Blake Spriggs regains top spot in Rising Star Apprentice Series
01 Jun 2012 | By Ben Flores - racingnsw.com.au Blake Spriggs has clawed back his number one spot on the ladder for the Racing NSW/TAFE NSW-Western Sydney Institute Partnership Rising Star Apprentice Series following points gained for a second placing at Wyong on Thursday (31st May).
At the conclusion of the Rising Stars heats for May, Spriggs overtook Northern Rivers-based apprentice Matthew McGuren who led the series though April and May.
Spriggs (64) now leads by one point from McGuren (63) and Shaun Guymer who is sitting in third place on 50 points.
Spriggs has finished second twice behind Josh Adams in the two previous Rising Star Series and again faces a tight battle in the run home to the final heat.
Despite Spriggs’s dominance, McGuren will be seeking to take back pole position when he rides in the next heat of the series on Tuesday at Cessnock. Neither jockey has rides in Sunday’s heat to be held at Wagga Wagga.
Only 10 heats remain in the 2011/12 Series and the final, sponsored by TAFE NSW Western Sydney Institute, will be run for the third consecutive year at Hawkesbury Racecourse on Thursday, 5th July 2012.
