RACE 1:  Tab Highway Handicap 1000m

Equal Balance – Slow to begin.

Rhyming Puppet – Rider J Collet could offer no excuse for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be slow to recover. Trainer Mr N Olive was advised to report back on the post-race condition of Rhyming Puppet in the days subsequent.

Bocelli – Slow to begin. When questioned regarding the performance rider C Brown explained that he had to make some use of the gelding in the early stages to hold a forward position adding that the gelding was under pressure leaving the 600m. He added that in his view Bocelli was looking for additional ground where it could travel comfortably which would enable it to finish the race off. Near the 600m Caccini and Bocelli were hampered when crowded by Prince Planet (B El-Issa) which shifted in. B El-Issa was advised to exercise more care. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Ms T Burleigh concurred with the views of C Brown and advised that the gelding would be stepping up in distance for its next race start.

Lifesaver – Began only fairly and from the outside barrier was then shifted in behind runners in the early stages.

Lord Denman – Raced wide and without cover from the 600m. Near the 800m was steadied to avoid the heels of Prince Planet (B El-Issa) which shifted in when not quite clear. B El-Issa was advised to make sure he's sufficiently clear when shifting ground.

Our Rosemaree – Slow to begin.

RACE 2:  Schweppes Heritage Stakes 1100m (Listed)

Santos – When questioned rider H Bowman stated that after trailing Omar and Neutrality soon after straightening he shifted out to follow Neutrality but then became badly held up on the heels of that runner when Charge, which was positioned to his outside and in advance of his mount held a tight line to the outside of Neutrality. He added that Santos continued to be held up until near the 150m where he observed a tight run develop between Neutrality and Charge however inside the 100m the run closed, and Santos was not able to be tested for the remainder of the event. Stewards accepted the evidence of H Bowman that he was not in a position to shift to obtain running to the outside of Neutrality soon after straightening given his position on the track when racing behind Charge.

Neutrality – Bumped on jumping by Omar which shifted in.

Charge – Hampered on jumping by Hoges which shifted out.

Ragged Rascal – Crowded on jumping between Meryl and Charge, which was taken out by Hoges.

Omar – Began awkwardly, shifted in making contact with Neutrality and became unbalanced. When questioned regarding the performance rider J Innes advised that the gelding made a respiratory noise during the running of the race however he was not overly concerned as the gelding had made similar breathing noises in the past. He added in his view the gelding whilst it may not have handled the step up in grade, raced like it had come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr G Ryan confirmed that Omar would now be spelled

Prophet's Thumb – Slow to begin (2L)

RACE 3:  Shoot Out Mile 1600m

Luvaluva – Near the 50m was steadied when crowded between Instant De Reve which shifted in slightly and Another Dollar (K McEvoy) which shifted out. K McEvoy was reprimanded and advised to ensure he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground. Rider B Ryan advised that the mare travelled strongly in the run, secured clear running at the 300m but disappointed in its failure to run on. He added that when under pressure in the straight Luvaluva was inclined to lay out. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Old North – Slow to begin. Overraced in the early and middle stages. In the early part of the straight, proved reluctant to proceed to the inside of Souchez and then near the 200m Old North which was commencing to close the race off fairly was shifted to the outside of Souchez to continue into clear running. Close to the winning post Old North was steadied when awkwardly placed between Souchez and Drochaid both of which shifted marginally.

Muraaqeb – Blundered shortly after the start.

Another Dollar – Consideration was given to an objection lodged by K McEvoy rider of 3rd placegetter Another Dollar against Goodfella (A Hyeronimus) being declared 2nd, alleging interference near the 300m. After considering the evidence Stewards found that soon after straightening Goodfella shifted out which resulted in Another Dollar improving to that runners inside and establishing clear running. Near the 300m Goodfella then shifted in when not clear of Another Dollar resulting in Another Dollar having to be steadied, losing the running it had established and being shifted to the outside of Goodfella. Having considered the manner in which both horses finished the race off Stewards upheld the objection when they were satisfied that had the interference not occurred Another Dollar would have finished in advance of Goodfella and amended the placings to read.

1st) Muraaqeb

2nd) Another Dollar

3rd) Goodfella

4th) Souchez

At a subsequent inquiry A Hyeronimus (Goodfella) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a). A Hyeronimus's license to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Wednesday 19 September 2018 and to expire on Monday 24 September 2018 on which day he may ride.

Brave Smash – Slow to begin. Between the 350m and 200m was held up for clear running

The Monstar – Bumped on jumping by Invincible Star.

English – En-route to the barriers lost its near fore plate and English was then re plated behind the barriers. English was examined by the Club's Veterinary Officer and was deemed suitable to race. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance rider T Clark reported that the mare became unsettled when being replated behind the barriers. He added that English travelled well in the run and commenced to make ground when asked for an effort in the early part of the straight before, in his opinion, the condition of the mare gave out. In his view English would obtain a fitness benefit from today's run. A post-race veterinary examination immediately after the race and after being swabbed revealed no abnormalities. Co trainer Mr A Bott concurred with the views of T Clark and undertook to report back on the progress of the mare in the days subsequent.

Invincible Star – Rider J McDonald stated that the mare was fractious in the gates, jumped awkwardly and consequently was slow to begin. He added that his intention was to be more forward but due to the antics of the mare at the start he was obliged to take a trailing position. Near the 900m Invincible Star was steadied from the heels of Ball Of Muscle (G Schofield) which shifted in. G Schofield was advised to ensure he is sufficiently clear when crossing.

RACE 5:  Bill Ritchie Handicap 1400m (Group 3)

Leaving the 500m Fundamentalist endeavoured to shift to the outside of Madam Rogue in an attempt to commence to improve. As Fundamentalist commenced this manoeuvre, Oohood held its position three-wide which resulted in Fundamentalist having to be steadied and shifted back in when disappointed for clear running. In this incident Outback Barbie had to be checked when after improving to the inside of Fundamentalist was crowded between that runner and Miss Fabulass (K McEvoy) which shifted out. Whilst Stewards accepted that K McEvoy had anticipated Fundamentalist would obtain a run to the outside of Madam Rogue he was advised he must ensure he exercise due care when shifting ground.

Pretty In Pink – Slow to begin. From wide barrier was shifted in behind runners in the early stages

Fundamentalist – Began awkwardly.

He added the decision to do so was validated when Symi shifted out at the same point. J Parr added that in the straight after being briefly held up in the early stages Maid Of Heaven was able to secure clear running near the 250m where it finished the race off strongly.

In this incident Salsonic made contact with Big Duke which was forced wider on the track. It was established that as the start was effected Manhattan Mist got its off-hind leg on the running board of its barrier which resulted in the gelding blundering badly and losing ground (3L). As Stewards were satisfied the occurrence happened as the start was affected, the gelding was declared a starter. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Single Bullet – Overraced in the middle stages. On straightening was held up when awkwardly placed on the heels of Isorich.
