RACE 1:  Taperell Rutledge Solicitors 2YO Maiden Plate 1600m

Edgewise – Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards viewed the patrol films on behalf of the connections of Edgewise and Island Press to ascertain whether there were sufficient grounds to lodge a protest against Chitabe being declared the winner relative to an incident rounding the home turn.  After viewing the films and considering the eventual margin at the finish, Stewards declined to proceed with a protest and, therefore, declared correct weight.  Shifted in on jumping and made contact with Son Of Emperor.

Son Of Emperor – After beginning only fairly, shifted out and made heavy contact with Edgewise, then as a result shifted in and had to be eased from the heels of Chitabe, which shifted out.  Raced keenly in the early stages.

Crime Spree – Slow to begin and then from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Salem – Began awkwardly, resulting in its rider B Avdulla becoming momentarily unbalanced.

Island Press – From the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.  App. J Van Overmeire pleaded guilty to a charge under AR131(a) in that rounding the home turn when endeavouring to obtain clear running he shifted out when insufficiently clear of Edgewise, making contact with that runner and as a result was forced wider into the running line of Island Press, which had to be steadied and shifted wider when awkwardly placed close to the heels of Edgewise.  App. J Van Overmeire’s permit to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Monday, 2 August 2021 and to expire on Wednesday, 11 August 2021, on which day he may ride.

Caboteur – When questioned regarding the gelding leading, rider G Buckley explained that it was not his intention to lead, however, after beginning well and with no real intent being shown from other riders, he allowed Caboteur to press forward. He added, when approaching the 1400m and left racing without cover, the gelding commenced to race keenly and as a consequence he allowed his mount to improve to the lead.

RACE 2:  Indusytree Group Prov & Ctry Maiden Plate 1100m

Haven – On arrival at the barriers the mare was found to have blood in its mouth.  Haven subsequently underwent a veterinary examination and was deemed suitable to race . Began awkwardly.

Allthehills - Prior to the declaration of correct weight, after being advised by the official starter that the gelding may have lunged forward simultaneously as the start was effected, Stewards viewed the patrol films to ascertain whether Allthehills had obtained an unfair advantage.  After viewing the films, it was revealed that Allthehills had anticipated the start and as a consequence had marginally opened its barrier prior to the start being effected. As Stewards were satisfied Allthehills had not obtained an unfair advantage correct weight was declared.  Began awkwardly.

A Land Of – Bumped heavily at the start by Mancconi, which began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be displaying cardiac arrhythmia.  Trainer Mr B Ryan was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required to be furnished, including the results of an ECG, prior to the filly barrier trialling to the satisfaction of the Stewards, before being permitted to race again.

Tocomah – Shifted out abruptly shortly after the start.  Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

Lady Samurai – Rider L Magorrian reported that soon after the start the filly did not feel comfortable in its action and, therefore, he elected not to pressure Lady Samurai and eased the filly out of the event soon after. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be 3/5 lame in the near-hind leg.  Trainer Mr J Englebrecht was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the filly barrier trialling to the satisfaction of Stewards, before being permitted to race again.

Kayden’s Joy – When questioned regarding his riding, App. J Van Overmeire stated that he was instructed to obtain a position with cover today, bearing in mind the filly’s racing manners at its only race start.  He added, after beginning well and attempting to obtain a prominent position, Kayden’s Joy was unable to maintain a forward position due to the solid tempo set through the middle stages and as a consequence settled further back than he anticipated.  He stated when rounding the home turn, rather than attempt to shift wider, he elected to remain racing close to the fence. He said approaching the 200m he became momentarily held up behind Mancconi, and when that runner shifted in, a run opened briefly between Mancconi and Arimathea, however, due to the racing manners of Mancconi, he elected to shift to the inside of that runner near the 100m, whereby he was afforded clear running and the filly finished the race off strongly.  App. Van Overmeire further added that Kayden’s Joy will take benefit from today’s run and may appreciate settling in a more forward position if possible in future

RACE 3:  Central Coast Granite 3YO Maiden Handicap 1000m

Red Hot – After beginning awkwardly, was shifted behind runners from a wide barrier in the early stages.

Bonython – From the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Sabino – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

Mentalism – In the home straight, near the 150m commenced to lay in, resulting in its rider having to stop and straighten.

Roam Free- Approaching the 600m commenced to race keenly and, after receiving a bump from Symo’s Girl, continued to race keenly and had to be steadied from the heels of Dreamline, which shifted in slightly.

Symo’s Girl – Approaching the 600m had to be steadied when placed in restricted room between Roam Free and Mentalism, which was taken in by Sabino (J Innes Jr), which shifted in when not quite clear.  J Innes Jr was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

Warmth – Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight.

