Sunday meeting Preview, selections, comments and odds
Is TANNHAUSER a one-track wonder?
That is the question buzzing round the coffee shops in Singapore as the boom Poly sprinter has another crack on the turf.
It is well documented that the Michael Clement-trained 4YO was unplaced at his race debut on the turf before winning his next start on the all-weather by nine lengths.
A star was born and the hype was justified when he won his next three on the Poly before having excuses (roarer) when being beaten out of the places last start.
Forgive that run and consider the fact he was green at his debut turf effort and TANNHAUSER can step up to the plate and get back into the winners circle in what is a very good Class 2 field over 1200m (race 9).
Elsewhere on the card, PAPARAZZI carried 58kg when winning with ease in Novice Company last start and the 4YO looks well placed to win again in Class 3 Company with 56.5kg and John Powell retaining the ride.
Those looking for some value may want to wait until the lucky last as HAYTHAM’s form is better than it looks in the race book and can win with the switch to a senior rider in Vlad Duric a big factor.
Best Bets: (PAPARAZZI race 7, win), (MAGIC WAND race 8, each-way) and (HAYTHAM race 10, value).
Bankers for Jackpots: Race 7 (1 and 2), race 8 (4, 5, 8 and 11), race 9 (2, 4, 5, 7 and 10) and race 10 (2, 3 and 5).

Selections; 8 MARGAUX - 1 DICAPRIO - 5 ROCKET FIGHTER - 3 OBSTACLES FREE
An extremely weak Class 5 with no horse having more than one win on turf and only two horses having more than one career win. MARGAUX weakened last start but placed at her previous two outings in this company; her only win was at 1400m on turf and she should get a good run throughout. DICAPRIO's only win was on turf at this distance, he battled away last start on the poly in a non-premier grade Class 4 and could improve in this weaker company. ROCKET FIGHTER fought on two starts back over 1400m in this class; he is yet to place in 11 outings but is well drawn and could benefit from a positive ride. The rest have very little to recommend them. Betting strategy - MARGAUX looks the most likely.
1 DICAPRIO *** Battled away last start on poly in Class 4 non-premier. Only win was on turf at this distance and could improve. 3.50
2 GOLDEN SPARK * Battling at recent outings and yet to place on turf in six tries. 20
3 OBSTACLES FREE ** Led before being run down on poly last start. Only placing in 12 starts was on poly but could benefit from a positive ride in this weak field. 20
4 SUN SEEKER * Only win was well over two years ago and that was before arrival in Singapore. Not far away on poly two starts back and has placed at this trip in KSD company but needs to improve. 20
5 ROCKET FIGHTER *** Fought on two starts back over 1400m in this class. Yet to place in 11 outings but well drawn and could benefit from a positive ride. 3.50
6 THOTH WARRIOR * Has shown nothing in nine starts. 33
7 SIMPANG * Only battled when resuming. Won on poly two starts back in this class but has yet to place in 28 turf outings. 25
8 MARGAUX *** Weakened last start but placed at previous two outings in this company. Only win was at 1400m on turf and should get a good run throughout. 3.00
9 GOOD BET * Resuming. Only placing in 25 starts was on poly. Tested. 33
10 SECONDWAVE ** 9YO who ran on well when resuming. Only win was nearly three years ago but should get a good run throughout. 7.00
Selections; 1 KRANJI GOLD - 10 BIG WAVE - 9 OVERSEER - 3 ZULU WARRIOR
A Restricted Maiden of only moderate depth. KRANJI GOLD ran a bold race before being run down last start. Blinkers come off and with Michael Rodd staying on he should be hard to pass. The main dangers are horses that had support and disappointed at their most recent outing. AUSPICIOUS DAY only battled when resuming but should be fitter while ZULU WARRIOR gets Vlad Duric back in the saddle and he can improve. BIG WAVE gave a bold sight last start and was run down late; he is improving with racing and gets a senior rider in Ryan Curatolo and could be hard to pass. Of the others, OVERSEER was caught wide and battled away last start when wearing blinkers first time; he is improving and should be handy throughout while SKYDANCE ECLIPSE and HENG KINGDOM can be considered for exotics. Betting strategy - KRANJI GOLD win, saver on OVERSEER.
