The $1m, Group 2 WFA Hill Stakes (2000m) received 18 nominations on Monday with the race one of seven black type races at Randwick on Saturday including the Group 1 trio of the Epsom Handicap (1600m), The Metropolitan (2400m) and Flight Stakes (1600m).
Acceptances for the Group 1 features are taken on Tuesday with the rest of the ten race programme on Wednesday.
Prominent in the nominations for the Hill Stakes is Chris Waller’s Verry Elleegant (NZ) with the multiple Group 1 winner dual nominated for the $1m, Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on Saturday, the race she won last year on her way to winning the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) at Caulfield.
Verry Elleegant won the Group 1 WFA George Main Stakes over 1600m at Randwick on September 18th over Riodini (NZ) and Think It Over. The Waterhouse and Bott trained Riodini is heading towards the Epsom Handicap and is currently the $6.00 TAB favourite.
Kerry Parker’s Think It Over opened his campaign with a sixth in the Group 1 Winx Stakes behind Mo’unga and Verry Elleegant and then won the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes over 1600m on September 4th.
Bjorn Baker has nominated She’s Ideel with the six-year-old Dundeel mare coming off a win in the Groupm3 Kingston Town Stakes over 2000m on the 18th.
The Waller stable have also nominated Atishu (NZ), Charms Star (NZ), Hungry Heart, Kukeracha (NZ), No Compromise (NZ) and Shared Ambition (NZ). Atishu and Hungry Heart are also nominated for the Turnbull Stakes.
TAB have Verry Elleegant as the $2.30 favourite in their All In market with Think It Over on the second line at $2.50.
The $500,000, Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) has 10 nominations including Rothfire after his fourth to Eduardo and Nature Strip in the Group 2 The Shorts over 1100m on the 18th. It was the first race back since the 2020 Golden Rose when he sustained a tendon injury.
The track is rated a Good 4 on Monday with the rail in the True position for the entire circuit.
Sydney’s weather this week has rain arriving on Wednesday with 8mm to 10mm possible with 22c. Thursday has a forecast of 1mm to 4mm possible with 24c with Friday partly cloudy and 25c. Saturday is forecast to be mostly sunny with 12c to 24.
