With wet weather predicted to sweep across Sydney’s west, last Saturday’s bottomless Heavy 10 Rosehill surface looks bound to re-emerge. The expected downpour has impacted total nominations (149) with the deadline being extended to Tuesday, 11am.
While there is no stakes racing on offer at Rosehill on Saturday, the competitive fields nominated for the two Benchmark 88 events scheduled are sure to keep the punters satisfied.
Having been scratched from the Starlight Stakes, the early market favourite from last Saturday’s sprint feature Snapdancer could be set to resume in the 1100m Benchmark 88. Trained out of the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace camp, the talented Choisir filly will be looking to carry over her quality form from last preparation that saw her place in both the Magic Millions Fillies and Mares race and the Group 3 Belmaine Stakes.
Fellow Starlight Stakes scratching Juan Diva could also take her place in the field after narrowly missing the frame in the Group 3 Furphy Sprint during Cup week. On the quick back-up, Mark Newnham-trained Dream Circle is another intriguing runner nominated for the 1100m event and will be hoping to atone his narrow defeat in the Starlight.
In the other Benchmark 88 Handicap over 1400m, Bjorn Baker-trained gelding Dynamic Impact and Victorian challenger Turbeau are both nominated and will be shooting for a hat-trick of wins. Last start winner Much Much Better and smart Godolphin mare Katalin are also possible runners.
Another galloper who may be on the short back-up and thrives in the anticipated soggy conditions is Brutality. The Joseph Pride-trained gelding will be hoping to go a few better after charging home for fourth in last Saturday’s Group 3 Festival Stakes (1500m).
Currently rated a Soft 7, the rail will be out four meters for the course entire.
