Trainer Danny O'Brien was fined $300 under the provisions of AR130 for the failure to submit an updated stable return for Grinzinger Allee (NZ) which was stabled at the Barwon Heads licensed premises.

 

Race 1 AAMI NEXT GENERATION SPRINTERS SERIES FINAL - 1200 metres:

Jabali Ridge Change of tactics: to be ridden more forward. Settled in the lead.

Standoff Raced keenly through the early stages.

 

Race 2 LEXUS BANJO PATERSON SERIES FINAL - 1420 metres:

Sin To Win (NZ) Slow to begin.

Chapada Rider Daniel Stackhouse reported the gelding raced flat and may have come to the end of its current preparation. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. A stable representative for the Moroney stable indicated the gelding would now be given a brief freshen-up.

Sasko Apprentice Michael Poy reported that he was instructed to urge his mount along in the middle stages in an attempt to establish a margin on the field as the gelding is one-paced.

 

Race 3 KENNEDY TAJ ROSSI SERIES FINAL LISTED - 1600 metres:

Mystique Falcon (NZ) Began awkwardly, then hampered by Alcyone which shifted in.

Toyz On Fire Began awkwardly. Steadied near the 800m to avoid heels. Performed below market expectations. Rider Damien Oliver reported the filly was not suited by the slow tempo of the race. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Alcyone Raced wide without cover.

Burleigh Boy Raced three wide without cover from the 1000m.

Johnny Get Angry (NZ) Held up for clear running from the 500m until passing the 300m.

Narvaez Performed below market expectations. Led and then weakened from the 150m. Rider Dwayne Dunn could offer no explanation for the performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.

Billieo Eased down in the straight. Apprentice Lewis German could offer no explanation for the performance. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

 

Race 4 G.H. MUMM MAHOGANY CHALLENGE FINAL - 2500 metres:

Johandough Raced keenly through the early and middle stages.

Persan Lost the near hind plate.

 

Race 5 FURPHY ALL VICTORIAN SPRINT SERIES FINAL - LISTED - 1200 metres:

Great Again Slow to begin.

Snitzkraft Raced ungenerously through the early stages.

Rich Charm Performed below market expectations. Rider Patrick Moloney reported that the gelding was disappointing when placed under pressure and in his opinion would be suited over more ground at this stage. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.

Milwaukee Rider Jye McNeil reported that the gelding failed to handle today's Soft 6 track conditions. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Tavisan (NZ) Rider Ben Melham stated that when placed under pressure his mount failed to respond and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with the stable.

 

Race 6 JIM BEAM LEILANI SERIES FINAL - 1400 metres:

Great Duchess Began awkwardly and slow into stride before settling at the rear of the field. Got its head up approaching the 1000m when being steadied off the heels of La Tigeresa and then continued to race keenly three wide.

Honey Esprit Began awkwardly. A post‑race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the near fore heel.

Snogging Tightened for room approaching the 1000m by Miss Mandito (NZ) which was laying in despite the efforts of its rider. A post‑race veterinary examination revealed a poor recovery. A veterinary certificate along with the satisfactory results of an endoscopic examination will be required prior to racing again.

Something Silver Steadied near the 1000m when tightened for room by El Questro (C. Hall) which when racing keenly shifted in. Chelsea Hall was severely reprimanded under AR131(a) and notified to exercise more care in future. Stewards took into account that her mount was racing keenly.

So You Swing Disappointed for clear running from the 500m until passing the 300m.

River Jewel Rider Jamie Kah could offer no explanation for the performance. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

El Questro A post‑race veterinary examination revealed a poor recovery. A veterinary certificate will be required prior to racing again.

 

Race 7 TAB SILVER BOWL SERIES FINAL - 1600 metres:

Alphaville (NZ) Slow to begin and tightened for room by Barbie's Fox which shifted in. Held up for clear running from the 300m and went to the line not fully tested.

Over The Sky (NZ) Slow to begin. Steadied at the 300m to avoid the heels of Alphaville (NZ) (C. Williams) which, after steadying to avoid heels itself, then shifted in before being straightened by C. Williams, its rider. Whilst accepting that Craig Williams himself was close to heels, he was advised to exercise care when in similar circumstances in future. A post‑race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.

Garimpeiro Settled outside the leader and weakened from the 350m. Rider Michael Rodd reported the gelding over-raced in the early stages and as a result failed to finish the race off. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities

Cabinho (NZ) Got its head up in the early stages when being restrained. Rider Damien Oliver reported that he had intended to settle closer, however the gelding did not show sufficient early speed and as a result settled further back.

Barbie's Fox Raced four wide without cover.

Smoke Bomb Led and weakened from the 350m. Rider Jamie Kah reported the gelding was on the wrong leg for the entire race and in her opinion felt uncomfortable in its action. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with the stable.

Grinzinger Allee (NZ) Held up for clear running from the 500m until passing the 300m.

Stretto Raced three wide without cover. Rider Fred Kersley pleaded guilty to a breach of the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on 10 occasions prior to the 100 metres. Fred Kersley had his licence to ride in races suspended for a total of six meetings to commence midnight 11 July 2020 and to expire midnight 17 July 2020. A fine of $300 was also imposed. Stewards took into account his record, guilty plea, the fact his mount ran 3rd and the totality of whip use.

 

Race 8 SEPPELT WINES VRC-CRV WINTER CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES FINAL LISTED - 1600 metres:

Savvy Oak (NZ) Began awkwardly and was slow to begin.

Mr Marathon Man (GB) Raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages. Rider Jamie Mott reported it had not been the intention to settle so far forward, however when racing keenly from a wide gate, he elected to allow the gelding to stride forward and settle outside the leader.

Chapel City Raced three wide without cover from the 1000m.

Never Again Held up for clear running from the 300m until shifting in across heels near the 150m.

Heptagon (NZ) Rider Dean Yendall reported that the gelding failed to travel throughout and was disappointing. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with the stable.

Victoria Star (NZ) Ben Melham pleaded guilty to a breach of the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on 10 occasions prior to the 100 metres. Ben Melham had his licence to ride in races suspended for a total of six meetings to commence midnight 4 June 2020 and to expire midnight 10 July 2020. Stewards took into account his guilty plea, good record and that his mount was laying in.

 

Race 9 SCHWEPPES RIVETTE SERIES FINAL - 1400 metres:

Diaquin (NZ) Began awkwardly.

Splendoronthegrass Rider Daniel Stackhouse stopped riding for a stride near the 100m to avoid the heels of Cordilla which laid in under pressure.

Paul's Regret Raced four wide without cover.

Vistabelle (NZ) Raced three wide without cover.

Brazen Song Got its head up and raced ungenerously approaching the 1000m.

Win Fall Steadied approaching the 1000m when tightened for room by Beauty Bolt which laid in and away from the heels of Brazen Song who was being restrained. Rider Ben Melham reported the filly failed to handle today's Soft 6 track conditions.

Lonado Was momentarily held up for clear running passing the 300m.

Beauty Bolt Performed below market expectations. A post‑race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the off foreleg. A veterinary certificate will be required prior to racing again.

Ocean Miss Rider Jake Noonan could offer no explanation for the performance. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Stewards interviewed Ciaron Maher, co-trainer of Thought of That, which was a nomination for Race 4, the G.H. Mumm Mahogany Challenge (but a non-acceptor), along with racing manager Reece Murphy and managing owner Brae Sokolski. After considering the evidence, Stewards were of the view that there was no breach of AR74 with respect to Thought of That being entered to affect the weight of another nomination.