1 KRANJI GOLD *** Ran a bold race before being run down last start. Blinkers come off and with Michael Rodd staying on should be hard to pass. 3.50
2 AUSPICIOUS DAY *** Had support and disappointed last start. Previous efforts sound and should be running on. 5.00
3 ZULU WARRIOR *** Also had support and only battled last start this trip. Placed at previous start and with Vlad Duric back on can improve. 5.00
4 GINGERMAN * Has only battled at three outings to date. Trial was fair but needs to improve. 33
5 HENG KINGDOM ** Made some ground late last start and could improve at odds with blinkers added. 14
6 EINSTEIN'S CROSS ** Well back at debut but looked OK at the trials prior and should improve with experience. 33
7 SKYDANCE ECLIPSE * Not far away at debut but disappointed after being checked at 1000m last start. Could be running on. 14
8 SONNY BILL * Well back at debut and needs to improve. 50
9 OVERSEER *** Was caught wide and battled away last start when wearing blinkers first time. Improving and worth an each-way look. 8.00
10 BIG WAVE *** Gave a bold sight last start and was run down late. Improving with racing and gets senior rider. Could be hard to pass. 6.00
11 MAJESTIC ** Never involved on debut from wide gate and will improve with more positive ride. 33
12 LADY COUNSEL ** Debuted solidly and has trialled since. Can improve from good gate. 14
Selections; 1 MILLENNIUM'S RULE - 7 FIGHTING WARRIOR - 6 JUSTICE GRACE - 4 RICH BEAUTY
A non-premier Class 4 with quite a few chances. MILLENIUM'S RULE got a nice run throughout and capitalised on rails run to win last start in this class; he only rises 1kg and should get a good run throughout and be hard to hold out. The danger is FIGHTING WARRIOR who has had excuses at his last two starts and blinkers go back on; his preferred trip is 1400m but he should be running on. Of the rest, JACKS SECRET was prominent and fought on strongly over 1400m in this grade last start and should be prominent, JUSTICE GRACE was not far away last start in a Class 4 when resuming and might find this easier while RICH BEAUTY is the improver with blinkers added. For the exotics include MARVEL HERO and WONDERFUL ERA. Betting strategy - MILLENIUM'S RULE/FIGHTING WARRIOR swinger forecast.
1 MILLENNIUM'S RULE *** Got a nice run throughout and capitalised on rails run to win well last start in this class and hard to hold out again. 4.00
2 WONDERFUL ERA ** Charged home late over this trip last start on poly. Better on that surface but could be closing late. 7.00
3 MARVEL HERO ** Caught wide but only battled last start when wearing blinkers. Could improve for Michael Rodd. 7.00
4 RICH BEAUTY *** Has only battled since arrived but won over this trip in Victoria and could improve with blinkers. Market watch. 12
5 JACKS SECRET *** Was prominent and fought on strongly over 1400m in this grade last start. Has placed two of three at this trip and should be prominent. 5.00
6 JUSTICE GRACE *** Not far way over 1200m when resuming and better suited over the mile. Value. 5.00
7 FIGHTING WARRIOR *** Looked a good thing beaten last start with traffic excuses over 1400m. Gets blinkers and should be prominent throughout. 5.00
8 SATELLITE STAR * Found 2000m too tough last start after Class 5 win. Better suited this trip ad with no weight can be handy throughout. 20
9 MASURAO * Has only battled at recent starts and needs Class 5. 33
Selections; 1 COUNTRY BOSS - 2 LIBECCIO - 5 TRIGAMY - 3 SILVER SKY
A couple of these have been knocking on the door and one will get the chance to break through. COUNTRY BOSS has been nailed late at his past two outings the most recent in Class 4; he will find this much easier and gets another chance to break through. LIBECCIO has placed at nine of 14 turf outings, Zawari stays on and he should get a good run throughout. They look the to two but the blinker pacifiers come off TRIGAMY and his recent trial was strong; he has placed twice on turf and could improve on his recent moderate form. Betting strategy - COUNTRY BOSS win, couple with LIBECCIO in any exotic combinations.
