The Chris Waller stable has provided 10 of the 14 nominations for the $250,000, Group 2 WFA Apollo Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on Saturday including world champion mare Winx.
Winx is resuming for a new campaign after her record breaking fourth victory in the Group 1 WS Cox Plate over 2040m at The Valley last October. Should the seven-year-old mare continue her winning ways she will be winning for the 34th time and 30th in succession.
The mare galloped at Randwick last Saturday morning in preparation for the Apollo Stakes, the first of what is expected to be four races through the Sydney autumn.
The other Waller stable runners nominated are Brimham Rocks (GB), Egg Tart, Endless Drama (IRE), McCreery (GB), Noire, Patrick Erin (NZ), Tom Melbourne (IRE) and Unforgotten.
The outside nominations are Pat Webster’s Happy Clapper, Kris Lee’s Le Romain and the Maher and Eustace runners Aloisia (NZ) and Mask Of Time (IRE).
Winx has opened at $1.12 with TAB.com.au with Happy Clapper on $11.00, Le Romain $15.00, Unforgotten $26.00 and $51 plus for the rest.
Nominations are extended for the Apollo Stakes as they are for the $200,000, Group 1 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) for which 16 three-year-old fillies were nominated for on Monday.
The Course Proper is rated a Soft 5 on Monday after 4mm of irrigation in the last 24 hours and the rail will be out 3m for the entire circuit.
Sydney’s weather this week is sunny with 37c forecast for Tuesday and then 26c through to 27c on Friday. Saturday’s forecast is for a partly cloudy day and 20c – 26c
