Race 1 carlton draught bm78 handicap 2400 metres:

Bedford (NZ) - Slow to begin. (2L).

Equine Philosopher - Commenced awkwardly. Commenced to give ground from passing the 400m before being eased down from the 200m. Performed below market expectations. Rider apprentice Rose Hammond reported that she had to make some use of her mount to take up the lead in the early stages. She added that when challenged by Mi Rock Aly (NZ) near the 1000m her mount was immediately under pressure and failed to respond to her riding. She added that her mount was not suited by the step up in grade today. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Haaland (NZ) Near the 2000m was eased to avoid the heels of Angel Of Light. Laid out under pressure in the straight.

Claim The Crown (IRE) Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event. Performed below market expectations. Rider Jamie Mott reported that although his mount was caught wide without cover, he was disappointed with its finishing effort. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Roaring Engine (NZ) Rider Daniel Moor reported that after beginning only fairly his mount settled further back than intended.

Subsequent to the race Blaike McDougall reported that he was feeling the effects of dehydration. Blaike McDougall was examined by RV Medical Staff following the race, and again prior to the running of Race Three, and was deemed fit to fulfil his remaining engagements.

 

Race 2 apiam animal Health vobis gold rush - 1000 metres:

Palais Du Rhin - Commenced awkwardly.

Toroness - Slow to begin.

Linkvue Held up from the 400m until passing the 250m.

Coastal Abbey For a short distance passing the 400m was held up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of Herastar.

Kalkee Raced three wide without cover throughout.

 

Race 3 smartloans bendigo bm70 handicap - 1300 metres:

Rocket Tiger - Change of tactics. Connections advised it was intended for the gelding to be ridden further forward if circumstances permit. Settled outside the leader.

Makusha - Slow to begin.

Got Socks (FR) - Commenced awkwardly.

Big Brew - Commenced awkwardly.

Girl Raced three wide without cover throughout. Performed below market expectations. Rider apprentice Jaylah Kennedy (NZ) reported that after being caught wide without cover her mount was unable to finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Intrepid Eagle Held up from the 500m until passing the 100m. Tactics queried. When questioned rider Luke Currie stated that after being held up rounding the home turn he initially intended on improving between Rocket Tiger and Girl, however when that run did not fully eventuate his mount continued to be held up. He stated that passing the 200m he looked to improve between Girl and Brazen Lady, however when that run also did not eventuate his mount was held up until passing the 100m, where it was shifted to the outside of Brazen Lady and finished its race off strongly.

Brazen Lady Held up from the 450m until the 250m.

Think Winning Held up from the 400m until shifting to the outside of Presser passing the 200m.

Chosen Venture Over the concluding stages was not fully tested when improving onto the heels of Rocket Tiger.

Mansiere Rider Jamie Mott reported that in his opinion his mount failed to run out a strong 1300m.

Electric Impulse Rider apprentice Ryan Houston reported that he was instructed to ride his mount with cover, however after beginning well he felt the better option in the circumstances was to take up the lead.

 

Race 4 immix, metal recycled right bm70 handicap - 1600 metres:

Goldenstatewarrior (IRE) Which last raced 26 August 2023, was examined by the RV Veterinary Surgeon upon arrival on course and was passed fit to race. Lost its off-hind plate during the race.

New York Hurricane Got a hind leg up in its barrier stall. Examined by the RV Veterinary Surgeon and was passed suitable to race.

Killourney (IRE) - Slow to begin.

Van Roy - Commenced awkwardly.

North Channel - Slow to begin.

Sunsource Slow to begin. Raced three wide without cover throughout. Rounding the home turn was bumped and taken wider by New York Hurricane, which shifted out to improve.

Letsbefrankbaby Knuckled on jumping away. Held up from the 400 until the 250m. Again held up for a short distance near the 100m.

Hell Rip Performed below market expectations. Rider Ethan Brown reported his mount would appreciate tracks with more give. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slower than normal recovery.

 

Race 5 balgownie estate bendigo 3yo handicap - 1100 metres:

Mount Olympus Got a hind leg up in its barrier stall. Examined by the RV Veterinary Surgeon and was deemed unsuitable to race. Late scratching at 2.11pm. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Co-trainers Tony & Calvin McEvoy were notified that a warning would be placed on the gelding.

