Kranji's Sunday meeting preview

Sunday meeting Preview, selections, comments and odds.

The Jumbo Jet Trophy highlights what is a very good days racing from Singapore and while everyone involved will be hoping for the biggest slice of the $200,000 pie, the race is also a terrific pointer to the bigger features in September, October and November.

So the big guns will be out to flex some serious muscle over the 1400m trip and while not quite the highest rated horse in the field, DEBT COLLECTOR has the runs on the board in big races and has to be a big show at his first run in 2018.

The 2016 Singapore Horse of the Year, DEBT COLLECTOR had a frustrating run in feature races in 2017, which culminated in an unplaced run in the Group 1 Raffles Cup when encountering respiratory issues.

A long spell, a good trial and a suitable first up race suggests he will get support and go well but at the race conditions he will have to give the likes of CIRCUIT LAND - who can win - a 3kg advantage.

MAJESTIC MOMENTS, NOVA STRIKE and CLARTON SUPER are just another three that get in very well at the race conditions and should race well while KINGSMAN with just 51kg is also a show on best form.

Best Bets: (LADRONE race 3, win), (MISTER YEOH race 5, win) and (ACCUMULATION race 2, value).

Bankers for Jackpots: Race 7 (1, 2 and 3), race 8 (1 and 4), race 9 (1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10 and 14) and race 10 (1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8).

Race cards and Larry Foley's synopsis follows and for updates on all runners go to

Please note the odds listed are "reference odds" only.

Race 1

A tough opener given most of these are non-winners and the majority are suspect at the trip. The interesting runner is the four-year-old maiden mare CRACKING TOTTIE who has placed at four of six outings. By So You Think out of an Encosta De Lago mare, she is half-sister to El Segundo who won, amongst others, an Underwood Stakes over 1800m and a Cox Plate over 2040m, both Group Ones. The opposition is far from outstanding with the 9YO KATES KEEPER and the perennial Class 5 DANGER ZONE those with the best form at the trip. Others that could show up are ALWRICH, PARAGON STAR, MOMENT OF JUSTICE and MONEY KING. Betting Strategy - Trust the genetics, CRACKING TOTTIE win.

1 KATE'S KEEPER *** 9YO who hasn't won for a long time but suited this class and distance. With blinkers back on and Matthew Poon to ride could show up. 5.00

2 CRACKING TOTTIE *** Still a Maiden but has placed at four of six starts and breeding suggests this trip could suit. Should get a good run throughout with Michael Rodd to ride. 3.00

3 MOMENT OF JUSTICE ** Suited this class and bred for the trip but has failed at both previous attempts. Will need a good ride from Vlad Duric to overcome wide gate. 7.00

4 ABEBE * Placed over 1600m three starts back but subsequent efforts poor. Failed at only previous try this distance and gate no help. 16

5 ALWRICH ** Maiden who has made ground at past two outings and may appreciate longer trip. 16

6 PARAGON STAR ** Placed four starts back but normally only battles. Having first try at 1800m and breeding suggests distance may suit. 8.00

7 MONEY KING ** Won Class 5 three starts back. Has only battled since but proven at the distance and should be handy throughout. 10

8 DANGER ZONE ** Won Class 5 over this trip on poly last start. This is harder but will run the trip better than most. 10

9 GANNET * Yet to win since arriving in Singapore and only battled over this trip last start. 25

10 BRILLIANT ONE * Recent form moderate but did look to have some in hand late last start so may be the improver at odds. 25

11 THE ONE * Weakened badly over this trip last start and only wins are on poly. 33

12 CHAIRMAN WIND * Battling in Class 5 but has placed at the trip and with no weight could be running on. 16

Race 2

A maiden of little depth and the benchmark looks to be ELENA OF AVALOR who, while disappointing not to have broken through as yet, has placed at four of six outings on the poly and must go close with a 4kg claimer. The improver could be ACCUMULATION who hasn't shown much at three starts but gets blinkers/pacifiers and he looked well held at a recent trial with headgear. Another that could challenge (and may be value) is PLUCKY LAD who has not been far away at recent outings and the better gate helps; he placed three starts back and can improve with positive ride from Olivier Placais. Of the rest, SATELLITE KINGDOM is another who can improve from a more beneficial draw while the newcomer, CROUCHING SUN, has trialled well locally and a market watch is the order of the day. Others that could show up in an open race include PENNSYLVANIA and GOLDEN STATES at value. Betting Strategy - ACCUMULATION each-way.

