The Hong Kong Jockey Club has advised that the meeting at Happy Valley tonight (Wednesday) has been cancelled.
On Tuesday the HKJC advised that in view of the latest situation and considering the safety of employees and customers, some Off-Course Betting Branches (OCBBs) will be closed for business temporarily on Wednesday. The Club said that it will closely monitor the situation and decide whether the closure of other OCBBs is required. Customers were advised to use other betting channels or visit our OCBBs in other districts.
The Club also issued a statement on Tuesday that it had come to the attention of the Hong Kong Jockey Club that there was a rumour circulating on online platforms on Tuesday evening that the Sha Tin Racecourse has been used as a Police base. The Club would like to clarify that this is untrue. The fact is some police vehicles accessed the racecourse road without notifying the Club. The Police has not entered the Shatin Communications and Technology Centre (SCTC) or other Club facilities.
Additional reporting - It is the second time in the past two months that a Happy Valley meeting has been cancelled after the meeting on September 18th was cancelled over safety concerns.
Hong Kong's ongoing protests have moved from each weekend this week onto week days with the scmp.com reporting that protesters were crippling transport links and setting up roadblocks to cause traffic disruptions in various districts for a third consecutive day.
