The wagering review of Saturday's fixed odds betting for races at Rosehill, Flemington, Doomben black type races, The Goodwood at Morphettville and Futures markets.


Race 1:                  Favourite punters were left lamenting after the big plunge on Press Box went astray
                                The unplaced favourite was backed from $2.30 into $1.80 on raceday
                                Press Box held three-quarters of the money placed including one bet of $18,000 at $1.80
                                Ronstar eased ($5.50-$8) with River Bird ($10-$14) and Canyonero ($5.50-$7) minor placegetters

Race 2:                  In a bunched finish, Lisdoonvarna ($6-$6.50-$5.50 on raceday) held off the challengers
                                Runner-up Seaway – who eased as favourite from $3.20 to $3.50 – flashed home in vain
                                Gaulois finished third and was solid around the $5.50-$6 mark on raceday (closed $5.50)

Race 3:                  Epidemic enjoyed the early speed battle and was able to overpower her rivals
                                Epidemic held just over 50 percent of money placed and closed $2.80 favourite
                                Runner-up Charlayne drifted on raceday from $3.60 to $4.60
                                The third placegetter was Easy Eddie (as short as $5.50 to $6.50)
                                Curdled – who was unplaced – firmed late from $5.50 to $4.60

Race 4:                  Coup De Main dampened the spirits of favourite punters after Dia De Reyes saluted
                                Coup De Main was backed from $3.20 on Wednesday into $2.40 (was as short as $2.10)
                                Dia De Reyes hovered around the $8.50-$9 mark for the majority of raceday betting (closed $9)
                                The third placed Bocelli was solid around the $3-$3.20 mark (closed $3.20)
                                The unplaced Marco Man was supported on raceday from $8 to $6

Race 5:                  Favourite punters left the money in the bag with the well backed Roman Son failing to place
                                Roman Son opened $2.10 on Wednesday, touched $1.70 on raceday and closed $1.75
                                Three-quarters of the money placed was for Roman Son including a $15,000 wager at $1.70
                                The Getaway was friendless in betting ($26 out to $41 on raceday)
                                Runner-up Naval Warfare ($21-$15) and the third place Araaja ($14-$10) were specked

Race 6:                  Manolo Blahniq was heavily backed late, but Albumin defied the drift to salute
                                Albumin was a $2.60 favourite on race morning before easing to a $4 second elect
                                The third placed Manolo Blahniq was backed from $5.50 to $3.50 favourite on raceday
                                Runner-up Oriental Runner – who was fancied until raceday – was $3.40 to $5.50               

Race 7:                  In a deceptive finish, King Darci deflated the supporters of the well backed Special Missile
                                King Darci was unwanted in raceday betting easing from $13 to $16
                                Runner-up Special Missile was supported from $3.40 into $3 including an $8,000 bet at $3
                                Up ‘n’ Rolling – who finished third – shortened from $3.80 into $2.70 on raceday

Race 8:                  I Am Serious gave favourite punters reason to celebrate with a strong win
                                I Am Serious was popular throughout raceday betting around $3.50-$3.70 (closed $3.50)
                                Runner-up La Chica Bella eased late ($8.50-$10) despite a $7,000 bet at $9.50
                                Third placegetter Princess Posh was $7 into $6 before closing $6.50
                                Hay Now was backed from $17 on race morning into $6 but didn’t figure in the placings

Race 9:                  A tough day was punctuated by the upset win of Missile Coda in the last race
                                Missile Coda was as much as $17 on race morning before closing a $15 chance
                                Runner-up Dissolute was backed from $12 into as short as $7.50 before closing $9
                                Third placegetter Star Reflection hovered around the $13-$15 mark (closed $13)
                                Noire ($2.50-$2.90-$2.70 favourite) and Bon Amis ($5-$4.40-$4.60) were unplaced


Race 1:                  Vassilator showed his last start win was no fluke despite easing in betting on raceday
                                Vassilator got into as short as $3.60 before starting a $4.40 second elect
                                Eventual favourite Bronski Beat – who was unplaced – started $3.70 after touching $3.20
                                Mirette ($7.50-$9) and Zoutori ($17) were the minor placegetters

Race 2:                  Grey Shadow – who held half of the money placed – wasn’t able to reward favourite punters
                                Grey Shadow was popular around the $3.60-$3.80 mark (closed $3.70)
                                Egyptian Bullet was specked late from as much as $23 into $19
                                Tarcoola Spirit ($15) and Island Daze ($13) were the minor placegetters
Race 3:                  Favourite punters let out a sigh of relief when Éclair Calling just held off Boxachocolates
                                Éclair Calling opened $3.20 on Wednesday, was as short as $2.50, and closed $2.70
                                Éclair Calling accounted for 60 percent of the money wagered on this race
                                The unplaced Another Bullseye was the other galloper to attract support (closed $4)
                                Boxachocolates ($11) and Guizot ($11) were the minor placegetters

Race 4:                  Jaminzah landed a reasonable plunge after firming from $13 to $7.50 on raceday
                                The $5 equal favourites, Quick Defence and Jake’s Hill, both finished out of the placings
                                Jake’s Hill opened $9 on Wednesday and got into as short as $4.60
                                Quick Defence drifted from an opening price of $4.60 before hitting as much as $6
                                Four By Four ($11-$9.50-$11) and Balcazar ($8-$10-$8.50) were the minor placegetters

