Hot conditions forecast for Rosehill

Rosehill hosts the $160,000, Group 3 Fujitsu General Festival Stakes (1500m) with a field of 18 accepted on Wednesday as one of three feature black type races on Saturday.

Godolphin have accepted with three entries for the Festival Stakes.  Gaulois is the top-weight with 59kg under Nash Rawiller and barrier four, Ranier carries 58.5kg under Hugh Bowman and Phaistos 54.5kg under Brenton Avdulla with barrier two.

The Hawkes’ trained last start winner Outrageous has 54kg under Tommy Berry and barrier nine.

The five-year-old All Too Hard gelding was consistently campaigned at a high level earlier in his career with results that included a third in the 2018 Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes over 1400m at Randwick.

The win at Flemington over 1400m at Benchmark 90 level on the Melbourne Cup programme on the 3rd was his fourth from 28 starts. He was well placed by William Pike being third at the 400m and then running away with the race with 57kg to win by 1 3/4L.

Bjorn Baker has Irithea out to capture another black type event at Rosehill after her win in the Group 3 Dark Jewel over 1400m back in May. Josh Parr rides with 56.5kg and barrier six.

TAB have Phaistos and Outrageous as their joint Festival Stakes favourites at $6.00 with Ranier on the second line at $7.00.

The Festival Stakes is Race 7 at 5.00pm.

Race 6 at 4.20pm is the $140,000, listed ATC Cup (2000m) with a field of 11. The Waterhouse and Bott trained Wolfe (JPN) the top-weight with 58.5kg under Tim Clark and barrier five.

Race 8 at 5.40pm is the $140,000 listed Schweppes Starlight Stakes (1100m) with a field of 14. TAB have opened with Godolphin’s Varda as the $4.60 favourite. Kerrin McEvoy rides with 53kg and barrier eight.

The nine race meeting commences at 1.15pm with a field of 13 two-year-old’s in the $125,000, De Bortoli Wines Handicap (1100m). Overall there were 129 acceptances on Wednesday.

The Track is currently rates a Good 4 and the rail will be in the True position for the entire meeting.

The meeting will be held in hot conditions with Saturday’s forecast for temperatures to reach 39c. Thursday’s forecast is for a sunny day and 32c and Friday for a partly cloudy day and 27c.
