BLACK TAIPAN * Another that trials OK but battles at the races so easier to ignore. 33

6 MIRACLE FAST * Resuming and no. 100

7 WISHUPONASTAR ** Only battled at his last couple but form prior better than most of these so worth thought. 20

8 GALLANT BLACK * Tongue-tie off but hard to have. 100

9 MORE THAN OIL ** Has pace and this field weak enough to have a say. 8.00

10 BARBARIAN ** Honest as a rule and can include in exotics in this field. 12

11 ACCUMULATION * OK last start but still needs to show more. 33

12 SMASH * Battled since good run four back and easier to ignore. 50

13 ASSASSIN * Nuisance value only. 50

Race 5

We love a Class dropper and ALWAYS INNOCENT certainly ticks that box and he can turn around some terrible form and win. Why? Firstly, the 5YO has had  only two career runs in Class 5 (both over this trip) and has won them both comfortably and given he also gets a gear change and a senior hoop, he could be hard to beat with gate 2 a bonus. But the maiden SHOWBOUND also "drops" in grade as he is having his first run in Class 5 and that often sees improvement; throw Duric into the equation and gate 3 and he can win. MIRACLE and PLANTER both can win but have wide gates to overcome which could be costly, while PAPERBACK TROOPER has no such worries after drawing the ace and he can figure with Dan Beasley up. Betting Strategy - ALWAYS INNOCENT win.

1 ALWAYS INNOCENT *** Ignore recent poor form as drops in Class, gets blinkers and can win on the back of a solid trial. 6.00

2 MIRACLE *** Wide gate a concern again but had some in hand when working home last start and expect much the same. 5.00

3 PLANTER *** Another fancy drawn wide but grew wings late last start this trip and can win. 5.00

4 SHOWBOUND *** Maiden who looks due, Class 5 on Poly suits and can win with Duric a factor. 5.00

5 HERO STAR ** Tough to follow but won two back and not a mile away last start so keep safe. 12

6 GOLD RUSH * Appreciates first-up run but needs to show more. 33

7 PAPERBACK TROOPER *** Nothing last start but in the mix as a rule in races like this and worth thought from gate 1. 12

8 KING MIDAS ** No luck at the gates but did it tough last start when just missing to has to be respected. 12

9 UNCLE LUCKY ** Disappointing last start but gets blinkers added so worth one more look. 15

10 MY HORSE ** Gate hurts but backed up a solid trial with a good run so keep safe. 12

11 NINETYSIX WARRIOR * Can go forward but nuisance value only. 20

12 LUCKY RED ** Returned a roarer last start when first up so take on trust with blinkers off. 20

13 LAI MAK MAK ** Battled last start but will win in Class 5 although may need a tad longer. 20

14 HIDDEN PROMISE ** May need longer but excuses last start (reared) and worth thought sans tongue-tie. 20

Race 6

Again, trainer Mark Walker holds the key to this Class 5 race and both RED RIDING WOOD and SPORTSCASTER can win. You can make a strong case for both and it may pay to have a longer look on the day but SPORTSCASTER, while drawn badly in 12, comes off a good trial, gets Duric and could be hard to pass with a forward run expected. RED RIDING WOOD didn't trial as well on Tuesday but gets an upgrade to blinkers, gate 2 helps and a 3kg Hakim claim is a factor; take your pick. Another trainer who always has to be respected in Poly miles is Mr Takaoka and his two runners - ANGEL HALO and POROSHIRI - could easily show up in what is a suitable race. Add HOSAYLIO into the winning mix and it will probably pay to go wider again in exotics. Betting Strategy - SPORTSCASTER win.

1 PERFORMANTE ** Nothing last start and query the trip but usually runs on and pay to keep safe sans blinkers. 10

2 HARVEST TIME * Worked home OK last start but wide gate makes this tough. 20

3 RED RIDING WOOD *** Excuses not to finish closer last start and gets blinkers and gate 2 helps. Can win. 4.00

4 SPORTSCASTER *** Gate a concern but can go forward and give a sight on the back of a good trial. 4.00

5 FLYING YELLOW ** Resuming and while form looks poor, won first up - albeit over 1200m - in July last year so keep safe. 20

