Haky (IRE) Steadied when tightened for room approaching the winning post on the first occasion between South Pacific (GB) and Norway (IRE), which, after initially shifting in away from Fanciful Toff (Dean Yendall), was then taken in further by that gelding before being straightened. D Yendall was notified to ensure that he leaves sufficient room when in similar circumstances. Lost the near fore plate.

Fanciful Toff Performed poorly and weakened from the 400 metres. Rider Dean Yendall reported his mount hung in throughout the event, was under pressure some distance from home and was disappointing when it failed to respond to his riding in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be suffering a throat condition. A veterinary clearance is required prior to being permitted to race again.

Norway (IRE) Rider Michael Dee could offer no explanation for the geldings disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormality.

After hearing evidence from both parties it was the Stewards view that had the interference suffered by ThinkNFly not occurred Degraves (IRE) would have finished ahead of ThinkNFly and the protest was dismissed.

At a subsequent inquiry apprentice Will Price (Degraves) was severely reprimanded for using his whip on a horse which was laying in after Degraves had previously indicated to him that it would shift in. In arriving at the decision Stewards took into account that Degraves was racing greenly.
