The second emergency Bottega is the opening TAB $3.80 favourite for the $150,000, listed Lord Mayors Cup (2000m) at Rosehill on Saturday with a capacity field of 16 plus three emergencies accepted on Wednesday.
Gerald Ryan’s three-year-old Snitzel colt Bottega, a home-bred for Corumbene Stud, is coming off a 1 3/4L win in the Benchmark 78 over 1800m at Randwick on May 9th. Prior to that win, his third from nine starts, Bottega was twice second at Group 3 level in April with the last to Kinane (NZ) in the Frank Packer Plate over 2000m at Randwick on April 18th.
Bottega has barrier 15 for Saturday with 54kg under Brenton Avdulla if the colt gains a start in the field.
Matthew Smith’s Ilwendo (GER) and the Maher and Eustace trained Dr Drill (GB) share the second line of the market at $6.50 followed by Sixties Groove (IRE) and Yulong Prince (SAF) at $9.00 and the rest of the field $14.00 and over.
Ilwendo was second to Another Dollar (NZ) in the listed Gosford Cup over 2000m held at Randwick on May 9th carrying 54kg under Glen Boss. On Saturday Kerrin McEvoy rides with 53kg and barrier 19. Iiwendo is also accepted for the $125,000, Group 3 Chairman's Handicap (2000m) at Doomben with Matthew McGillivray to ride with 54kg.
The Maher and Eustace trained Dr Drill (GB) won the feature listed Scone Cup over 1600 at Scone on May 15th. The five-year-old Dansili gelding carried 56.5kg under Keagan Latham. On Saturday he has 58kg and barrier 10.
Sixties Groove has 60.5kg under Hugh Bowman with barrier six and Yulong Prince 59kg with barrier nine.
The Lord Mayors Cup is Race 7 at 3.10pm.
John Thompson has accepted with his progressive Deep Field filly Fituese for Race 5, the $100,000, Trapeze Artist @ Widden Bm 88 Handicap (1200m). The filly is five from seven and she comes off two wins in succession, the last in the listed Denise’s Joy Stakes over 1100m at Rosehill on April 16th.
The meeting commences at 11.30am with a field of 11 two-year-old’s in the $100,000, Darley 2YO Handicap (1100m) including two from Godolphin, Andermatt and Marnix.
Snitzel colt Andermatt won on debut over 1000m at Kembla Grange with 57kg under Kathy O’Hara. On Saturday the colt carries 56.5kg under Hugh Bowman with barrier 10. Marnix, by Written Tycoon, was last seen when 10th in the Inglis Millennium over 1100m, He has trialled twice in preparation for resuming, winning the last over 1000m at Hawkesbury on a Soft 6 track. Tommy Berry rides with barrier seven and 56kg.
The track is rated a Heavy 9 on Wednesday after 61.5mm of rain in the last seven days. The rail will be out 6m from the 1400m to the winning post and 4m for the remainder of the circuit.