Dont Hope Do Fractious in its barrier stall. Examined by the RV Veterinary Surgeon and was deemed unsuitable to race. Late scratching at 2.11pm. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Simon Zahra was notified that a warning would be placed on the gelding.

Atlantic Spirit - Slow to begin. Held up from the 400m until approaching the 200m.

Shesallshenanigans Rider Dean Yendall reported that his mount did not feel entirely comfortable in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Extremely Rowdy Rider Luke Currie reported that after being bumped by The King approaching the 600m his mount lost its action and failed to respond to his riding from that point. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with the stable.

 

Race 6 off the track bm84 handicap - 1100 metres:

Yulong Storm (USA) - Slow to begin.

Is It Me - Commenced awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the straight.

Semillion Knuckled on jumping.

Sparring Raced wide without cover throughout the race. Eased down from the 200m. Performed below market expectations. A post‑race veterinary examination revealed cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer Ron Stubbs was advised as this was the second time Sparring has suffered cardiac arrhythmia, the gelding must not start in a further race, official trial, or jump-out until the Stewards have received a satisfactory report from a qualified veterinary surgeon with specialist qualifications in equine medicine which includes the results of: (a) echocardiography performed by that veterinarian at rest; (b) electrocardiography (ECG) performed by that veterinarian at rest and at exercise and (c) any other examination that that veterinarian requests.  Following acceptance by the Stewards of the above report, they may grant written permission for the horse to be nominated for and participate in an official trial or jump-out.  The gelding must not be nominated for a race unless: (a) it trials to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official trial or jump‑out, of at least 1000 metres; and (b) a qualified veterinary surgeon provides a satisfactory post-trial report that includes the results of cardiac auscultation within 15 minutes of completion of the official trial or jump-out.  Following a satisfactory trial or jump-out which only Stewards or veterinarians officiate at, and upon receiving the satisfactory post-trial veterinary report referred to above, the Stewards may grant written permission for Sparring to be nominated for and participate in a race.

Boldinho Near the 350m was crowded for room between Garza Blanca and Red Hot Nicc, which shifted out, then raced in restricted room between those two runners until approaching the 100m. Rider apprentice Ryan Houston was spoken to advisedly regarding his persistence in attempting to improve into a run where there was doubtful room.

Garza Blanca When weakening passing the 200m was steadied away from the heels of Is It Me (Daniel Moor), which shifted in under pressure. Daniel Moor was advised to exercise far greater care in similar circumstances. Performed below market expectations. Rider Jamie Mott reported that his mount gave ground quickly over the final 300m and made an unusual respiratory noise. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be lame in the near hindleg. A veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again.

Red Hot Nicc Laid out under pressure rounding the home turn and in the straight.

 

Race 7 catanachs jewellers bendigo gold bracelet - 1400 metres:

Sirileo Miss Which last raced 8 April 2023 was examined by the RV Veterinary Surgeon upon arrival on course and was passed fit to race. Raced keenly in the early stages and raced three wide without cover throughout. Rider Jamie Mott reported that he was not disappointed with the performance of his mount, which was first up from a lengthy spell and raced wide without cover throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Nunthorpe Missed the start. (2L). Ride Luke Nolen reported that after missing the start his mount settled much further back than intended, then failed to finish its race off in the straightA post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Shuffle Dancer Commenced awkwardly. Tactics queried. Rider Linda Meech reported that with an apparent lack of speed in the race she had intended on settling a little further forward than is customary. She added that after commencing awkwardly her mount mustered good speed in the early stages and when she observed Fancylanski, which was not a favoured runner, looking to cross her mount, she allowed her mount to continue forward to take up the lead, which was further forward than intended.

Cuban Link Passing the 1200m was restrained away from the heels of Marble Arch (NZ). Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced four wide without cover throughout.

Papillon Club Passing the 100m was eased when disappointed for a run between Belle Et Riche and Marble Arch (NZ), which shifted out.