1 CROUCHING SUN *** Distanced at only start in Victoria. Well-bred 4YO by Street Cry whose dam won Group 3 Furious stakes and placed at Group 1 level. Trials well. Watch market. 5.00

2 PENNSYLVANIA ** Resuming with blinkers off after changing stables. Placed five times before arrival and once in three Singapore outings. Could show up fresh. Watch market. 8.00

3 ACCUMULATION *** Having first poly outing. Looked to be improving when doing it tough last start and subsequent trial with blinkers/pacifiers added suggests he goes well here. 12

4 SATELLITE KINGDOM *** Held up but ran on very well last start. Improving and from good gate can be in the finish. 5.00

5 ELENA OF AVALOR *** Looked to have every chance last start to break over due maiden status but with 4kg claim and a good gate she gets another chance to break through. 3.00

6 IRON FIST * Has struggled at recent turf outings. Only placing was on this surface but needs to improve. 25

7 PLUCKY LAD *** Not far away at recent outings in better company and better gate helps. Goes close. 5.00

8 MIGHTY PHOENIX * Resuming and hard to have. 33

9 SABIK * Only battled when resuming in Class 5. 33

10 GOLDEN STATES ** Placed three starts back in Class 5. Recent trial was sound and could improve with winkers on and tongue-tie off. 25

11 KING OF GLORY * Yet to place in nine starts. 50

Race 3

An extremely weak Class 4 (albeit non premier) and most of these don't win out of turn. LADRONE is one of these but he has performed solidly at his past two turf outings and is suited over this distance; he went forward with the leaders last start before fading and should be prominent for a long way from the good gate. PHIDIAS placed when resuming but was caught wide and only battled last start; he is awkwardly drawn again but this is a weak field. It is hard to find others with credentials but PERFECT COMMANDER placed five starts back in this class and that might be good enough in this field. Of the rest, RED SYMPHONY has speed, PAPERBACK TROOPER could show up fresh and the maiden, LEONARDO, has placed twice on turf in Class 5. Betting Strategy - LADRONE strong win.

1 LADRONE *** Went forward with leaders last start before fading. Should be prominent again from good gate. 3.00

2 RED SYMPHONY * Unsighted last start and tongue-tie comes off. Shorter trip may suit but best Singapore effort was on poly. 8.00

3 KEVIN ELEVEN * Blinkers back on but hasn't won for a long time. 33

4 PAPERBACK TROOPER * Resuming for new stable and hasn't won for over two years. Has not shown up at trials. Watch market. 16

5 SHE'S THE ONE * Drops back in trip and best efforts are over longer. 33

6 LEONARDO ** Maiden who did nothing when resuming and has had a further let-up. Has placed twice in Class 5 but needs to improve. 8.00

7 SUN HANCOCK * Resuming after long break. Only wins are at 1800m. 33

8 PERFECT COMMANDO *** Placed five starts back in this class and that might be good enough in this field. 5.00

9 TRIGGER MAN * Resuming after long break and market best guide. 25

10 PHIDIAS *** Placed when resuming but caught wide and only battled last start. Awkwardly drawn again but this is a weak field. 4.00

11 INVINCIBLE MAN * Struggled in stronger company last start. Better suited this company but only wins are on poly. 14

Race 4

A dreadfully weak Class 5 and BRING ME JOY gets his chance to win. The 6YO was run down last start when dropping to Class 5 and with Michael Rodd to ride from a good gate, he will be hard to run down. TOP BANANA is by the former top Singapore horse Super Easy who is having some success as a sire. TOP BANANA is far from one of his best progeny but he did show improvement last start and whilst he has yet to place in 12 outings, is young enough to have upside. The question mark is MASTERMIND who, on best form, would be too good for these over 1000m but he has knocked up badly at his past two outings. Of the rest, most are long-term maidens who will find this too short though YELLOW JADE HORSE and TUQUIOSE SON have some credentials over sprint journeys. One that could surprise is GENERAL CONATUS who is resuming and he could close late. Betting Strategy - BRING ME JOY strong win.

1 BRING ME JOY *** Run down last start in similar company. With Michael Rodd from a good gate will be hard to run down. 4.00

2 GRIDIRON * Only battles and yet to place in six starts but this is a weak race. 20

3 DAYUAN ** Blinkers back on and drop back to 1000m may help but gate tests. 14

4 GENERAL CONATUS * Resuming with blinkers and best efforts are over longer but has found a weak field and could charge home. 12

5 SPUR ME ON * Just missed three starts back but best form is at 1600m. 14

6 TURQUOISE SON *** Struggled last start from wide gate after just missing over 1200m at previous start. With Olivier Placais back on can improve. 8.00

7 WEST NORTH HILL * Nineteen start maiden who has placed five times. Battled away over this trip last start. Could show up. 25

