Caulfield’s $750,000, Group 1 WFA Underwood Stakes (1800m) received 21 nominations on Monday with the Group 2 Feeham Stakes winner Homesman (USA) the opening TAB All In market favourite at $3.50.
The Liam Howley trained six-year-old War Front gelding was a dominant 2 1/2L winner of the 1600m at The Valley on September 7th. He was racing for the first time since his narrow second to Best Solution (IRE) in last year’s Group 1 Caulfield Cup over 2400m at Caulfield.
On the next line at $6.00 is the shock Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes winner Gatting and Hartnell (GB). Gatting rocked punters at $101 in the Makybe Diva Stakes over 1600m at Flemington on September 14th while the consistent Hartnell was fourth in the race after being ninth at the 400m.
The Caulfield track is rated a Good 4 on Monday with the rail to be out 6m for the entire circuit.
Melbourne’s weather this week is for partly cloudy days with 15c and 16c on Tuesday and Wednesday, 20c and 22c on Thursday and Friday. Saturday’s forecast is for a partly cloudy day with 9c – 18c.
