Other Comments/Explanations

Rider Craig Williams was examined by the RV Doctor after Race 2 and was passed fit to fulfil his remaining engagements.

Race 1 NEDS VOBIS GOLD STAYERS - 2412 metres:

Reflect The Stars Slow to begin.

Royal Crown Began awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with Cakewalk Baby.

Cakewalk Baby Raced three wide without cover from passing the winning post the first time until allowed to stride forward and take the lead passing the 1600m. When being restrained passing the 1400m got its head up and overraced. Weakened from the 300m. Rider Michael Poy reported he was instructed to ride back in the field with cover, however after beginning well, he was obliged to race three wide without cover and due to the slow tempo, he therefore decided to allow his mount to stride forward. A post‑race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the off foreleg. A veterinary clearance will be required prior to racing again.

Mahamedeis Held up for clear running from the 400m until passing the 300m.

Race 2 MRC MEMBER ALAN YATES HCP - 1400 metres:

Mr Exclusive Change of tactics: more forward from inside barrier. Led.

Great Duchess Raced wide without cover from the 900m.

King Magnus Held up for clear running from the 300m until shifting out across heels at the 150m.

Why Choose Her Held up for clear running from passing the 300m and went to the line not fully tested.

The Inevitable Approaching the finishing line was eased to avoid the heels of Viral which shifted out.

Dark Dream Rider Luke Nolen reported he was not overly disappointed with the performance and in his opinion the gelding would be better suited over a further distance than today's event. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 3 NEDS VOBIS GOLD INGOT - 1400 metres:

River Views Change of tactics: intention to ride back with cover. Settled at the rear of the field. Bounded at the start and was slow to begin.

Pammy Joy Began awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with Blazing Bay. Checked near the 1000m after laying in towards the heels of Swear She's Perfect which had also shifted out before then racing keenly. Rider Damien Oliver reported the filly was flat-footed prior to straightening and when making ground in the straight was held up for clear running. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Cherrypick Began awkwardly. Rider Brett Prebble reported the filly failed to run out a strong 1400m after having raced keenly on pace through the early and middle stages.

Blazing Bay Bumped at the start by Pammy Joy which shifted in.

Swear She's Perfect Near the 200m was checked after laying in towards the heels of Cherrypick (B. Prebble) which shifted out and away from Sunfall which was also shifting out to obtain clear running. After taking into account that Swear She's Perfect laid in and contributed to this incident, Stewards took no further action, other than to notify Brett Prebble that when in similar circumstances he should attempt to straighten his mount sooner than he did on this occasion.

Reynaire Rider Jamie Kah reported that in her opinion the colt was suffering from a respiratory complaint. A post‑race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery. Stewards will follow up with the stable.

Race 4 - MRC MEMBER GARRY FRANKLIN HCP - 1100 metres:

La Mexicana Underwent a veterinary examination upon arrival after being agitated en route in the float and was passed suitable to race. Eased at the 600m to avoid the heels of High Risk. Over the concluding stages laid in.

High Risk Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Near the 600m when overracing was steadied away from the heels of Miss Albania.

Absolute Flirt Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Held up for clear running from the 400m until approaching the 100m.

Race 5 MRC MEMBER LINDA LEO HCP - 1400 metres:

Seberate Slow to begin.

Evening Glory Slow to begin. Passing the 100m was disappointed for clear running and therefore over the concluding stages shifted to the outside of Scantoon in an attempt to obtain clear running.

Scarlet Tufty (FR) Slow to begin. Stewards questioned rider John Allen regarding his riding from the 500m. John Allen reported he was instructed to ride his mount quietly and get it to relax to enable it to finish the race off strongly. He added that the gelding had a tendency to race keenly, and passing the 400m he was in two minds whether to follow Just Folk or shift to its outside in an attempt to gain clear running as he was of the view that Chassis would shift out and interrupt his running. He added that after having shifted to the outside passing the 300m, he was then held up for running before then electing to shift back to the inside of And Beyond for clear running to the line. He further added that Scarlet Tufty (FR) then made good ground to the finish. Stewards confirmed the instructions with co-trainer David Eustace who added that the gelding had been working keenly and for this reason the stable wanted Scarlet Tufty (FR) to be ridden back with cover and to relax in his races. Stewards notified John Allen that in their view his ride from the 500m until passing the 300m lacked purpose and initiative and in their view should have maintained running behind Just Folk which would have then allowed him clear running in the home straight. He was further notified that he should ride all his mounts in a manner that leaves no room for query.

Wicklow Town Raced wide without cover from the 1000m.

And Beyond Apprentice Lachlan Neindorf reported his mount had a good run throughout and prior to straightening was following the winner, Wicklow Town, however when placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Promotions Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

Easy Beast (NZ) Checked passing the 200m when tightened for room between Evening Glory and Jittery Jack which laid in away from Scantoon before being straightened by its rider.

Mister Dynamix Got its head up when racing keenly passing the 1100m. Passing the 150m had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Wicklow Town (B. Egan) which shifted in.

