Juglall suspended four days, track rider disqualified one year

At the conclusion of an Inquiry on Friday, 10 August 2018, Jockey N Juglall, the rider of BIG WAVE, was found guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that whilst riding BIG WAVE in Race 10 at the Singapore Turf Club Meeting on Sunday, 24 June 2018, near the 700m, he permitted his mount to shift inwards, when insufficiently clear, resulting in COPACABANA (C Grylls) being tightened and having to be eased. 

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account his record, the degree of interference and carelessness and submissions from Jockey Juglall that he has been engaged to ride at the Singapore Race Meetings on Friday, 10 August 2018, Sunday, 12 August 2018 and Friday, 17 August 2018. 

The Stewards determined to suspend his licence to ride in races and acting under MRA Rule 48(5), the commencement of the suspension was deferred to begin on Saturday, 18 August 2018 until Friday, 24 August both dates inclusive (two Singapore Race Days). He was advised of his Right of Appeal.


SINGAPORE JULY MEETING 2018

SUNDAY, 22 JULY 2018:

RACE 2 [TF0914]

At the conclusion of an Inquiry on Friday, 10 August 2018, Jockey N Juglall, the rider of SILVER JOY, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that whilst riding SILVER JOY in Race 2 at the Singapore Turf Club Meeting on Sunday, 22 July 2018, near the 850m, he allowed his mount to shift inwards, when insufficiently clear of LORD JUSTICE (G Boss), resulting in that gelding having to be checked.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account his record, guilty plea and the degree of interference and carelessness.

Jockey Juglall was suspended from riding in races with effect from Saturday, 25 August 2018 to Sunday, 02 September 2018 both dates inclusive (two Singapore Race Days) and was advised of his Right of Appeal.

This penalty will be served consecutively following the completion of his suspension from Saturday, 18 August 2018 until Friday, 24 August 2018 both dates inclusive (two Singapore Race Days). 


DRUGS OF ABUSE TESTING – HUMAN URINE

RANDOM SAMPLES: 15 MAY 2018

12 human urine samples from the above-mentioned date were received for analysis under the MRA Rules and Regulations.

Sample was analysed and the sample with Sample Coding No. J-4159 which was taken from Mr Michael Thomas Laird Shaw  (TR14), a Trackrider from Trainer S Gray's Stables, revealed the presence of Methamphetamine.

After a number of attempts to contact Mr Michael Thomas Laird Shaw, pursuant to MRA Rule 153, an Inquiry into this matter was heard in his absence on Monday, 16 July 2018, following which Mr Michael Thomas Laird Shaw was charged under MRA Rule 136(4)(b), the particulars being that the sample taken from him on Tuesday, 15 May 2018 was found to contain Methamphetamine, prohibited substances under the MRA Rules of Racing. On Monday, 16 July 2018, after considering the evidence, Mr Michael Thomas Laird Shaw was found guilty to the charge under MRA Rule of Racing 136(4)(b).

Despite being further advised of the Stewards' findings, Mr Michael Thomas Laird Shaw failed to attend the Hearing set down for the consideration of the penalty on Monday, 06 August 2018.

The Stewards gave consideration to the matter of penalty in his absence and Mr Michael Thomas Laird Shaw was disqualified for a period of one year with effect from Wednesday from Monday, 09 July 2018 to Monday, 08 July 2019 both dates inclusive and he was advised of his Right of Appeal.
