Godolphin weekend runners update

Godolphin's trainer James Cummings comments on the stable's runners at Caulfield and Randwick on Saturday.

15:35   East Malvern Bendigo Bank MRC Foundation Cup-Group 3  (Qlty)       (2000m)

ETYMOLOGY (AUS) - 7yo Gelding by New Approach (IRE) out of Weaver of Words (GB)
James Cummings, Jockey – Ben Melham, 54kg, Barrier: 12
“He’s appreciated the drier tracks and has performed really well after a long and successful campaign when last in work.”
“Our intention is to get him to the Naturalism Stakes and then to the Bart Cummings.”

16:15   Ladbrokes Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes-Group 1       (1400m)

BEST OF DAYS (GB) - 5yo Gelding by Azamour (IRE) out of Baisse (GB)
James Cummings, Jockey – Dean Yendall, 58kg, Barrier: 13
“On paper, this looks to be a winnable race with only one last-start winner entered. In saying that, it is a Group One 1400m contest and no Group One is easy.
“He galloped well at Caulfield on Tuesday morning suggesting his fitness and attitude are sharp.”
“A strong performance will set him up for the Toorak or the Epsom.”

DEPRIVE (AUS) - 5yo Gelding by Denman (AUS) out of Defrock (AUS)
James Cummings, Jockey – Ms Rachel King, 54.5kg, Barrier: 14
“He’s earned the right to run in a good race like this.”
“He was beaten at Moonee Valley by an amazing performance by The Inevitable.”
“He loves winning, he knows how to win and I can see him charging to the wire.”

14:05   Darley Tea Rose Stakes-Group 2  (3yoF SW)       (1400m)

FLIT (AUS) - 3yo Filly by Medaglia d'Oro (USA) out of Glissade (AUS)
James Cummings, Jockey – Tim Clark, 56kg, Barrier: 1
“She’s been getting to the line beautifully over 1,200m, so this race looks suitable.”
“It is a challenging assignment though and should be a good test of her potential.”

14:40   Bill Ritchie Handicap-Group 3  (Qlty)       (1400m)

CASCADIAN (GB) - 4yo Gelding by New Approach (IRE) out of Falls of Lora (IRE)
James Cummings, Jockey – Kerrin McEvoy, 56kg, Barrier: 4
“This will be a much more enjoyable test for him than the 1,200m first-up.”
“Our feeling is that he’s got plenty to offer, so we’re thinking of the Epsom or the Cantala.”

TALLY (AUS) - 7yo Gelding by Street Cry (IRE) out of Itemise (USA)
James Cummings, Jockey – Joshua Parr, 58kg, Barrier: 6
“Tally is big in condition ahead of his first-up run here in the 1,400m Bill Ritchie. The horse is really flourishing in the early stages of his preparation and although he will use this as a starting point for getting out over further, he’s been the type of horse in the past that hasn’t been completely out paced when fresh up over similar distances.”

15:15   Bowermans Office Furniture Shorts-Group 2  (SWP)       (1100m)

HOME OF THE BRAVE (IRE) - 7yo Gelding by Starspangledbanner (AUS) out of Blissful Beat (GB)
James Cummings, Jockey – Glyn Schofield, 57kg, Barrier: 10
“Home Of The Brave was a late nomination in the G2 Shorts on account of the very wet weather hitting Sydney this week. He’s had good opportunity to advance in fitness off the back of his recent trial where he went nicely.
“The horse possesses a reasonably good fresh record and he’s carrying really nice condition first-up into this event.
“Whilst we can imagine he’s going to be much better second-up, particularly in a race like the Gilgai up the straight, the wet track this week could really bring this horse into contention in a high quality event.”

OSBORNE BULLS (AUS) - 6yo Gelding by Street Cry (IRE) out of Jerezana (AUS)
James Cummings, Jockey – James McDonald, 57kg, Barrier: 6
“What I like about this race is that he isn’t in a G1 first-up and he doesn’t have to make a statement to get into The Everest. There’s no pressure on him in that respect.”
“He galloped at Randwick last Saturday week and I considered giving him a trial last Tuesday, but he got enough out of the gallop to have him where I want him for this race.”
“Importantly, we have him in a position where he can come on from this run.”
Re Everest: “Our attitude is to treat him as though he’s our Everest horse.”
“Alizee has the same target and we’d be approachable if anyone wanted to talk to us.”

VIRIDINE (AUS) - 5yo Gelding by Poet's Voice (GB) out of Patina (AUS)
James Cummings, Jockey – Jason Collett, 57kg, Barrier: 8
“He raced well in Queensland following a brilliant win at the Scone carnival. The 1,100m is a distance he likes and his early preparation form is commendable. We expect him to hit the line with gusto.

15:55   Colgate Optic White Stakes-Group 1  (WFA)       (1600m)

AVILIUS (GB) - 5yo Gelding by Pivotal (GB) out of Alessandria (GB)
James Cummings, Jockey – Kerrin McEvoy, 59kg, Barrier: 8
“This race will be challenging for him at 1,600m, but he’s very well and there is a bit in his favour.”
“In his first preparation he started off at 1,600m and then went to 1,900m. On the same program last year he ran in the Kingston Town at 2,000m.”
“We’re learning more and more about him and we’ve made slight adjustments. The accent this campaign has been on speed with a 1,400m first-up run in the Winx Stakes and a fighting second in the Chelmsford. Race conditions were unfavourable in both events and a probable heavy surface this Saturday will be to his liking.”
Re major spring target: “The Cox Plate is an obvious target and the Caulfield Cup is also in our minds. Under the right circumstances he could even run in both, but nothing is set in stone.”
