Kaboo completes hat-trick in Fast-Track Qualifier at Kempton Park

Kaboo dominated his six rivals in the Unibet 3 Uniboosts A Day Conditions Stakes at Kempton Park on Monday to secure his place in the £150,000 Coral All-Weather Three-Year-Old Championships.

Sent off the 4/6 favourite in the six-furlong Fast-Track Qualifier, Kaboo broke well under Clifford Lee and soon occupied the rail in a share of the lead with Resilience on his outside.

The son of More Than Ready led turning out of the backstraight and lengthened impressively approaching the two-furlong marker to take three lengths out of the field. Adaay In Asia and Annaf emerged from the chasing pack, but the winner was clear and went on to score by two-and-three-quarter lengths.

Kaboo is now unbeaten in three starts on the All-Weather, with today’s success coming on the back of similarly impressive performances in novice races at Wolverhampton and Newcastle.

Trainer Karl Burke, who also has Wolverhampton winner El Caballo qualified for the final, said: “We knew Kaboo was a lovely horse coming here and I wasn’t worried by the step up to six furlongs.

“My immediate reaction after watching the replay a couple of times is that when we run him over six furlongs again, you’d probably wait another 100 yards before pressing the button. He seemed to take two or three lengths out of them going to the two and then stayed on.

“He has such a lovely stride and high cruising speed that you can’t pull him around. He is one of those you need to get in a nice rhythm with, wherever that is because he doesn’t have to lead. His stride and natural early speed take him there.

“I was quoted in the press a couple of days ago saying we would go straight to Finals Day after this, but he was having a right blow today and is a stuffy horse. Ideally, you would want another run between now and then but there isn’t a lot of options.

“There is a six-furlong race at Newcastle on February 23, but I have another horse [El Caballo] pencilled in for that and don’t want them taking each other on at this stage. I will have a chat with Nick [Bradley, syndicate manager] and we will go from there."
