Race 3: The Wests Group Class 2 Handicap 1200m
The Big Vin– stable representative Mr A Dowling reported that the gelding had pulled up well with no abnormalities. He agreed with rider A Gibbons that the gelding had raced flat and said in the opinion of the stable it may be better suited with its runs spaced. He added The Big Vin would be freshened up prior to racing again.
RACE 1: K2 Concrete Constructions Maiden Plate 1350m
China Gale – began awkwardly. Held up rounding the home turn and upon straightening made contact with One Of A Kind on a number of occasions when endeavouring to improve between that runner and Elementae.
Delago Express – after being slow to begin, shifted out and made contact with Waiheke. When questioned, rider T Wolfgram stated that he was instructed, if possible, to settle in a forward position. He said that, after beginning only fairly, he rode his mount vigorously in the early stages in an endeavour to comply with his instructions, however, when both One Of A Kind and Elementae showed superior speed to Delago Express, he was obliged to settle behind those two runners in a midfield position. Trainer Mr D Lane confirmed the instructions issued to T Wolfgram and was reminded of his obligations to notify the Stewards of any change in riding tactics.
RACE 2: Cure Brain Cancer – DIPG Awareness Maiden Plate 2100m

Time And Again – raced wide and without cover throughout the event. Hampered and carried wider rounding the home turn by Dream Child, which shifted out. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
Sassy Charlie – when questioned, L Magorrian stated that he was instructed to ride the filly in the second half of the field today. He said from a wide barrier, after beginning well, he was neutral on his mount in the early stages and when the tempo of the race was strong he was able to shift his mount in behind runners and obtain a position at the rear of the field. He added, after shifting in behind runners, his mount immediately resented the kickback and, despite his efforts in endeavouring to improve, the filly did not respond to his riding and lost ground on the field. L Magorrian added that after the 600m he was able to obtain a position behind Whaler Bill and approaching the 400m a run presented between that runner and Polished Penny, however, when he endeavoured to improve into this run, Sassy Charlie continued to race greenly, hung in and despite his efforts proved difficult to shift to the outside of the heels of Whaler Bill, which resulted in the filly being held up until straightening. He said that, although a run was always present between Whaler Bill and Polished Penny, bearing in mind his mount’s reluctance to improve into that run he shifted Sassy Charlie to the outside of Polished Penny approaching the 100m, where the filly obtained clear running and ran on fairly, although continued to hang in. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Stewards deemed the racing manners of Sassy Charlie to be unacceptable. Stable representative Mr M Rowland was advised that the filly would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again.
RACE 4: Kevin R Sheather Class 2 Handicap 1350m
Loveletter – after arriving on course, was examined by the Club's Veterinary Officer and was deemed suitable to race.
The Outcast – near the 1200m had to be steadied when crowded for room between Oakfield General and Loveletter, which was taken in marginally by Love Shack Baby (M Bell), which shifted in when not clear. In all the circumstances M Bell was reprimanded.
Unbridled Power – unable to be tested over the final 50m when racing in restricted room to the inside of Love Shack Baby, which shifted in marginally. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, rider C Reith explained that his mount was inclined to lay out throughout the event and in his opinion the mare did not appreciate today’s firm track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
RACE 5: The Drew Chivas Memorial Maiden Handicap 1100m
Cosimo – the colt, which was late arriving on course due to transport difficulties, was examined by the Club's Veterinary Officer and deemed suitable to race.

Galahad’s Quest – laid in under pressure in the straight.
Denials – when questioned regarding his riding in the middle stages, L Magorrian stated that he was under no specific instructions. He said that, after beginning well, he was able to lead in the early stages and approaching the 800m his mount commenced to race keenly and when Cosimo, the eventual winner, improved to his outside, as he felt the rider of that horse was intent on leading and his mount continued to race keenly, rather than be challenged by that runner, he elected to take hold of his mount approaching the 650m. He added, after being crossed by Cosimo after the 600m, he allowed his mount to stride forward and race to the outside of that runner, however, passing the 400m Denials immediately became under pressure and did not respond to his riding. L Magorrian further stated that he was not entirely comfortable with his mount’s action in the straight and for this reason he did not fully test his mount over the final 200m, although this did not impact its finishing position. Although Stewards were of the view that L Magorrian’s riding in the middle stages did not affect his finishing position, he was advised that, bearing in mind the tempo of the race in the middle stages, he should have made more of an endeavour to have maintained his position to the inside of Cosimo, rather than taking hold and losing ground from that runner near the 600m.
RACE 6: Ryan’s Metal Roofing Class 1 Handicap 1000m
Bryan’s Babe – slow to begin. Raced keenly in the middle stages and approaching the 500m was restrained off the heels of Progression.
Trumbull – slow to begin. App. R Dolan (Crimson Ticket) pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137(a) in that approaching the 700m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Trumbull, which was racing keenly, resulting in that runner having to be steadied and losing its rightful running. Bryan’s Babe and Bell Serenade, which were following, were both checked in consequence. App. Dolan’s permit to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Tuesday, 17 July 2018 and to expire on Thursday, 26 July 2018, on which day he may ride.

Fashion Ticket – raced wide and without cover throughout the event.
RACE 7: Citrus Clean Benchmark 67 Handicap 1600m
Billy Can – eased out of the race by rider G Buckley from the 700m and subsequently collapsed on straightening. Billy Can was transported to the University Teaching Hospital Camden for a necropsy. The inquiry was adjourned until such time as the results of the necropsy are forwarded to the Stewards. Trainer Mr A Kehoe was asked to provide his veterinary and treatment records for the gelding.
RACE 8: Clean N Care Class 2 Handicap 1200m
Picardy Rose – slow to begin and then shortly after the start was hampered by Privily, which shifted out. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
Mr Tindall – from its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners in the early stages.
Privily – hung in under pressure over the final 400m and was unable to be fully tested in the straight. Trainer Mr J Austin was advised Privily would be required barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again.
County Crown – When questioned regarding the performance, rider R Murray stated that, as she felt her mount was at its top from the 400m and was not improving, she desisted from riding her mount out in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare, which was beaten 30 lengths, did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr S Thomas was advised that County Crown would now be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again.