8 BRIMSTONE * Resuming. Eleven start maiden whose only placing was at 1600m. 33

9 MASTERMIND *** Has speed but has knocked up badly at past two outings after leading. Recent trial was an improvement. Only wins are at this trip and if right will be hard to run down. 6.00

10 YELLOW JADE HORSE *** Sixteen start maiden but in solid form and goes close with luck from wide gate. 8.00

11 CROWN DELIGHT * Blinkers back on and yet to place in 12 outings but not far away at past two starts. Well drawn and should be handy throughout. 12

12 TOP BANANA *** Showed improvement last start. Well drawn again and will be in this a long way. 5.00

13 BOHEMIAN * Twenty-eight start maiden who will find these too sharp. 33

Race 5

As you would expect some smart horses contest this Class 2 over 1200m. The interesting runner is last season's Three-Year-Old Classic winner MISTER YEOH who has been freshened after an unplaced run in the Lion City Cup. Now a 4YO, MISTER YEOH has no weight to carry could be hard to beat with Vorster getting the plumb lightweight ride. The testing material may be DINGHU MOUNTAIN who was unsighted last start in the KRA Trophy after being hampered on jumping; he is better suited here and should get a good run throughout. GRAND CROSS also ran in that race and compounded after leading; he will find this easier and could be hard to run down back on his preferred surface. Another contender is last start winner DUTROW who is up in Class but drops 5kg while DARC BOUNTY had excuses last start and is worth another look at value. Betting Strategy - MISTER YEOH win.

1 GRAND CROSS *** Blinkers off after leading and weakening over final stages last start. Will find this easier and will also enjoy being back on the turf. 6.00

2 DINGHU MOUNTAIN *** Unsighted last start after being hampered on jumping away but worked home well and another that improves again back on the turf. Can win. 4.50

3 GOOD NEWS ** Ran on well to just miss in this class last start at long odds. Always a show if race run to suit swoopers. 8.00

4 DARC BOUNTY *** Had traffic issues last start when he looked to be travelling strongly in similar affair. Follow. 20

5 ROBIN HOOD ** Charged home over 1400m in this class last start. Would prefer longer but could close late. 8.00

6 BIRAZ ** Looked to have something left in the tank last start over 1400m and better suited here. Value. 12

7 DUTROW *** Fought hard and hung on to win Class 3 last start over this trip. Drops 5kg and from good gate should be handy throughout. 6.00

8 MARINE TREASURE ** Led and was run down in KSC last start over 1100m. Racing consistently and drops 5.5kg with Matthew Poon to ride. Gate no help. 14

9 KIRKS RYKER * Battled on after wide trip last start. Trialled solidly and has no weight but might like longer. 25

10 MISTER YEOH *** Smart 3YO (now 4YO) from last season freshened after unplaced Lion City run. Wins races like this you would think with no weight. 4.00

Race 6

Some dour journeymen do battle over 1800m and with no standout involved, the Cliff Brown-trained GOLD REWARD gets his chance. The 4YO is honest and while he finds it hard to win, Michael Rodd jumps back on and this race suits so he must be a huge show. It is an open race and NORTHERN KNIGHT is a solid miler who was caught wide early and ran on solidly last start; he has placed previously over this trip and with a positive ride should be hard to hold out. RICH BEAUTY doesn't win often but battled on solidly at her first start since resuming over 1200m and Stephen Gray has stepped her straight up to 1800m; Amirul stays on and if fully fit she should figure. They look the top three with little between them but DREAM BIG won over 2000m three starts back and may find this easier than recent outings while PIONEER STEP did place over the trip in Japan. Keep the maiden LARRY safe at long odds as he looks suited the trip and this is not a strong field. Betting strategy - GOLD REWARD, NORTHERN KNIGHT swinger, forecast.

1 NORTHERN KNIGHT *** Caught wide early and ran on solidly last start over 1600m. Has placed previously over this trip and with a positive ride should be hard to hold out. 4.00

2 RICH BEAUTY *** Got well back and never likely last start when resuming over 1200m. Will find this class and distance more suitable an can win. 4.00

3 PIONEER STEP ** Battled on last start over 1400m. Has placed previously over this distance in Japan and with 3kg claim could be running on. 8.00

4 GOLD REWARD *** Gets back and runs on but finds it hard to win. Gets Michael Rodd and will be hard to hold out. 4.00

5 MR HOPKINS * Ran on solidly over 1600m last start on poly but struggled at this trip prior. Yet to place in seven turf outings. 20