Fancylanski Rider Arron Lynch reported that after beginning well today he elected to take advantage and take up a position outside the leader, which was further forward than at recent starts.

 

Race 8 rsn 945am bendigo guineas - 1400 metres:

Sunshineinmypocket (NZ) Slow to begin. Held up from the 400m until near the 250m and raced in restricted room for the remainder of the race. Unplaced favourite. ($3.20). Rider John Allen reported that his mount raced in restricted room for the duration of the straight and did not have the opportunity to finish its race off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Wolfy (NZ) - Slow to begin. Shortly after the start was restrained and taken back to obtain cover. Held up from the 400m until the 300m. Laid out throughout the event and continued to lay out under pressure in the straight.

Roll On High - Slow to begin. Held up from the 400m until the 250m. Rider Luke Nolen reported his mount was not suited by the slow tempo in the early and middle stages.

Modown - Slow to begin. Near the 800m, when racing keenly, was steadied from the heels of Allapercanto.

Dual Pressure Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

Bay Of Zea Raced keenly outside the leader. Rider Blaike McDougall reported that he had some concerns with his mounts action over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Dubenenko Raced three wide without cover throughout.

Red Dates Raced keenly in the middle stages.

Lady In Pink - Raced four wide without cover throughout the race.

Certainly (NZ) - Raced five wide without cover throughout the race.

Attain A post-race veterinary examination, at the request of trainer Robbie Laing, revealed a slower than normal recovery.

 

Race 9 bet365 golden mile - 1600 metres:

Belle Plaisir (NZ) As Blaike McDougall was feeling the effects of dehydration and was required to take on fluid after the running of Race 1, he was unable to make the weight. Therefore apprentice Jaylah Kennedy was permitted to replace him as the rider of the mare.

The Summit (FR) Late scratching at 2.25pm due to the track upgrade.

Euphoric - Slow to begin. Performed below market expectations. Rider Daniel Moor reported that although his mount finished its race off well, it never travelled well in the early and middle stages and he had recommended to connections that it may be better suited with the addition of blinkers. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Stageman - Slow to begin. Held up from the 400m until the 300m.

Makram (IRE) - Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Rider Harry Coffey reported that his mount did not finish off as well as expected and may be better suited to tracks with more give.

Foxy Frida Had difficulty securing clear running between the 300m and the 200m.

Just Folk Laid out under pressure in the straight.

Golden Path (NZ) - Performed below market expectations. Rider Beau Mertens could offer no explanation for the performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

 

Race 10 filkel bm84 handicap - 1400 metres:

Ima Shelby - Commenced awkwardly. Had difficulty securing clear running from the 400m until passing the 200m. Passing the 100m was steadied from the heels of Hennessy Lad (NZ) when that runner struck interference.

Chorlton Lane (IRE) Near the 900m, when racing keenly, was steadied from the heels of Maktoob (GB).

Extratwo Had some difficulty securing clear running from the 400m until the 200m.

Chartres Held up from the 350m until passing the 200m. Over the final 50m was awkwardly placed close to the heels of Lethal Thoughts and as a result could not be fully tested to the finish.

Blow In Near the 150m was checked to avoid the heels of Maktoob (GB) when that runner struck interference.

Green Fly (GB) Rider Luke Currie reported that over the final 100m his mount laid in behind Chorlton Lane (IRE).

Imperial Lad Rider apprentice Taylah Childs reported in her opinion her mount had come to the end of its preparation.

Hennessy Lad (NZ) Performed below market expectations. Rider Luke Nolen could offer no explanation for the performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Ethan Brown (Chorlton Lane (IRE)) - Pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a), the carelessness being that near the 150m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Maktoob (GB), which was crowded in onto the hindquarters of Hennessy Lad (NZ), which became unbalanced and was turned outwards, exacerbating the crowding to Maktoob (GB). Ethan Brown had his licence to ride in races suspended for a total of 7 race meetings (1 metropolitan, 6 provincial), with the period to commence on 21 April 2024 and expire on 26 April 2024.  Accordingly, Ethan Brown will be able to return to ride on 27 April 2024. In assessing penalty Stewards deemed the incident to be in the low range and took into account his guilty plea and excellent record.
