Earlier start for Caulfield

Saturday's Caulfield meeting has been brought forward to prevent a repeat of visibility problems experienced when the final race was run at the venue a fortnight ago.

Racing Victoria, in conjunction with the Melbourne Racing Club, has moved the last race to 4:10pm (AEST), 68 minutes before the official sunset time for Melbourne at 5:18pm.

Consequently, the first of nine races will be held at 11:15am.

The forecast for Saturday predicts cloudy weather with 1-3mm of rain and a maximum temperature of 12 degrees.

The final race at Caulfield on June 29 - won by Elite Drake - was run 31 minutes before sunset in driving rain under bleak skies.

Multiple jockeys were caked in mud from the deteriorating Soft 7 surface and reported visibility issues to stewards and media personnel upon returning to scale. The official photo finish was barely observable.

Saturday's race schedule:

Race 1 - 11:15am;
Race 2 - 11:45am;