6 TUSCAN ARTIST * Fourteen start maiden who led before weakening over 2000m last start. One-paced but could go forward and give a sight. 20

7 DREAM BIG ** Won over 2000m three starts back but has struggled at two outings since. May find this easier and could be prominent from the good gate. 6.00

8 LAND BELOW D WIND * Improved by two outings since resuming. Failed at only previous attempt at this trip but could be running on. 20

9 LARRY ** Maiden who may appreciate this trip and could be running on at odds. 33

10 GALAXY EXPRESS * Recent efforts poor but has a good record at this trip. May need class 5. 20

11 GRAND PARIS * Better in Class 5. 33

Race 7

A competitive Class 4 over 1200m and ELISE will enjoy getting back on turf. With Iskandar to ride he gets a 3.5kg drop in weight from when narrowly beaten in this class two starts back; he is poorly drawn but has come from wide gates before to lead and will be hard to run down. GOLD CROWN has been freshened, drops in grade and will appreciate being on turf; he is better over 1400m but gets Michael Rodd and should be hard to hold out. The other class dropper, SAVAGE STORM, sat wide with cover and battled away last start in Class 3; he is better drawn here, the claim helps and he could show up. The field drops away after these though YULONG XIONG BA has been freshened after three ordinary poly efforts while TURF PRINCESS will also enjoying being back on the grass. Betting Strategy - ELISE each-way.

1 GOLD CROWN *** Has been freshened and will appreciate drop in grade. Better over 1400m but gets Michael Rodd and should be running on. 4.00

2 SAVAGE STORM *** Sat wide with cover and battled away last start on poly. Better drawn here and drops in grade. Can make his presence felt. 6.00

3 ELISE *** Only battled on poly last start but better suited here and gets 4kg claim. Not helped by the gate but has the speed to cross and should be hard to run down. 3.50

4 O'REILLY BAY * Used up from wide gate last start over 1600m. Poorly drawn again and drops back in trip. Best form is over longer. 8.00

5 OUR PINNACLE ** Won maiden at Te Rapa over this trip from three NZ starts. Has not shown up at trials but well drawn and gets Daniel Moor. Watch market. 8.00

6 TURF BEAUTY ** Did nothing when resuming on the Poly but gets blinkers added and better on the turf. 20

7 YULONG XIONG BA ** Has been freshened after three ordinary efforts on poly. Recent trials show improvement and could show up on turf. 16

8 BLACK QUAIL * Resuming with visor. Trial was fair and only win was at this trip. Watch market. 20

9 FAREES * Did not showup at first start for new stable. Has struggled at past two outings and poorly drawn. 33

10 RUM N RAISINS ** Battles away and ran on well last start. Doesn't win often but rarely runs poorly and should be handy throughout. 8.00

11 BEAUTIFUL DAY ** Supported and battled away late to pace last start in Maiden company. Well drawn and should be handy but can find easier. 33

Race 8

Apart from being worth a lazy SGD 125k, this Kranji Stakes A will be an excellent guide to a few of the feature races on the horizon in 2018. And one horse that will be keen to stamp his authority on the local racing scene is NOAH FROM GOAH for the Le Grange stable. The now 6YO arrived (via Dubai) with a big reputation after winning at Group 1 level over the mile in South Africa and showed enough at his local debut to think he improves for the outing over what looks a better trip. He also trialled well sans headgear and he should be given every chance from gate 3 in this field with Juglall up. Another horse to watch is SECRET WIN who surprised a few by winning when resuming over 1200m and you would think he won't slip under punters radars in this race given his form from his Gold Cup campaign in 2017. Of the rest, BLUE SWEDE will enjoy both the trip and a track that will suits back markers while Placais staying on-board MAKANINI is a good pointer to his chances. Betting Strategy - NOAH FROM GOA win.

1 NOAH FROM GOA *** Had a few excuses at Singapore debut and will improve for the effort with blinkers off. 2.60

2 BLUE SWEDE *** Form starting to read badly but trip and track suits and will be running on strongly. 12

3 ERAGON * Needs to show something in Singapore before considering. 50

4 SECRET WIN *** Very promising stayer who won at very long odds when resuming over 1200m and could be hard to hold out this trip. 4.00

5 SONG TO THE MOON ** Just battled with support last start on the E Course but won two back this trip and can follow. 6.00

6 CHAIRMAN ** Resuming with two trials under his belt. Smart enough stayer but might find this a tough ask first up. 12

7 GOLAZO ** Swooper who is always some show in races like this with 52.5kg a bonus. 12

8 MAKANANI *** Up in Class but got his act together to win well last start and pay to keep very safe with Placais retaining the ride. 7.00

