The ground on day three of the Qatar Goodwood festival is forecast to be good to soft after a dry day and lack of rainfall forecast overnight.
Clerk of the course, Ed Arkell, changed the going to soft, good to soft in places after the second race on Wednesday and expects better conditions again by the start of racing on Thursday.
He said: “It’s dried again today to soft, good to soft in places and I expect it to be good to soft tomorrow morning, with a GoingStick reading of around 6.7.
“The overnight forecast is dry and then some light rain after racing into Friday, after which it’s dry.”
Runners at Goodwood on Thursday will have the option of racing on fresh ground in the straight, with the false rail on the inside of the course being removed for the second half of the week.
“We’re taking the false rail down tonight so there will be six yards of fresh ground in the straight from the three-and-a-half-furlong point,” Arkell said.