Bailieston – A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 4:  Pluim Group Class 1 Handicap 1000m

Skye Banner – Commenced to race keenly passing the 800m and near the 600m had to be steadied from the heels of Mystic Gem.  Skye Banner continued to race keenly for a short distance thereafter.  When questioned regarding her riding rounding the home turn and as to whether there was an opportunity to apply pressure to her mount earlier than she did, App. E Hennessy explained that her mount had raced keenly leading up to the home turn and, when she had observed Mystic Gem become momentarily held up behind Rubinocchi, she anticipated Mystic Gem shifting back to the inside of Rubinocchi, which would have placed her in an awkward position and, therefore, she elected not to place Skye Banner under pressure at that point. She added when Mystic Gem obtained a run to the outside of Rubinocchi in the early stages of the home straight, she was afforded clear running and was able to apply full pressure, whereby the gelding finished the race off well.  As the Stewards were satisfied that App. Hennessy’s were not unreasonable in the circumstances, no further action was taken.  Nonetheless App. Hennessy was reminder of her obligation to apply pressure to her mounts whenever a run has opened and when safe to do so.

Conglomerate – Raced keenly in the early stages.  Rounding the home turn was bumped on the hindquarter by Giftgiver, which was taken out.

Angiolini – Near the 600m had to be eased from the heels of Conglomerate (S Clipperton), which shifted in when not quite clear.  S Clipperton was told to exercise more care.

Mystic Gem – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, B Avdulla stated that the gelding travelled well in the early and middle stages, however, made the home turn awkwardly and, after making contact with Giftgiver failed to respond to his riding thereafter and as a consequence over the concluding stages commenced to shift ground, which resulted in him being unable to fully test Mystic Gem over the latter stages with his usual vigour.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be slow to recover.

Giftgiver – B Avdulla, rider of Mystic Gem, was found guilty of a charge under AR131(a) in that when rounding the home turn he permitted his mount to shift out and made contact with Giftgiver, which in turn shifted out and made contact with Conglomerate.  As a consequence Giftgiver lost its rightful running.  B Avdulla’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Thursday, 29 July 2021 and to expire on Monday, 2 August 2021, on which day he may ride. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have lost its near-hind plate.

Queen Himiko – Began awkwardly.  From the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Silver Thorn – Slow to begin.

Emporer Harada – Began awkwardly.

Skyray – Began only fairly and then from the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Ruthless Agent – Crowded for room on jumping between Phoenix Global and Thinking Cap, which shifted in.

Happy Candy – Began awkwardly.  Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.  Approaching the 100m had to be steadied when awkwardly placed to the inside of the heels of Windsweep (S Clipperton), which shifted in when not clear. S Clipperton was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

Isalute – B Avdulla, rider of Bojack, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR131(a) in that near the 100m he permitted his mount to shifted out when insufficiently clear of Isalute, which had to be checked. B Avdulla’s licence to ride in races was suspended to commence on Thursday, 29 July 2021 and to expire on Friday, 6 August 2021, on which day he may ride.  Acting under the provisions of AR283(4)), Stewards ordered that this suspension is to be served concurrently with the suspension that occurred in race 4.

Sammy – When questioned regarding his riding from the 400m and as to whether there was an opportunity to improve his position to the outside of the eventual winner, Windsweep, rider H Bowman explained that, after passing the 400m, when he observed Windsweep maintaining a position one off the fence, he attempted to improve to the outside of that runner, however, when Windsweep (S Clipperton) shifted out when not quite clear, he was obliged to ease his mount and shift back to the inside at this point. S Clipperton was advised to exercise more care.  H Bowman further stated that in the home straight he became briefly held up on the heels of Phoenix Global, before shifting out near the 100m to obtain completely clear running, whereby the gelding finished the race off well.

RACE 7:  Sneddon Bros Class 1 Handicap 1600m

ChateauxPark – After beginning only fairly, was then hampered after being bumped by Enjolras, which shifted out.  As a consequence Chateaux Park was then shifted behind runners from a wide barrier. Rounding the home turn improved onto the heels of the weakening Significant Rule and had to be checked.

Significant Rule – Began awkwardly.  A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which was beaten 29 lengths, revealed it to be displaying cardiac arrhythmia. Stable representative Mr N Paine was advised a veterinary clearance would be required to be furnished, including the results of an ECG, prior to Signifcant Rule trialling to the satisfaction of the Stewards, before being permitted to race again.

Mr Cantankerous – Began awkwardly. Forced wider rounding the home turn by Flash Panther, which shifted out.  A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which raced wide and without cover and was beaten 31 lengths, revealed the gelding to be slow to recover and had lost its near-fore plate.

Laphroaig – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.
