With the feature races at Randwick on Saturday closing on Tuesday the attention on Monday was on the support races including the $300,000, Group 2 TAB Sapphire Stakes (1200m) for fillies and mares with 21 nominations and a field capacity of 16 plus four emergencies.
The race sponsor TAB has the Jamie Richards trained Entriviere (NZ) as the $3.50 favourite on Monday with the lightly raced four-year-old Tavistock mare coming off a win in the Group 3 Kings Plate over 1200m at Ellerslie on March 7th. Entriviere has won five of her six starts and placed second on the other start.
The Snowden trained California Zimbol is on the second line at $6.00. The four-year-old I Am Invincible mare won the Group 3 Maurice McCarten Stakes over 1100m at Rosehill on March 13th and then placed fourth to stablemate Signore Fox in the Group 3 Star Kingdom Stakes over 1200m on April 3rd.
Joe Pride’s Faskia is next in the market at $7.00 with the five-year-old So You Think mare resuming after an unproductive spring. A Group 3 winner Faskia was Group 1 placed in the All Aged Stakes over 1400m last year.
The $150,000, Listed Bisley Workwear South Pacific Classic (1400m) for three-year-old’s received 16 nominations and the $150,000, Listed ALM Fernhill Mile Handicap (1600m) received 11 with nominations opened until Tuesday.
The Course Proper is rated a Soft 6 on Monday after 44.4mm of rain over the last seven days and the rail moves from the True position out to the 3m position for the entire circuit.