1 COUNTRY BOSS *** Has been nailed late at past two outings the most recent in Class 4. Gets another chance to break through. 1.80
2 LIBECCIO *** Has placed at nine of 14 turf outings. Zawari stays on and should get a good run throughout. 2.70
3 SILVER SKY * Blinkers to visor and tongue-tie off after just battling last start but can improve. 25
4 SILVER WIN FORTUNE * Resuming sans blinkers. Has had numerous trials but has shown little to date. 33
5 TRIGAMY ** Form moderate but blinker pacifiers come off and recent trial was strong. Has placed twice on turf and could improve. 6.00
6 OCEAN MASTER * Has six placings on poly but none in five starts on turf so take on trust. 12
7 LIM'S ONFIRE * Japanese-bred by On Fire. Trials have been moderate. Watch market. 33
8 HALLELUJAH * Yet to place in 6 starts. 50
Selections; 1 HIMALAYA DRAGON - 5 GRAN TORINO - 2 UNCONQUERED - 8 CRAZY DREAMS
Some speedy customers in this Class 3 Poly dash. HIMALAYA DRAGON got a nice run but finished powerfully to win in this class last start; she rises 1kg but should get a good run again. UNCONQUERED battled on but was well-beaten last start in this class; he is suited by this trip and should be prominent. There are also a couple of smart ones resuming who can make their presence felt. GRAN TORINO has trialled well, showed promise earlier and has plenty of speed; he will give a sight from the number one gate. Of the rest, CRAZY DREAMS will find this easier than last start, LIM'S SINCERE can show up fresh while SILKINO is always a show on the Poly. Betting strategy - HIMALAYA DRAGON can win again.
1 HIMALAYA DRAGON *** Got a nice run but finished powerfully to win in this class last start, Rises 1kg but should get a good run again. 3.00
2 UNCONQUERED *** Battled on but well beaten but last start in this class. Should be prominent. 3.00
3 SECRET MISSION * Hasn't won for over two years and recent form poor. 50
4 DUTY FIRST ** Resuming after bleeding attack and change of stables. Loves the Poly and can include in exotics. 50
5 GRAN TORINO *** Resuming and trialled well. Showed promise earlier and has plenty of speed. Will give a sight from the number one gate. 4.00
6 HOST THE NATION * Won Class 4 over this trip two starts back. Not the most reliable but could be running on. 25
7 LIM'S SINCERE ** In form, has plenty of speed and likes this trip. Could show up fresh. 7.00
8 CRAZY DREAMS *** Will find this easier than last start and goes very close on best form. 33
9 SILKINO ** Caught wide and never likely last start and always a show in races like this. 12
10 MONTAIGNE * Unsighted last couple and may need easier. 20
Selections; 1 THE ONE - 3 AEOLUS - 7 KASHAN - 2 FORTUNE SPIRIT
Another very weak Class 5 over 1600m on the poly. THE ONE's only win was at this trip and had plenty of excuses last start so worth another look on form prior. AEOLUS is yet to win but has placed at his past two outings and this distance suits. He also gets blinkers and gets a chance to break through. KASHAN is backing up quickly and finds it hard to win but has finished in the top four at his past three outings and should be running on. Nothing else appeals although FORTUNE SPIRIT has only battled since resuming but is suited by this class and distance and can improve. Betting strategy - THE ONE win.
