Belle open to lots of improvement

Star New Zealand galloper Melody Belle (NZ) will take significant improvement from her first-up Australian run in the Futurity Stakes, assistant trainer Paul Richards believes.

The 10-time Group 1 winner galloped at Caulfield on Tuesday ahead of Saturday's feature, with Richards saying Melody Belle 'needed a decent hit-out'.

"She had a really good hit-out,” said Richards, the father of trainer Jamie Richards.

"She's not the best track worker in the world … but she got to the line good.

"She travelled over well, arrived in good order. It probably took her a week to settle in fully, to really lick the bin.

"But I couldn't be happier wither progress and her coat is really good."

Melody Belle is currently a $3.20 second favourite in BetEasy's all in Futurity Market. Opie Bosson will fly to Australia on Friday to ride her in the Group 1.

"Obviously it's first-up this prep. If you go back to the spring, she took one (run) in the Foxbridge (Plate) and then went bang, bang at Hastings," Richards added.

"Whatever she does on Saturday she will improve with."