9 MIGHTY EMPEROR ** Tested this company but excuses last start (lame), has no weight and honest so can consider in exotics. 12

Race 9

The Jumbo Jet stands alone as the only Group race in August but the 1400m also stands alone as an important stepping stone for the top-liners heading to bigger and better Group 1 races later in the year. And at the race conditions, it is a wide open affair with some good horses like MAJESTIC MOMENTS in best at the conditions with just 53kg off a rating of 107 while MR CLINT gets whacked with 57.5kg off a rating of just 80. CIRCUIT LAND is also in extremely well at the race conditions and while only having two runs in Singapore, he has won at Group level, gets to enjoy a good gate and can win this. KINGSMAN also looks well placed on the back of his Group placing two starts back with just 51kg and he must be respected while the DEBT COLLECTOR resuming is always a winning show on class alone. Blanket over CLARTON SUPER, NOVA STRIKE, ARAMCO and PREDITOR in what could be a busy finish. Betting Strategy - KINGSMAN each-way.

1 DEBT COLLECTOR *** Resuming after a frustrating run of good form without a win. Trial suggests he gives this a shake. 6.00

2 BAHANA * Resuming and needs much longer to show his best. 50

3 MR CLINT ** Guineas winner who is obviously in fine form but not suited by the race conditions not helped by the draw. 10

4 CIRCUIT LAND *** Freshened after tough run in the Kranji Mile but suited at the conditions and can win. 4.00

5 CLARTON SUPER *** Also first up after Kranji Mile and that effort good enough to give this a shake. 6.00

6 NOVA STRIKE *** Backed up Kranji Mile placing with another good run and will enjoy 54.5kg so keep safe. 8.00

7 ARAMCO *** Honest and will figure throughout in a race that suits. 12

8 BEST TOTHELIGN * OK last start but drawn wide and prefer others. 33

9 MAJESTIC MOMENTS *** Not the type to win out of turn (understatement) but suited at the race conditions and drawn to advantage. 8.00

10 PREDITOR *** Drawn wide but has been running on well of late and could easily surprise with 53kg. 20

11 MR FANTASTIC ** Favoured by the E Course last start when winning but honest and should run a very forward race. 20

12 POSEIDON * Needs to improve on recent form. 50

13 MR SPIELBERG ** Resuming and will work home strongly at odds. 33

14 KINGSMAN *** Very disappointing in the Derby but would give this a shake on form prior with just 51kg. 20

15 ABSOLUTE MIRACLE * Good effort last start but tested this level. 33

Race 10

Let's hope we have had a good day finding winners, as the lucky last looks a dead-set raffle with at least eight with winning hopes and no standout. As such a horse like MILLENNIUM'S RULE gets his chance. The 6YO had heavy support and was never involved on the E Course last start but will be better suited here and with blinkers off and R Curatolo on, he can win. BASILIK also gets his chance at likely each-way value. The 4YO had been struggling after his maiden win back in March but placed last start after a good trial and given he has again trialled well and gets Placais back from gate 3, he goes close. Last start maiden winner KRANJI GOLD can go on with the job with Rodd staying on-board while O'REILLY'S DANCER, PLATO, REDOUBT and MAURAO can also all win without surprising. Betting Strategy - look for value, BASILIK each-way.

1 O'REILLY'S DANCER *** Usually in the mix and drop back to the mile from gate 4 may see a result. 6.00

2 KOKONI ** Disappointing last start but gets blinkers and runs on well enough on a good day to keep safe. 20

3 KRANJI GOLD *** Broke overdue maiden status when stepping up the mile last start and pay to follow. 5.00

4 BASILISK *** Improved effort when running on last start and has trialled well since. Can win with Placais from gate 3 a factor. 7.00

5 PLATO *** Improving with each run in Singapore and should figure in this finish. 5.00

6 REDOUBT *** Had support and only battled away last start on the E Course but better suite here and 4kg claim from gate 2 won't hurt. 20

7 MILLENNIUM'S RULE *** Had heavy support and also not suited by the E Course last start and pay to follow with blinkers off. 6.00

8 MASURAO *** Can be hard to follow but won two of his last five so have to keep safe. 8.00

9 PRINCE DARCI * OK late last start but drawn wide and may need longer again. 33

10 SILENT PRINCE * OK three starts back but that may have been an anomaly. 50

11 SONORAN * Maiden who struggles. 200

12 MURDOCH ** Placed at long odds last starts in this company so pay to include in exotics with no weight from gate 1. 20

13 VESONTIO ** Has been showing enough late to follow and had support last start but may need easier. 12

14 AVENGERS HERO * Struggling. 200