6 ANGEL HALO *** Some in hand last start, race suits and was due so goes close. 6.00

7 POROSHIRI *** Does a lot wrong in races but has more ability than most here so could surprise. 10

8 HOSAYLIAO *** Will enjoy being back on the Poly and is ready to win in a race that suits. 5.00

9 QILIN TOP FORM ** Hard to have on recent form but gets blinkers, gate 3 helps and worth a market watch. 20

10 IRON FIST * Battling and better on the turf. 33

11 VICTORY JOY * Lost form. 33

12 OCEAN ELEVEN * Gets blinkers back but no. 100

13 NINETEEN GLORY * Maiden impossible on form but gets blinkers so watch market. 33

14 STORM TO WIN *** Query on the Poly but would give this a shake on best form. 12

Race 7

As is often the case with both numbers and horses in form, Mark Walker holds the key to this Class 4 Poly event over 1800m with both AXEL and MUSTENGO winning chances. And once again it may the jockey booking that gives us the best guide with Hakim retaining the ride on MUSTENGO a big factor. The leading hoop also gets to jump from gate 1 and given MUSTENGO is both in winning form and more than handles this trip and track, he is hard to beat. AXEL was supported last start and while Seow has yet to win a race, she is due and gets her chance from gate 2. Of the senior hoops, Duric on LUCK OF MASTER appeals as this race does look suitable and SHEPHERD'S HYMN is also due and gets Beuzelin. Most others have to improve to win but EAGLE EYE is better than what he showed last start in this Company and will be value. Betting Strategy - MUSTENGO win.

1 AXEL *** Had support and in the mix when dropping to this Company last Saturday and pay to follow on the quick back up. 5.00

2 EAGLE EYE ** Did it tough last start and rider dropped rein so can forgive but wide gate may test again. 20

3 LUCK OF MASTER *** Has been running on well, race suits and can win with Duric a factor. 5.00

4 SHEPHERD'S HYMN *** Trip queried two back but in the mix over the mile last start and will look the winner at some stage. 6.00

5 STAR JACK * Blinkers to winkers but query on the Poly and lost form so happy to ignore. 33

6 MUSTENGO *** In form, trip and track no worries and can win from gate 1 with Hakim a factor. 3.00

7 MY BOSS ** Query the trip but ran on well last start and enjoys the Poly so keep safe. 12

8 MY EVEREST * Battled at his last two and may need easier. 33

9 ARION PASSION * Backing up after poor showing and tested this trip. 33

10 DON DE LA VEGA ** Looked to have some in hand last start so could surprise with no weight. 20

11 GOLD KINGDOM ** Looked to have some in hand last start when supported, 1800m no problem and worth thought. 12

12 NINETEEN GALE * Reassess in Class 5. 33

13 BOY NEXT DOOR * Lost form. 100

Race 8

While Class 5 races can throw up a surprise or two, we can hopefully narrow the winning hopes down to BEAR WITNESS and STRONG N BEST. Nothing much separates the pair but STRONG N BEST will find this easier than Maiden Company, has always trialled like the Poly is no problem and from gate 5, he will get every chance. BEAR WITNESS is rarely seen on the Poly but like STRONG N BEST, his trial form suggests he more than handles the surface and a positive ride from Vlad Duric should overcome the bad gate. Blanket over numbers 1, 3, 5, 6, 8 and 11 for exotics and include the emergencies if they get a start. Betting Strategy - forecast BEAR WITNESS and STRONG N BEST.

1 COMING FAST ** Impossible on recent form but significant drop in Class so watch market. 33

2 BEAR WITNESS *** Rarely seen on the Poly but always trials like he handles the surface and can win with positive ride from the wide alley. 3.00

3 SATURDAY ** Tough to follow but in the mix last start, handles the Poly and gate 1 helps. 12

4 STRONG N BEST *** Maiden who just missed last start over 1400m on turf but trials well and can win on the Poly in Class 5. 3.00

