Makybe Diva’s Daughter tops Day One of Melbourne August Thoroughbred Sale
16 Aug 2012 | Inglis The two day 2012 Inglis Melbourne August Thoroughbred Sale got underway at Oaklands on Thursday, with Makybe Diva’s four-year-old daughter La Dolce Diva recording the highest price when selling for $300,000.

80% of the 116 broodmares offered on the opening day of the sale were sold for total receipts of $976,250.

By Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus, La Dolce Diva is the second foal of Australia’s highest prizemoney earner Makybe Diva. Australian Horse of the Year twice Makybe Diva accumulated $14,526,685 for her connections thanks to 15 wins (seven at Group 1 level) and seven placings from 36 career starts.

La Dolce Diva’s purchaser, Makybe, indicated that although they hadn’t set out to purchase the four-year-old they are pleased to add her to their broodmare band, with the valuable breeding prospect to be sent up to a leading stallion in the Hunter Valley during the upcoming 2012 breeding season.

“All the fillies and mares from the Diva’s family continue to be sent to the top stallions and although there was no plan in place to purchase La Dolce Diva today we are pleased to be able to secure her and thus continue our relationship into another generation of the family,” said Makybe’s Business Manager Wayne Noorman.

Other highlights on Thursday included the sale of Group 3 winner Valentine Miss to Damon Gabbedy’s Belmont Bloodstock for $155,000, Canadian born stakes performer Jive was sold for $65,000 and well related four-year-old mare Intelligent was snapped up by Peter Ford for $58,000.

Preceding the start of the sale was a parade of six Victorian First Season Sires; Anacheeva , Ilovethiscity , Master Of Design , Moshe , One World & Toorak Toff , which all grabbed the attention of many broodmare owners present at Oaklands.

“There has been plenty of chatter around the complex about the first season sires paraded this morning and I’m sure we’ll see many of the well-bred and performed mares purchased today patronising those stallions in the coming breeding season,” said Inglis Melbourne Director Peter Heagney.

“The interest in tomorrow’s catalogue of yearlings, unbroken and racing stock has been great, no doubt boosted by the unreserved dispersal of Wadham Park’s Racing Stable.

“With many interesting prospects for those wanting to be involved in racehorse ownership set to be offered tomorrow we look forward to welcoming everyone back out to Oaklands,” Heagney said.

Visitors to Oaklands on Friday will also have the opportunity to view all 34 finalist’s works from this year’s Inglis Equine Art Prize , which will be on display from 10am to 5pm.
