Friday meeting preview, selections, comments and odds.
It’s party time in Singapore on Friday with a bumper ten-race public holiday card and the day meeting looks a beauty with plenty of very good races late in the day.
But again, it may be a 2YO affair that sparks the interest of punters with a full field to contest the IRT Juvenile Stakes (race 4) - the third leg of the Singapore Golden Horseshoe Series.
The race looks a cracker with four of the raced-brigade showing more than enough at their respective debuts to win a race like this before heading towards the Group 2 Aushorse Golden Horseshow in July, while you could also make a case for at least of eight of the debutantes on exposed trial form.
Where does that leave punters? With plenty of options you would have thought and while the likes of LIM’S LIGHTNING will have admirers on the back of a very good placing in Novice Company on debut, the tote will be a terrific guide on the day.
As will jockey bookings and given connections would be very keen to get a get a slice of the SGD$90,000 pie, the likes of Vlad Duric and Glen Boss on debutantes AXEL and TIGER BOSS respectively, suggests they have a big say to debut.
Barriers will also be a huge factor with QIJI COMMANDER getting the favours for Craig Grylls from gate 1 while Barend Vortser will have to earn his keep on STREETWISE from the extreme outside.
May the best 2YO win!
Best Bets: (KINGSMAN race 7, win), (SKY ROCKET race 10, win) and (MILLION ROUND race 6, value).

Selections; 5 KUBERA'S CHIEF - 1 DOMINY - 2 PARKER - 9 SECONDWAVE
A public holiday in Singapore and no need to rush to the track as the opener is just fair at best. But as they say in the game, 'every race has a winner' and that could be a good enough mantra for KUBERA'S CHIEF to take home the chocolates. Class 5 does look his caper and although drawn wide, he has the pace to go forward and he will look the winner at some stage late. DOMINY is yet to win a race (and as a 7YO that is a concern) but he is due and while also drawn wide, Boss will have options with speed drawn just inside him and he can break his maiden status today. Of the Class droppers, PARKER and DAYUAN both improve in this company while SECONDWAVE is in solid form and should figure somewhere in the mix. Betting Strategy - PARKER each-way.
1 DOMINY *** Drawn wide and long-term maiden status a concern but ready to win and goes close. 3.00
2 PARKER *** Form reads terribly and prefers longer on the turf but drops in grade and could easily show up in this field. 20
3 SPUR ME ON * Another Class dropper who improves in this Company but needs longer. 33
4 DAYUAN ** Not the type to win out of turn and drawn wide but this race is his caper so keep safe. 12
5 KUBERA'S CHIEF *** Drawn wide but can go forward and lead and in this a very long way. 3.00
6 PACIFIC PEARL ** Maiden who has shown glimpses and can figure in exotics. 20
7 DICAPRIO * Not on recent form. 50
8 LADY LIBERTY * Needs to show something this campaign before considering. 50
9 SECONDWAVE *** Did it tough last start and some hope on that effort and form prior. 4.00
10 HIPPO VENTURA ** Ran on well enough late last start to consider in exotics from gate 1. 12
11 FLYING SHADOW * OK very late last start but needs to find a couple of lengths before considering. 33
12 SACRED CROWN * Another that worked home OK after never being involved last start and could figure from gate 2. 50
13 GIN GO GIN * Back in trip and hard to have. 50
Selections; 2 KEY SUCCESS - 5 LUCKY SIX - 3 RUM N RAISINS - 1 BOARD WALK
Nothing jumps off the page in this Class 4 (non-premier) Poly sprint and while the likes of BOARD WALK and RUM N RAISINS are honest and look due, it may be KEY SUCCESS resuming who is hardest to hold out. The lightly raced 4YO showed enough at his maiden campaign to think he wins races like this and a recent trial good enough to think he can win first up after a change of stables. As mentioned, BOARD WALK and RUM N RAISINS are both in solid form and look due, although barriers will play a part with BOARD WALK needing luck from the widest gate while RUM N RAISINS should get the favours from gate 2 with support likely. LUCKY SIX - although disappointing last start - also looks well placed to knock in a win and keep SUPER DAN safe as he has certainly found form after blinkers went on two starts back. Betting Strategy - KEY SUCCESS win.
