RACE 1: Peoplefusion Hunter Stayers Cup – Benchmark 70 Handicap 2900m
It’s A Silvertrail – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be 3/5 lame in the off-foreleg and to have sustained an injury to its near-fore tendon. The racing future of It’s A Silvertrail will be followed up with the stable in the days subsequent.
All Well – A Taylor, rider of 4th placegetter, was reminded of her obligation to ride her mounts out to the finish when in contention. A Taylor was reprimanded under AR137A(5)(a)(i) for using the whip on four successive strikes prior to the 100m.
RACE 2: 65 Roses F&M Benchmark 67 Handicap 1300m
Penalty – a veterinary examination of the mare, which was fractious in the float en route to the course, deemed it suitable to race.
Falsified – overraced for some distance approaching the first turn.
Ultimate Fantasy – held up in the early part of the straight.
Vinnie Power – raced wide and without cover throughout the race. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
Survey’s Legacy – when questioned regarding her tactics in the early and middle stages, W Costin explained that she was mindful of her instructions to be ridden with cover, however, after the mare began well from its wide barrier and she was caught racing four wide in the early stages, she was reluctant to restrain her mount with the slow tempo and as a result took up a position outside the lead.
RACE 3: Just Breathe Maiden Handicap 900m
Directory – as App. R Hunt was indisposed and no other suitable apprentice was available, Stewards permitted J Grisedale to be substituted as the rider. Slow to begin.
Mapili – the filly, which was fractious in the barriers, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was deemed suitable to race.
Black Consul – missed the start (2L).
Asa Hurricane – slow to begin.
Shine Through – began awkwardly and made contact with Apache Dude.
RACE 4: Kalan Memorial Newcastle Nobbys – Benchmark 70 Handicap 900m
Billabong Cindy – began awkwardly and made contact with Table Two.
Kamehameha – slow to begin.
RACE 5: Metroll Maiden Plate 1400m
Amata Sorella – passing the 800m improved onto the heels of Strike List and had to be steadied. Hung out in the middle stages.
Strike List – when the pace slackened approaching the 800m had to be steadied away from the heels of Dragon Li for some distance.
Borazon – raced wide and without cover throughout the race.
Nuclear Burst – when questioned regarding the performance, rider A Gibbons explained that his mount travelled only fairly throughout the event and when placed under pressure from the 500m the gelding did not respond to his riding and was disappointing in the run to the finish. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Stable representative Mr T Bellew undertook to report back.
RACE 6: Wambo Coal CG&E Benchmark 64 Handicap 1300m
Roman Typhoon – crowded on jumping by Jack’s Bar, which shifted out abruptly. Overraced in the middle stages.
Manangatang – began awkwardly and lost ground (2L).
Budawang – hung out rounding the turn from the 600m and then continued to hang out when placed under pressure in the straight.
Jack’s Bar – hung out throughout the race.
Fame Shine – a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
RACE 7: Robson Civil Projects CG&E Maiden Handicap 1200m
Oxford Gem – stable representative Mr T Bellew was reminded of his obligation to report a change of riding tactics no later than half an hour prior to the race. Slow to begin. When questioned regarding the performance, A Gibbons explained his mount pulled hard throughout the early and middle stages and when placed under pressure was inclined to hang in and ran to the finish only fairly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the near-fore cannon.
Forge Ahead – slow to begin.
Kanavu – slow to begin.
Keep On Charging – near the 500m was steadied when crowded for room between Rivalry and Forge Ahead (M Bell), which shifted out marginally. M Bell was told to exercise more care in future.
Netherlands – held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight and near the 300m was disappointed for a run to the inside of Satirical Knight and was checked. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
Kandos Tiger – raced wide and without cover throughout the race.
Rivalry – raced wide and without cover throughout the race.
Eire’s Heir – a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr Singleton was advised that a warning would be placed on the racing record of the colt relative to its poor performance and its near-fore action, which will be monitored at its future race starts.
RACE 8: Sharp Electronics Group Newcastle Gold Cup 14 September F&M Maiden Handicap 1200m
Lamplight Lili – the mare, which dislodged rider P Scorse after leaving the mounting enclosure, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was deemed suitable to race.
Oakfield Romance – slow to begin. Held up in the early part of the straight and when placed under pressure over the final 200m hung in.
Caprice – slow to begin.
Londinium – raced wide and without cover throughout the event. Near the 600m was crowded when taken wider by Lamplight Lili, which was taken out by Mizzi (L Magorrian). L Magorrian was told to exercise more care in future. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
So Very Vein – when questioned regarding the performance, J Penza explaned that he was obliged to shift his mount back in behind runners to obtain cover from the wide barrier, where his mount settled back in the field. He said that the filly travelled well in this position and he was obliged to circle the field making the home turn, where it ran to the line fairly. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
Fabulosa - when questioned regarding the performance, C Reith explained that he was obliged to make some use of his mount from the wide barrier to take up the lead, however, he attempted to settle his mount after establishing the lead near the 1000m. Despite this Fabulosa commenced to race keenly thereafter. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be 1/5 lame in the off-foreleg.
Summary of whip use:
Stewards noted the following riders exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m under AR137A(5)(a)(ii). Bearing in mind the totality of whip use, no action was taken.
