He said that when he observed a position with cover available behind Andaz he elected to trail that runner but then soon after Don't Give A Damn commenced to race keenly. He further added that leaving the 1000m when Level Eight shifted out, Don't Give A Damn was taken three wide where it raced without cover from that point. He further added that Don’t Give A Damn continued to race on the same lead leg throughout the middle and it was not until near the 100m that the gelding changed stride and felt more comfortable in its action. T Angland further added in all the circumstances, mainly, that the gelding was carrying 64kgs the run of Don't Give A Damn was full of merit. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Renewal – Rider T Berry reported that Renewal was fractious in the barriers, missed the start and shortly after had to be checked when crowded between Voilier and Level Eight. He added that when under pressure in the straight he initially raced in restricted room to the inside of Volpe and after securing clear running near the 200m Renewal commenced to lay out. He further added that close to winning post he was obliged to stop riding when Renewal continued to hang out and All Too Huiying shifted back in towards his mount, which resulted in Renewal being placed in restricted room.

Prior to the declaration of correct weight connections gave consideration to whether they had grounds for an objection against Tarka being declared the winner due to interference suffered by the colt in the early part of the straight. Connections were satisfied that there were no grounds for an objection and when the Stewards were also satisfied, correct weight was declared. Leaving the 600m The Autumn Sun became held up on the back of Master Ash and on straightening attempted to improve between Master Ash and Tarka where there was insufficient room to do so. As a consequence, The Autumn Sun made contact with Tarka resulting in both runners becoming unbalanced and approaching the 300m The Autumn Sun having to be checked when disappointed between Master Ash and Tarka. K McEvoy was advised he must ensure when he improves into a run there is sufficient room to do so.

Master Ash – Approaching the 200m was inconvenienced by Tarka (J McDonald) which shifted out when under pressure. J McDonald was advised to exercise more care. He added when in the straight and under pressure Master Ash dipped on a number of occasions and weakened due to its failure to handle the track condition. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Co-trainer Mr A Bott concurred with the views of T Berry and was asked to report back on the post-race condition of Master Ash in the days subsequent.

Danawi – Trainer Mr T Martin was fined the sum of $100 under for AR124 presenting the colt in the enclosure after the prescribed time. Mr Martin undertook to report back on the condition of Danawi in the days subsequent.

A short distance later when continuing to be steadied from the heels of Nuclear Blitz, Legend Of Condor improved to the inside of Zousain which resulted in Legend Of Condor being taken in and crowding the running of Long Leaf which had to steadied. Raiment – When questioned regarding his riding G Schofield advised from his wide barrier he had been instructed to take up a position towards the rear of the field to ensure the mare obtained cover. He said from its outside barrier in accordance to his instructions he commenced to ease the mare soon after the start but when Eckstein which was positioned to his inside was being ridden in a similar manner, whilst being positioned wide on the track, he was obliged to restrain his mount further back to ensure he obtained cover in accordance with his instructions. He further added that this resulted in Raiment settling much further back than he had anticipated. Zestful was then steadied by its rider B Prebble when shifting in slightly resulting in Formality which was following having to be checked from the heels of Zestful. In this incident Perizada and Noire were also checked as a consequence. J McDonald was reprimanded under AR137(a) and advised he must exercise more care when shifting ground.