1 BOARD WALK *** Will need luck from wide gate but honest and looks due so keep safe. 12
2 KEY SUCCESS *** Resuming and having first start for Donna Logan. Has pace, maiden win on this surface and recent trial good enough for this. 3.00
3 RUM N RAISINS *** Never involved from wide gate last start but best work late and form prior has him under notice from better alley. 5.00
4 SWIFT EMBRACE ** Something looked amiss last start (you would hope) and can consider on solid maiden win at his previous start. 33
5 LUCKY SIX *** Very disappointing last start with support but gets his chance with J Powell to ride. 4.00
6 MOON CHARM * Coming off a shocker and query this surface so happy to ignore. 50
7 SILVER WIN FORTUNE ** Gets blinkers but has had no luck with barriers since maiden win and will again have to do it tough. 33
8 KAZUO * Gets senior hoop but like to see something before considering. 50
9 SOUTHERN GLORY * Can run on when in the mood but better suited on the turf. 20
10 HEAVENLY HAND ** Ran on well enough last start to include in exotics in this field but may need easier to win. 12
11 SUPER DAN *** Up in Class but found form since blinkers added this campaign and worth thought. 6.00
12 GALLANT HEIGHTS * Resuming and should need easier and longer. 33
Selections; 2 LITTLE MASTER - 6 MOMENT OF JUSTICE - 1 JUSTICE LASS - 3 DUSSELDORF
Although there are three last start winners in this field, it is the horses that come off eye-catching runs in this company that appeal. JUSTICE LASS certainly fits that category after running on strongly over 1200m on the Polytrack and while drawn wide for this, he will make his presence felt under C Grylls at the business end. Likewise, MOMENT OF JUSTICE ran on well last start and given that effort was against the bias and he gets the benefit of a 3kg claim, he will play a part in the finish. Add DUSSELDORF to the list of horses that will be working home late and it should be a busy finish. However, the horse they all have to beat is LITTLE MASTER who looks due, comes off a nice trial and retains the services of V Duric which counts for plenty. NEW SENSATION, MURDOCH and RACING TALENT are the three last start winners but all would need to improve again in this field. Betting Strategy - LITTLE MASTER win.
1 JUSTICE LASS *** Eye-catching effort late last start and that bodes well for a big run over a more suitable trip. 6.00
2 LITTLE MASTER *** In form, recent trial looked easy and can win in what is a very suitable affair. 3.00
3 DUSSELDORF *** Yet to win in Singapore but flew home late last start over 1400m and should be hard to hold out here. 5.00
4 ROMAN CLASSIC ** Will improve with racing and gets blinkers over a suitable trip so keep an eye for any stable support. 25
5 SACRED GALAXY * Form reads very badly and drawn wide but switch to senior hoop could see an improvement. 33
6 MOMENT OF JUSTICE *** Ran on well against the bias last start and looks ready to win with a handy 3kg claim. 6.00
7 NEW SENSATION ** Broke overdue maiden status last start this trip and usually runs a forward race so keep safe. 12
8 KHUDAWAND ** Better than what he has shown at two runs this campaign and recent solid trial suggests he plays a part from gate 3. 12
9 MINGS MAN ** In the exotic mix at his last two starts at odds and worth including somewhere. 20
10 GANNET * OK two starts back but like to see more before considering. 33
11 AVENGERS HERO * Nuisance value only. 100
12 MURDOCH * Will find this tougher than Class 5 and skinny end of exotics at best. 20
13 GALAXY EXPRESS * Solid without being a threat in similar affair last start and better suited over longer in easier Company. 33
14 RACING TALENT * Won when leading in Class 5 last start and may need that company. 33
Selections; 7 LIM'S LIGHTNING - 13 STREETWISE - 8 MAKKEM LAD - 9 MY BIG BOSS
Not only is there a capacity field for this Juvenile Stakes, but most look some hope on the back of either good debuts or exposed trial form, so finding the winner will be extremely tough. The market will obviously be a very good guide on the day (and there will be value about) but of the raced brigade not much separates the likes of LIM'S LIGHTNING, MAKKEM LAD, MY BIG BOSS and JUPITER DRAGON. All can win although LIM'S LIGHTNING might be the outlier given he debuted in Novice Company and will appreciate being back in his own age-group. Of the un-raced brigade, STREETWISE and TIGER BOSS both appeal but have wide gates to overcome while QIJI COMMANDER, AXEL and CRAZY WINS (to name just a few) all go close on trial form. Betting Strategy - LIM'S LIGHTNING each-way.