1 THE ONE *** Excuses last start, only win was this trip and goes close with luck from wide gate. 4.00
2 FORTUNE SPIRIT ** Has only battled since winning this trip on the turf four starts back and have to take on trust. 4.00
3 AEOLUS *** Yet to win but has placed at past two outings and this distance suits. Gets a chance to break through with blinkers added. 4.00
4 MUSCULAR CAPTAIN * Has struggled at recent outings. Only win was at this trip but on turf. 12
5 ALWAYS THERE * Yet to place in 12 starts. Needs to improve. 33
6 MOON RIVER * Only battled last start but previous two efforts over 1700m were sound. Could be running on. 10
7 KASHAN *** Backing up quickly. Finds it hard to win but has finished top four at past three outings and should be running on. 4.00
8 PURE WHITE * 50 start maiden who gets blinkers. Can be prominent. 33
9 BALKAN CHALLENGER * Managed a career best 4th four starts back but has reverted to type since. 33
10 SILENT CONNECTION * Has placed only once in 28 starts and recent efforts moderate. 33
Selections; 2 PAPARAZZI - 1 LIM'S ROYAL - 3 GARIZA - 6 LIM'S DASHING
A good quality Class 3 with a pair of smart performers involved. PAPARAZZI outclassed a Novice field last start, is promising and, despite taking on strong field here, he should be hard to beat. The other promising one is LIM'S ROYAL who ran on when favourite in this class last start back in November. He races first up with winkers and has trialled well; he should be hard to hold off. Of the rest, GARIZA is another resuming and could show up fresh for Michael Rodd while LIM'S DASHING is also resuming and has first up form. Keep JUSTICE LIGHT safe as he is better suited on turf and should get a good run throughout with Vlad Duric to ride. For the exotics include MORITZ ECLIPSE and MELTING POINT. Betting strategy - PAPARAZZI win.
1 LIM'S ROYAL *** Resuming with winkers and trialled well. Ran on when favourite in this class last start. Promising and should be running on. 2.50
2 PAPARAZZI *** Outclassed Novice field last start. Promising and despite taking on strong class should be hard to beat. 2.50
3 GARIZA ** Resuming after bleeding attack. Was battling in this class last preparation but trialled well and could show up fresh for Michael Rodd. 8.00
4 JUSTICE LIGHT ** Has only battled since resuming but better suited on turf. Should get a good run throughout with Vlad Duric to ride. 6.00
5 MORITZ ECLIPSE ** Not far away when resuming. Suited this distance and could improve. 16
6 LIM'S DASHING ** Resuming with quiet trials under his belt. Has first up form in similar affairs to this so keep safe. 20
7 MELTING POINT ** Battled last start on the Poly and blinkers come off. May need Class 4 but will be competitive. 25
8 TALES OF SUMMER * Finds it hard to win and might need easier. 33
9 LIM'S BLAST * Won narrowly in Class 4 last start. This is harder and better on poly. 33
Selections; 8 MAGIC WAND - 5 STUNNING CAT - 4 LEGENDARY SUN - 11 SACRED SURFER
A tough race to line up the form with some Class droppers likely to improve, a couple of handy types resuming who can also improve, a last start winner plus a 3YO who gets blinkers having his first start on the Poly who can rebound from a shocker. MAGIC WAND is the horse that gets blinkers added to his gear and the Ricky Le Grange-trained gelding has trialled well enough to think he can put a disappointing run behind him and show his best from gate 1. STUNNING CAT is the last start winner and that was at his Singapore debut. The 3YO should more than handle the Poly on trial form and should figure in the mix again. LEGENDARY SUN who bled last start and SACRED SURFER are the two resuming who goes close in what is a suitable race while ELITE GENERAL and KNIGHT WAGER can improve in Class 4. Betting Strategy - MAGIC WAND win, saver on LEGENDARY SUN.
1 AMAZING MAN ** Back in trip after a good run of form but should be prominent from the gate and in the mix. 6.00
2 ELITE GENERAL ** Recent form fair at best but OK late last start and will find this Company to his liking so can improve. 20
3 KNIGHT WAGER ** Hasn't won since 2015 but has been running on and can figure in exotics in this Company. 20
4 LEGENDARY SUN *** Resuming after bleeding attack and recent trial good enough to think he can win this. 6.00
5 STUNNING CAT *** Won in a blanket go at Singapore debut on the turf with support and should handle the Poly. Goes close. 3.00
6 THE COSMOS ** Recent form a concern but usually competitive in Poly sprints and will improve in this Class. 20
7 LIM'S ELUSIVE ** Ran on well enough last in similar affair to keep safe in this field. 8.00
8 MAGIC WAND *** Disappointing last start with support but gets blinkers and trails like he can win at his first start on the Poly. 4.00
9 ROYAL FORTUNE * Struggling. 100
10 REACH FOR THE SUN * Not for me. 100
11 SACRED SURFER *** Resuming and trials like he will handle the Poly and can show up with Duric to ride. 12
Selections; 2 TANNHAUSER - 7 BAO SHAN MAGIC - 10 SIR ISAAC - 5 DARC BOUNTY
The big questions in this Class 2 turf sprint is whether or not TANNHAUSER is a Poly specialist and is the roaring episode a one-off. The boom 4YO was unplaced on the turf on debut before winning his next four races straight on the Poly (his maiden win by nine lengths!). He returned a roarer when unplaced as the odds-on favourite last start but that may be a blessing in disguise as he gets to show he can handle the turf in this good field and go onto feature races on both tracks in the future. It is a good test though with BAO SHAN MAGIC very much appreciating being back on the turf, SIR ISAAC ready to show he is up to Open Company, DARC BOUNTY likely to give a sight and last start winner, CHALAZA, always the benchmark. Go even wider in exotics. Betting Strategy - TANNHAUSER win, saver on BAO SHAN MAGIC if value.