Billy Egan (Wicklow Town) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a), the careless riding being that passing the 150 metres, he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting in when not sufficiently clear of Mister Dynamix which resulted in that gelding having to be steadied to avoid the heels of Wicklow Town. Billy Egan's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence midnight 25 July 2021 and to expire midnight 9 August 2021, a total of 10 race meetings (3 metropolitan, 7 provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account his guilty plea, excellent record and that the carelessness was in the mid-range.

Sessions Road Relinquished its position near the 250m when tightened for room by Easy Beast (NZ) (C. Hefel). Rider Dean Holland reported the gelding overraced and failed to respond to his riding in the straight. Post-race endoscopy of Sessions Road detected a degree of internal exercise‑induced pulmonary haemorrhage which may have affected the horse's racing performance. A veterinary clearance will be required prior to racing again.

Carleen Hefel (Easy Beast [NZ]) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a), the careless riding being that near the 250 metres, she rode her mount in to the inside of Jittery Jack to obtain clear running when not sufficiently clear of Sessions Road which resulted in that gelding having to relinquish its position. Carleen Hefel's permit to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence midnight 1 August 2021 and to expire midnight 10 August 2021, a total of 10 race meetings (2 metropolitan, 8 provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account her guilty plea, excellent record and that the carelessness was in the mid-range.

Race 6 CIARON MAHER RACING PREMIERSHIP - 2412 metres:

Cru Classe (NZ) Began awkwardly.

Equine Philosopher Began awkwardly.

Capricorn Ridge Began awkwardly and was then bumped by Vintage Diesel (NZ) which shifted out.

Za'Ex Raced three wide without cover. Eased down in the straight. Rider Brett Prebble reported in his opinion the gelding was suffering from a respiratory complaint. Post-race endoscopy detected a throat condition which may have affected the gelding's racing performance. A veterinary clearance will be required prior to racing again.

Eco Warrior Eased approaching the finishing line when improving into running between Murrumbidgee River and Bow Thruster.

Vintage Diesel (NZ) Apprentice Lewis German reported his mount was not suited by the slow tempo and may be better suited over a shorter distance. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 7 NEDS FILTER FORM HCP - 1200 metres:

Duke Of Neworleans Change of tactics: more forward. Bounded at the start. Settled midfield. Got its head up near the 900m when over-racing and shifting out away from the heels of Dickin Medal which had also shifted out when racing keenly. Rider Michael Dee could offer no explanation for the performance other than his mount is better suited by not being crowded amongst other runners. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with the stable.

Hickok Slow to begin.

Far Enough Slow to begin.

Tax Free Prophet Slow into stride. Near the 900m was checked to avoid the heels of Duke Of Neworleans which shifted out when overracing.

Better Kick Overraced in the early stages.

The Garden Overraced in the early stages. Raced wide without cover throughout.

Rockcliff Overraced in the early stages. Raced wide without cover throughout.

Dickin Medal Overraced in the early and middle stages.

The Big Easy Held up for clear running from the 300m until the 150m. Rider Jamie Kah reported although her mount was held up for a short distance on straightening, once she obtained a run, the gelding failed to respond to her riding in the straight and was disappointing. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with the stable.

The Defiant One In the home straight hung in. Near the 150m was tightened for room by Hickok (F. Kersley) which, when making ground, shifted to the inside of Holt which then shifted in slightly.

Stripped Back Tightened for room passing the 200m by The Defiant One which hung in Stewards accepted that Hickok had obtained running to the inside of Holt before Holt had then shifted in slightly, therefore took no further action other than to advise Fred Kersley to exercise care when obtaining runs in similar circumstances in future.

Race 8 THE BIG SCREEN COMPANY BLETCHINGLY STAKES - GROUP 3 - 1200 metres:

Sansom (NZ) Change of tactics: attempt to ride with cover. Settled midfield.

Brave Song Slow to begin. Shortly after the start clipped the heels of Red Can Man.

I Am Someone Began awkwardly.

Red Can Man Bounded at the start.

Viridine Laid out throughout and raced wide without cover.

Order Of Command Passing the 100m shifted to the inside of Red Can Man to obtain clear running but was then disappointed for clear running over the concluding stages behind Streets Of Avalon.

Race 9 MRC MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL HCP - 1200 metres:

Awapuni Princess Co-trainers Anthony and Sam Freedman were fined $200 under the provisions of LR63A(2)(b) for the late notification of the rider. Slow to begin.

Elidi Slow to begin.

Winning Weather Raced wide without cover.

Highly Righteous Steadied at the 300m when tightened for room between Winning Weather and Safe Passage which shifted out and away from Zesty Belle. Passing the 200m experienced difficulty obtaining clear running when tightened for room.

Safe Passage Eased down in the straight. Rider Craig Williams reported that once he gained cover on his mount, shortly thereafter he was under pressure and the filly failed to respond to his riding. He added he eased his mount down over the concluding stages, however reported the filly did not appear to have any problems on return to the mounting yard. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with the stable.