1 ALWAYS INNOCENT ** Looked solid at Official Trial but wide gate always a concern. 20
2 AXEL *** Hit the line well enough at Official Trial to think he has something to offer with Duric a factor. 8.00
3 CLARTON STAR ** Solid effort at Official Trial and worth though in exotics on debut. 33
4 CRAZY WINS *** Has had numerous trials and won his most recent which bodes well for a good debut. 8.00
5 FIGHT TO VICTORY * Showed little at Official trial. 200
6 JUPITER DRAGON ** Ran on well on debut and expect much the same. 20
7 LIM'S LIGHTNING *** Drawn awkwardly but made an eye-catching debut in Novice Company and that form should hold up here. 6.00
8 MAKKEM LAD *** Drawn wide but ran on very well late on debut and could be hard to hold out with tongue-tie added. 5.00
9 MY BIG BOSS *** Had excuses early before making up ground to place on debut and will have admirers to give this a shake. 8.00
10 QIJI COMMANDER *** Had a good hit out to the wire when winning Official Trial and must be respected from gate 1. 8.00
11 SALAMENCE ** Looked to be doing to easy with best work on the line at Official Trial and could be a value runner. 33
12 SOTHISTHEONE * Struggled on debut but should improve on the back of OK trial with blinkers added. 50
13 STREETWISE *** Wide draw a concern but was on par with stablemate Pennywise at the trials and that form has been franked. Keep safe. 8.00
14 TIGER BOSS *** Drawn wide but looked good enough winning Official Trial to be some hope. 8.00
15 ACE'S WILD ** Excuses on debut and looked to have enough in hand late to think he has more to offer at long odds. 100
16 LEGENDARY ERA * No. 500
Selections; 1 ARR FLAIR - 9 MASTER OF MALIBU - 2 LIFE IS GAMBLE - 11 SPECIAL RAIN
Plenty of winning hopes in this Class 4 (premier) sprint and while not one to win out of turn, ARR FLAIR will be in the mix. The 5YO is versatile but his form of late over 1200m in this Company has been very good and from gate 4 with R Curatolo to ride, he gets his chance. One that may be value is MASTER OF MALIBU. The 3YO can disappoint but will appreciate being back on the Poly and, given he has form around some nice types on the all-weather, he could win this. Of the rest, COUNTRY BOSS, DESTROYER ECLIPSE and SPECIAL RAIN all look due and can win without surprising while LIFE IS GAMBLE looks the big improver dropping to Class 4 with a tongue-tie added. Betting Strategy - MASTER OF MALIBU each-way.
1 ARR FLAIR *** In terrific form and hard to hold out with Curatolo up from gate 4. 3.00
2 LIFE IS GAMBLE *** Showed enough last start in better Company to follow in Class 4 with tongue-tie added. 12
3 MR WHITAKER * Hard to have on recent form and drawn wide but has trialled OK so could improve. 33
4 BARNATO ** Looked to have every chance last start in similar affair but has subsequently trialled well and should figure in the mix. 8.00
5 DESTROYER ECLIPSE *** Excuses before running on well in similar affair to place and worth thought again. 8.00
6 LIM'S BULLET ** Disappointing last start but handles the Poly and obviously some hope on form prior. 12
7 COUNTRY BOSS *** Did it tough last start and effort to place has him having a big say here from gate 1. 8.00
8 COME AND TAKE ALL ** Just battled last start but usually a solid each-way chance. 12
9 MASTER OF MALIBU *** Forget last start on the turf as has a good Poly record and can win this. 8.00
10 PIONEER STEP * Back in trip but can find the line strongly so keep safe. 20
11 SPECIAL RAIN *** Did it tough last start from wide gate and was due prior so happy to give another chance with Duric returning the ride. 12
12 SAVAGE STORM ** Usually in the exotic mix and often good value to worth thought. 20
13 BIG BANKER * Placed the time he raced over this trip but better over longer. 33
14 AURORA AUSTRALIS * Maiden who can find easier. 50
Selections; 1 CHAIRMAN WIND - 2 MILLION ROUND - 3 NEO'S CLASSIC - 8 POWERFUL AS WIND
It always pays to keep an eye on Class droppers and CHAIRMAN WIND and MILLION ROUND are the two to watch in this Class 5 mile. CHAIRMAN WIND in particular drops to what is a very suitable affair and given the last time he dropped to Class 5 he went round as the even money fave, expect support and a big run. MILLION ROUND perhaps comes into this race with the more eye-catching run under his belt but he is a slight query the trip so play with care with a 3kg claimer on-board. Of the rest, NEO'S CLASSIC had excuses when dropping to this Class last start and he wins without surprising, while on recent good form in this Company, POWERFUL OF WIND will probably lead and give a sight with G Boss a factor. Betting Strategy - MILLION ROUND each-way.