1 MIGHTY CONQUEROR ** Not a mile away last start on the Poly at odds and handles the turf and can include in skinny end of exotics. 33
2 TANNHAUSER *** Poly bubble burst last start when he returned a roarer but should handle the turf with race experience a factor and hard to beat. 3.00
3 POLE PARADISE ** Another who wasn't a mile away last start on the Poly and handles the turf so can include at long odds. 33
4 CHALAZA *** Turned some good form into an overdue win last start and pay to follow. 4.00
5 DARC BOUNTY *** Improved effort last start and has a good turf record and in this a long way from the ace. 8.00
6 FLAK JACKET ** Nothing last start over 1400m but previous form over this trip in good company has him under notice. 15
7 BAO SHAN MAGIC *** Just battled on the Poly last start but better suited here and knows how to win. 6.00
8 DREAM COMES TRUE ** Coming off a shocker but jockey did report issues (no finding) so worth another look on form prior. 33
9 BRAHMA CIRCUS ** Knocked in a well-deserved victory over 1400m last start but not the type to win out of turn. 12
10 SIR ISAAC *** Has been running on well in Class 3 and his recent trial suggests he will go well fresh in a race that suits. 6.00
11 SANDTOP * Easier to ignore. 100
Selections; 3 HAYTHAM - 2 RUM N RAISINS - 5 THE GOLDEN GOAT - 6 KNIGHT CHEN BAY
Not a lot of depth to this Class 4 Poly sprint and as such an improver in HAYTHAM gets his chance. The 4YO doesn't win out of turn and hasn't won past 1100m but has had excuses for the poor results of late and given he gets a senior hoop (and a good one at that in V Duric), he could be hard to hold out. Another improver is THE GOLDEN GOAT. The 5YO's only win was this trip and ran on well enough late last start to think he has something to offer in this field. The obvious pick and likely favourite is last start winner, RUM N RAISINS. He comes off a nice win in a similar affair and, from gate 1 with Benny Woodworth retaining the winning ride, he could be hardest to beat. Nothing else jumps off the page but KNIGHT CHEN BAY gets blinkers off the back of a good trial and HONOR is in the mix with luck needed from the wide gate. Betting Strategy - HAYTHAM each-way.
1 PEGASUS JUNIOR * Freshened but form hopeless and need longer than this. 100
2 RUM N RAISINS *** Won well in a similar affair with a similar weight last start and pay to follow with gate 1 a bonus. 3.00
3 HAYTHAM *** Form better than it reads and looked to have something in the tank last start and gets his chance here. 4.00
4 MAJULAH ** Always in the mix and handles the Poly so worth thought with blinkers off. 12
5 THE GOLDEN GOAT *** Ran on well last start and only win was this trip so pay to respect at each way value. 6.00
6 KNIGHT CHEN BAY ** Yet to win on the Poly but gets blinkers and trialled well with headgear so keep safe. 20
7 HONOR ** Never likely before running on well to place over 1100m last start and can consider although wide gate a concern. 6.00
8 APOLLO * Resuming and prefer on the turf. 50
9 TURQUOISE SON ** Fair effort last start considering he returned not striding and worth another look on form prior. 8.00
10 YELLOW JADE HORSE * Blinkers off but struggles as a rule. 100
11 LUCKY BOY ** May need easier to win but honest enough to include in exotics. 12
12 SOLITAIRE * Struggling. 50
