Race experience helps pave the way for Market On Open 30 Jul 2010
Craig Brennan

Race experience paved the way for Market On Open scoring his first win in the $65,000 Restricted Maiden for two-year-olds over 1200m on Friday night.

Having his second start, Market On Open, ridden by Danny Beasley, scored a three-and-a-half length victory over Silveron Wings (Mark Ewe) with Matterhorn (Vlad Duric) running on for third, three-quarters-of-a-length away.

Market On Open made his debut on Emirates Singapore Derby Day, finishing in seventh spot behind Top Venture after striking trouble in the run.

It was a different story on Friday night when the gelding was given plenty of room by Beasley in the run, streaking clear for a commanding victory.

Beasley said Market On Open should have finished second or third on his debut and had made the improvement from the race to stamp himself a promising galloper of the future.

“He wouldn’t have beaten the winner and possibly he should have run second or third at his first start,” said Beasley.

“We were following Rotorua and got a bit of buffeting and he wasn’t able to recover from that in the run to the line.

“The run certainly improved him and his work leading up to the race was good.

“It was a good strong win and hopefully there are more in store for him.”

Winning trainer Michael Freedman has always had a good opinion of the son of More Than Ready right from the day he came into work this campaign.

Purchased for A$85,000 at the Magic Millions Ready To Run Sale on the Gold Coast last year, Freedman resisted the temptation to run the gelding in last week’s Group 3 Magic Millions Juvenile Championship.

“He had a pretty torrid run on Derby Day and I didn’t want to put him under too much pressure too soon,” said Freedman.

“I’ve had a pretty high opinion of him right from the day he came into work and there is still plenty of time for him to run in the better races.

“I certainly class him up there with some of the better ones in the stable.”

Freedman said it was a good result for the owners of Market On Open – Qi Racing – who approached him out of the blue wanting him to find a horse for them.

“It was important to find the right race for this horse and get a win on the board early,” said Freedman.

“I think the owners are going to have a lot of fun with this horse.”

Market On Open is from the Night Shift mare Time For Bed and returned his owners around $35,000 in prizemoney for his success of Friday night.