1 CHAIRMAN WIND *** Significant drop in Class given he jumped and won as the even money favourite the last time he was in this Company (and trip). Big show. 3.00
2 MILLION ROUND *** Tested this trip but grew wings late last start and happy to follow dropping to Class 5. 8.00
3 NEO'S CLASSIC *** Disappointing with support last start in this Class over 1400m but wins races like this without surprising and pay to keep safe. 5.00
4 DARCI'S BOY ** Solid at his last couple without being a threat but can include in exotics. 12
5 NICATOR ** Ran on well enough against the bias at odds last start to include somewhere. 12
6 BIG REGARDS ** Runs on when in the mood and could figure late on a course that suits. 12
7 FORTUNE SPIRIT * No. 100
8 POWERFUL AS WIND *** Had his chances of late but will go forward and look the winner at some stage in the straight. 3.00
9 TOOBIGTOFAIL * Nothing last start and better on the Poly. 50
10 BALKAN CHALLENGER * Battles only. 50
Selections; 1 KINGSMAN - 9 YULONG XIONG HU - 6 WINNING CAUSE - 3 LIM'S REGARD
While you can make a strong case for up to seven of the nine-horse field, the top-rated horse in KINGSMAN looks hardest to beat. The 4YO ran on very well against the bias to just miss last start over 1400m and from gate 1 you would think he has every chance to make quick amends stepping up to the mile with V Duric a factor. Oddly, it may be the lowest rated horse in the field - YULONG XIONG HU - who is his biggest danger. The former Australian looks a very progressive type and with no weight in what looks a suitable affair, he goes very close. It's definitely not a two horse affair with the proverbial blanket going over the likes of last start winner GOLAZO, the two Lim's horse's in LIM'S REGARDS and LIM'S KNIGHT, while WINNING CAUSE also gets his chance. Keep SONG TO THE MOON safe, as this race should suit back-markers. Betting Strategy - KINGSMAN win.
1 KINGSMAN *** Big effort when running on to just miss last start and hard to hold out from gate 1 over the mile. 2.50
2 GOLAZO *** Can mix his form but ran on well to win last start over 1800m and always some show. 8.00
3 LIM'S REGARD *** Looked to have every chance last start but mile suits and worth another look. 12
4 SONG TO THE MOON ** Form better than it reads but needs a race to suit swoopers to win. 20
5 SOLARIS SPECTRUM * Blinkers off but hard to have on recent poor form. 50
6 WINNING CAUSE *** Did it tough enough last start to forgive just fair effort and take on form prior. 8.00
7 KEEP SPINNING * Resuming and does have first-up form but this field may test. 33
8 LIM'S KNIGHT ** Backing up after running on well over 1200m last start and pay to keep safe. 8.00
9 YULONG XIONG HU *** Very promising type who has form around some very good horses and hard to hold out. 3.00
Selections; 2 DUTROW - 1 HIMALAYA DRAGON - 6 FILIBUSTER - 3 BOY WONDER
While DUTROW gets the favours from gate 1 and looks the obvious choice on the back on a good last start win, this race has much more to offer and HIMALAYA DRAGON could be a terrific value option. The 7YO has drawn wide in gate 9 but given a speedster in FILIBUSTER has drawn just inside her in 8, a handy enough position with cover could see a result on the back of some very solid recent form. FILIBUSTER too can be considered with winkers added but she would need the favours out front with C Grylls to take the ride. But DUTROW is the one to beat on form and while he won in the protest room last start, there was a gap to third and he can go on with the job. Of the others, BOY WONDER can disappoint but goes well for V Duric while SILKINO and UNCONQUERED are always an each-way show in races like this. Betting Strategy - HIMALAYA DRAGON each-way.