Race 5:                  The TAB traders took on Boom Time and favourite punters gleefully accepted a bigger price
                                Boom Time was $2.70 on race morning before eventually drifting to $3.40
                                Two-thirds of the support was on Boom Time including an $11,000 bet at $3.20
                                Unplaced Second elect Tarquin tightened late in betting (as much as $6 into $5)
                                My Nordic Hero ($10-$11) and Second Bullet ($8-$10-$8.50) were the minor placegetters

Race 6:                  First Among Equals defied a late betting drift to win The Straight Six
                                After tightening from $7.50 on race morning to $4.80, First Among Equals eased to $6.50
Despite being a popular favourite, Rich Charm was risked by the TAB traders ($2.70-$3.50)
Runner-up Divine Quality ($6.50-$5) had late backing including $5,000 at $5.50/$2.10
The third placed Knowable was specked late from as much as $101 into $61

Race 7:                  In a wide-open affair, Sin To Win held off all comers in the Andrew Ramsden Stakes
                                Sin To Win was easy in betting on raceday from $10 to $13
                                The late rally was for the third placed Chequered Flag ($6.50 into $4.80 favourite)
                                Bets of note on Chequered Flag included $7,000 at $5 and $10,000 at $4.80
                                Runner-up Swacadelic drifted from $8.50 to $10 on raceday
                                After initially opening as favourite, the unplaced Sherlock Holmes had late support at $6.50

Race 8:                  Favourite punters were on good terms with themselves after the win of Moss ‘n’ Dale
                                Moss ‘n’ Dale was well backed on raceday ($5-$3.80 equal favourite) including $5,000 at $3.80
                                Race morning favourite Ken’s Dream drifted from $3.20 to $3.80 and was unplaced
                                Runner-up Rib Eye hovered around the $19-$21 mark (closed $19)
                                So Si Bon – who finished third – was as short as $4.80 out to $6.50 on raceday

Race 9:                  Punters cheered in the last as Iconoclasm continued his good form
                                Iconoclasm opened $2.70 on Wednesday and was $2.40 into $2 on raceday (touched $1.90)
                                One punter placed a $10,320 wager at $1.90 on Iconoclasm
                                Woulda Thought So ($41) and Rossman ($41) were the minor placegetters
                                Groundbreak ($6.50-$8-$7-$7.50) was an unplaced second elect


Race 4:                  Eawase defied the betting drift to easily take out the Bill Carter Stakes
                                Eawase eased from $4.60 to $5.50 but was far too good for her rivals
                                Runner-up Granny Red Shoes was specked ($13-$9 on raceday)
                                Sizzling Belle – who finished third – drifted as favourite from $3.10 to $3.70
                                Shamurt – who was unplaced – was $4.80 into as short as $4 before closing $4.40

Race 5:                  To the chagrin of favourite punters, Gracida nosed out Spurcraft in the Chief De Beers
                                Spurcraft – opened $9 – was backed from $6 into $3.60 on raceday but couldn’t hang on
                                Gracida was $9 on race morning before closing as a $10 chance
                                Tiyatrolani – who finished third – was $8 into $3.60 before raceday, but eased to $5

Race 7:                  I’m A Rippa was strong holding off all challengers to win the BRC Sprint
                                I’m A Rippa landed a good plunge having been backed from $12 to $7 on raceday
                                Runner-up Privlaka eased ($7.50-$9) but one punter did have $11,000 the place at $3
                                Mr Sneaky – who finished third – drifted from as short as $4.60 to $6.50
                                Test The World – an unplaced favourite – blew from $3.20 to $5

Race 8:                  In a stirring duel, Comin’ Through outlasted Egg Tart to win the Doomben Cup
                                Comin’ Through was kept safe and hovered around $9-$10 on raceday (closed $9)
                                Egg Tart would have been a surprise winner having drifted from $11 to $15
                                The unplaced Oregon’s Day was heavily backed with a $13,000 wager at $3.50
                                Oregon’s Day opened $5 on Wednesday and eventually closed a $3.60 favourite
                                Ambitious – who opened a $4 favourite on Wednesday – finished third at $9.50

Race 9:                  In a rough finish to the day for most, Secret Trail won the Bright Shadow Quality
                                Secret Trail hovered around the $17-$19 mark on raceday (closed $18)
                                Runner-up Crystal Fountain was specked at a price ($18 into $11)
                                Third placegetter O’Rachael received raceday support ($11 into $6.50)
                                The unplaced favourite Anatola (anchored in the below Multi) drifted from $1.90 to $2.70
                                $21,250 at $6.20 and $17,200 at $5.82 into Vega Magic in The Goodwood were dashed


Race 7:                  Favourite Vega Magic was nowhere to be seen as Santa Ana Lane won The Goodwood
                                Santa Ana Lane only drifted on raceday from $15 to $26 after opening $13 on Tuesday
                                Runner-up Missrock had specking at a price ($23 into $16)
                                Third placegetter I’ll Have A Bit ($26-$51) provided more value for the exotics
                                Vega Magic was taken on by the TAB traders ($3.10-$4 on raceday; opened $2.60)
                                Viridine ($17-$9) and Handsome Thief ($23-$10) were also unplaced