5 RED CLAW ** Battled at the business end at his last couple and wide draw makes this tough. 9.00

6 SAYONARA ** Poly has been a concern but gets blinkers and could run a forward race from gate 2. 10

7 FIGHT TO VICTORY * Has been found wanting of late and nuisance value only in this field. 33

8 CIZEN LUCKY ** Has been running on well late without a result. Worth thought at odds. 20

9 FOREVER GOOD * Wait for the turf. 33

10 MOON CHARM * Improved effort last start but another better on the turf. 33

11 WINNING HAMMER ** Found some honest form and a must for exotics with gate 3 a bonus. 8.00

12 TAVITO * Battling. 33

13 LIM'S PRIDE ** Made need longer to win but had some in hand last start and pay to keep safe. 20

14 BROADWAY SUCCESS ** Recent Poly form solid and worth a look in exotics. 12

Race 9

A wide-open Class 2 Poly mile and while SENOR DON was slightly disappointing last start, he can show his best Poly form here and win with no weight. The Argentinean was beaten fair and square three starts back by SUPER DYNASTY in the Colonial Chief but a 3kg swing in the weights suggests he can make amends. Obviously SUPER DYNASTY very much enjoys this trip and track and is right in this with only 55kg and SINCERELY wasn't far away in third so he too must be considered. Of the others, TIME LORD is in winning form and gate 1 helps his cause, while ON LINE is honest and showed two back he handles the Poly so keep safe with no weight. One more to watch is SILENT PARTNER who gets Hakim on the back of a very well-held trial and while up in Class, his form is good and may be value. Betting Strategy - SENOR DON each-way.

1 SACRED CROIX ** Hard to fault winning form and drawn to advantage but query the surface so market best guide. 10

2 PREDITOR ** Tough to follow and rarely seen on the Poly but last run on the surface at Group level was good so worth thought. 20

3 PENNYWISE ** Returned to form last start over 1200m and has trialled well since. Longtime between wins but trip should suit. 8.00

4 SUPER DYNASTY *** Ran on well last start on turf and won the Colonial Chief this trip and track three starts back with only 1kg less. Hard to beat. 4.00

5 TIME LORD *** Ran on super late to just get up at odds this trip last start in Class 3. Can seriously consider from gate 1. 6.00

6 SINCERELY *** Just fair last start with heavy support last start but not far away in the Colonial Chief and goes close here. 8.00

7 TRUMPY ** Might need longer again but the Poly mile may suit on breeding so keep safe. 20

8 VITTORIA PERFETTA ** Never a threat last start but won start prior (both in Class 3) and always some show. 12

9 SENOR DON *** Did the work on pace before being swamped last start this trip in Class 3. Can win with softer run and no weight. 6.00

10 SILENT PARTNER *** Tested this Company but in form and well held at recent trial so pay to keep very safe. 12

11 BUDDY BUDDY * Wait for the turf. 50

12 ON LINE *** In form, showed two back that he handles the Poly and should figure with no weight. 12

Race 10

While he will find this tougher than the meek opposition he met at his Singapore debut, SUN TREK looks a handy enough type to follow through the grades and should figure heavily in this finish. The 4YO arrived as a maiden but his placed form from Moonee Valley (Australia) was good and his first-up win in Singapore on the back of some nice trials suggests he can win again with the in-form S Noh to ride. Hakim (who rode Sun Trek last start) jumps on MR HOOPER who could be the biggest danger back on the Poly and he certainly showed last start why he wins in Class 4 sooner than later. Of the rest, JUST LANDED is in fine form and looks due but will need luck from a wide alley, while both BUURAQ and STUNNING CAT are both resuming but will win races like this on best form. RISE ON EMPIRE has had issues of late but goes close if right with Duric up. Betting Strategy - SUN TREK win.

1 MR HOOPER *** Showed last start why he wins in Class 4 sooner than later and Poly helps. Can win. 4.60

2 STUNNING CAT *** Resuming after bleeding attack. Always some hope in races like this. 12

3 BUURAQ *** Resuming. Goes well fresh and trials like a winner. Respect. 8.00

4 RISE OF EMPIRE *** Had his issues of late (respiratory) but can win if right on best form. 8.00

5 DIAMOND BEAUTY ** Not often seen on the Poly but had some in hand last start so worth a look at odds. 50

6 SUN TREK *** Won easily at Singapore debut and while he didn't beat much, he showed enough to follow this Company. 4.00

7 STREET CRY SUCCESS ** Query on the poly but has been working home well enough to consider from gate 1. 20

8 CHALAZA ** Freshened, always a show on the Poly and blinker/pacifiers help. Keep safe. 20

9 JUST LANDED *** Drawn wide and like to see over longer but just missed at last two starts this trip so can win. 12

10 CROWN GIFT * Issues two back and nothing last start so can ignore. 33

11 LADY SPRINTBOK ** Did it tough last start so effort was better than the result and should be competitive. 12

12 UNCONQUERED ** Another whose last run was better than the result and gate 4 helps. Value. 20

13 STAR EMPIRE ** Gate a concern but work late last start good enough to think something to offer with blinkers back on. 20

14 MIEJ ** Having first start on the poly but always looks some hope so worth thought if he gets a start. 12