1 HIMALAYA DRAGON *** Always a winning show in race like this and looked well held at recent trial so must go close. 6.00
2 DUTROW *** Won (albeit in the Protest Room) last start and gets the favours form gate 1 so pay to follow. 3.00
3 BOY WONDER *** Can mix his form but goes best for V Duric and has to be respected. 8.00
4 UNSURPASSED * Will appreciate being back on the Poly but like to something this campaign before considering. 50
5 CHARGER ** Disappointing with support when blinkers went on last start but worth one more look on the Poly. 12
6 FILIBUSTER *** Made all the running before finding it too tough late as the odds-on elect last start but winkers added and will go close. 4.00
7 DUTY FIRST * Needs to show more. 50
8 UNCONQUERED *** Won't win out of turn but race suits, gets gate 2 and in this a very long way. 6.00
9 WONDERFUL KNIGHT * Drawn wide and a better option on the turf. 33
10 SILKINO *** Not going to win out of turn but honest and this Company suitable to show his best. 12
11 UNCLE LUCKY * Reassess in easier Company. 50
Selections; 6 LIM'S ARCHER - 2 MCGREGOR - 4 TARGET - 11 MAGIC WAND
This race looks better than a Kranji Stakes C on paper given two of the fancies - LIM'S ARCHER and McGREGOR - have placed in much better Company of late and no less than three last start winners are also in the field. LIM'S ARCHER placed in Group Company back in December and given he looked solid when resuming and the step up to this trip suits, he could be the testing material. McGREGOR wasn't far away from the good winner in AOTEAROA in KSA Company last start when placing over this trip on the turf and he also goes mighty close. ROBIN HOOD, TARGET and BLUE DANUBE are the three last start winners in the field and of those, TARGET probably looks the pick given his win completed a hat trick and he can go on with the job. MR SCORSESE and MAGIC WAND just two more to consider. Betting Strategy - LIM'S ARCHER win.
1 KIRKS RYKER * Will find this Company to his liking but only for the brave on recent form. 20
2 MCGREGOR *** Placed in good Company last start and this trip and track is very suitable. Can win. 5.00
3 ROBIN HOOD *** Showed his best last start to win and handles this surface and trip so has to be respected. 12
4 TARGET *** Wide gate always a concern but in super form and can go forward and give a big sight with handy 4kg claim. 6.00
5 BLUE DANUBE *** Surprised most by winning at long odds last start but have to follow on that effort. 12
6 LIM'S ARCHER *** Placed at Group level over 1700m two starts back after back to-back wins and can win on the back of solid first up effort. 5.00
7 DICTON ** Form better than it reads and will improve again from gate 1 with blinkers removed. 33
8 MR SCORSESE *** Excuses last start with support so happy to follow as Poly suits and gets upgrade to blinkers from gate 4. 7.00
9 SUPERNOVA ** Veteran who place last start with V Duric and pay to keep safe with top hoop retaining the ride. 12
10 SMART VINTAGE ** Ran on well last start in this Company and expect much the same at value. 12
11 MAGIC WAND *** Another that backed up good Class 4 win with a big run in this Company and pay to follow. 8.00
12 GOLD FAITH ** Solid without being a threat last start but happy to follow on big run two starts back. 20
13 ZAC ACE ** Did it tough enough last start to give another chance in this company on form prior. 33
14 SANDTOP *** Yet to winning Singapore but eye-catching run against the bias last start over 1200m has him under notice back over a suitable trip. 20
Selections; 4 SKY ROCKET - 2 DARCI CHARMER - 1 LUCKY STRIDE - 7 LIM'S REFORM
A solid Class 3 turf event over 1400m to finish what was hopefully a profitable day at the track and while there could be some improvers at odds, SKY ROCKET could be the safest way home. The lightly-raced 4YO has had excuses for his only two unplaced runs and his progression through the grades at his last three starts suggests he wins this without surprising and can go on to better races. DARCI CHARMER looks the danger. The 7YO led them up in KSA Company two back and wasn't a mile away at the finish before running on very strongly last start suggesting he wins again soon. The in-form LUCKY STRIDE and LIM'S REFORM two others that can win without surprising while BATTLE OF TROY and MAJOR TOM just two others that could provide value to exotics. Betting Strategy - SKY ROCKET win.
1 LUCKY STRIDE *** Ran on well through traffic to be in the mix last start in similar affair and should figure here. 4.00
2 DARCI CHARMER *** Had excuses last start not to win and that form has held up. Big show. 4.00
3 MR CROWE * Struggling. 100
4 SKY ROCKET *** Progressive type who looks like winning in this Company sooner than later and gets his chance here, 2.50
5 BATTLE OF TROY ** Appreciates first up run and could sneak a place at odds. 20
6 MAJOR TOM ** Last run better than the result and pay to keep safe at value. 10
7 LIM'S REFORM *** May have surprised when winning two back but best work late last start suggests he has more to offer over a suitable trip. 20
8 THE WIND ** Disappointing last start but has trialled well since so worth thought at odds. 20
9 BENGAL LANCER * Will improve with racing but may need longer again to show his best. 33
10 SOUTHERN DRAGON ** Not far away when resuming and should be improved. Can show up with a positive ride. 20
11 SIAM GEMSTONE ** Solid without being a threat when blinkers added last start but pay to keep safe in exotics on form prior. 20
