Godolphin’s five-year-old Sepoy mare Alizee is back to defend her 2019 victory in the 2020 renewal of the $200,000, Group 2 WFA Expressway Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on Saturday. The race drew seven nominations on Monday and like six others on the nine race programme nominations are extended.
Alizee is a dual Group 1 winner of the 2017 Flight Stakes and 2018 Queen Of The Turf Stakes with nine victories overall from her 24 starts and stakes earnings of $$2,961,550. If she repeats her 2019 win on Saturday she will clear the $3 million mark.
Gerald Ryan has nominated his three-year-old Standout to commence his new campaign. The Exceed And Excel colt, the winner of the listed Heritage Stakes over 1100m in the spring, has impressed with two trials, the last for a narrow second behind Dreamforce over 900m at Randwick last week.
The two-year-old’s start their summer and autumn black type racing in Sydney with the $160,000, Group 3 pair of Widden Stakes for fillies and Canonbury Stakes for the colts and geldings. Both are over 1100m. The Canonbury Stakes has seven nominations and the Widden Stakes 10.
The Maher and Eustace stable have nominated Cellsabeel after the Hinchinbrook filly demolished her rivals over 1100m at Rosehill on January 18th. The filly won by 6L under Tommy Berry and was rated the highest performed two-year-old by Timeform at 111+.
The stable have also nominated the Snitzel filly Away Game, the winner of the MM 2YO Classic over 1200m at the Gold Coast on January 11th.
Global Quest has been nominated by the Waller stable to resume in the Canonbury Stakes. The More Than Ready colt won the Group 3 Breeders’ Plate over 1000m at Randwick on October 5th and was put aside. He has had two trials running second in both, with the last by a narrow margin over 808m at Warwick Farm on January 21st.
The track is rated a Soft 6 on Monday after 16mm of rain in the last 24 hours and 25mm for the last seven days. The rail will be out 3m for the entire circuit.
Rosehill’s weather this week will be mainly partly cloudy from Tuesday through to Friday with temperatures up to 35c on Friday. Saturday’s forecast is for a very hot and sunny day with 21c – 41c.
