Kiwi yearlings out in force in Sydney 01 Mar 2005
By Phillip Quay

New Zealand studs have one of their strongest-ever represenations at the William Inglis Sydney Easter Yearling Sale this year.

New Zealand representative for William Inglis, Michael Otto, said the Kiwi contingent heading across to Sydney for the March 29, 30 and 31 sale was among the best ever in both quality and quantity.

"It's an outstanding line-up of yearlings from New Zealand which will be sold in Sydney this year which is good to see," Otto said.

Spearheading the New Zealand yearlings will be another top draft from Cambridge Stud which has figured prominently among the list of leading vendors at the sale in the past 10 years.

Among Cambridge Stud's line-up is a Stravinsky half-sister to the very smart NZ three-year-old Cheval De Troy who was a fast-finishing third in last Saturday's Canterbury Guineas and is going to be hard to beat in the Rosehill Guineas at his next start.

Cambridge Stud will offer 23 yearlings at the Sydney Sale. There are a strong line-up of Zabeel yearlings including the first foal - a filly - from dual Gr. 1 winner Cinder Bella.

There is also a Zabeel colt from Wellington-New Zealand Cup winner Smiling Like, a Zabeel colt from Dantelah and Giant Causeway colts from Scribbling and Silk Slipper in the Cambridge Stud draft.

Ardsley Stud, Masterton, will ahve two yearlings on offer - a colt by Stravinsky ex Acushla Marie and a filly by Montjeu ex Centuria.

Selling for the first time in Sydney from New Zealand will be Bloomsbury Stud which has a Stravinsky-Smile filly and a Zabeel-Zola filly. Zola won the Gr. 1 Ellerslie Sires' Produce Stakes as a two-year-old.

Haunui Farm, Auckland, heads to Sydney with a quality line-up of five yearlings - all fillies. There include a Fantastic Light-Dopff filly and a Zabeel-Pleasure filly as well as a Flying Spur-La Suffragette filly.

Little Avondale Stud had a strong sale at Karaka this year and is ready to build on that platform with three yearlings in Sydney. These are a Zabeel-Keely Flinn colt, a Carnegie-Sound Lover colt and a Traditionally-The World Is Mine colt.

Cambridge's The Oaks Stud has a reputation for selling nice yearlings in Sydney and this year it takes four across including two by resident sire Traditionally whose yearlings sold particularly well at Karaka. One of these Traditionally yearlings is a filly from A Goodlookin Broad who is the dam of Gr. 3 winner Pure Theatre.

Rich Hill Stud, Walton, ahs three yearlings by Zabeel to sell in Sydney - colt from Miss Tessla, a colt from So Like Lae and a filly from Tearrunner. There is also a Pentire-Biennale colt on offer.

Trelawney Stud, Cambridge, had a very healthy sale in Sydney last year and will be back across the Tasman with another powerful draft featuring a Giant's Causeway-La Bella Dama colt who is by all accounts a smashing individual. There is another Giant's Causeway yearling ex Sunny Lane in the draft as well as yearlings by Minardi, Zabeel, Spinning World and Viscount.

Matamata's Waikato Stud has six yearlings entered and all are by their resident sires - three by O'Reilly, two by Pins and one by Danasinga.

Auckland breeder Terry Jarvis wil be selling a Viscount-Hill Of Grace colt as part of the Willow Park Stud draft which should attract plenty of buyer interest. This is the first foal of Hill Of Grace, a high-class Zabeel mare who won the Gr. 1 Ansett Australia Stakes and Gr. 2 Moonee Valley Oaks and finished runner-up in the Gr. 1 Mackinnon Stakes.
