Race:1 (155) KAM SHAN HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 5 1000 m

WHISTLE UP was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore). Before being allowed to race again, WHISTLE UP will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
VICTOR EMPEROR was withdrawn prior to Race 1 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (swollen left knee). Before being allowed to race again, VICTOR EMPEROR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
HAPPY SOUND began awkwardly and then, despite being ridden along for a considerable distance in the early stages, failed to muster speed.
FIRST BEAUT and RICHCITY FORTUNE bumped at the start.
A short distance after the start, PERFECT CHOICE shifted out and bumped FIRST BEAUT, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced.
From the outside barrier, COUR VALANT was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Making the first turn after the 600 Metres, COUR VALANT got its head on the side and lay out badly.
Approaching and passing the 200 Metres, ACTUARIAT was awkwardly placed outside the heels of RAICHU which shifted out marginally under pressure.
Throughout the race, RICHCITY FORTUNE travelled wide and without cover.
A veterinary inspection of RAICHU and FIRST BEAUT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
ACTUARIAT, DRAGON DANCE and SPORTS MASTER were sent for sampling.

Race:2 (156) PLOVER COVE HANDICAP (Sec2) Class 4 1200 m

SPRING WIN shifted in abruptly on jumping, resulting in SMART SALUTE being crowded for room.
THOU SHALL SING shifted out shortly after the start and bumped JUMBO BUS.
From the outside barrier, JOLLY BOUNTIFUL was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
After being left racing wide making the turn after the 1000 Metres, CARE FREE PRINCE was steadied to obtain cover.
After being ridden positively for some distance in the early stages to obtain a forward position, VERY RICH MAN was left racing wide and without cover and for some distance after the 900 Metres was consequently steadied to obtain a trailing position behind GOOD COMPANION. After initially obtaining cover behind that horse, VERY RICH MAN was again left racing wide and without cover after the 600 Metres.
Approaching the 600 Metres, JUMBO BUS raced in restricted room between PAKISTAN BABY and DOLLAR REWARD. In this incident, JUMBO BUS bumped the hindquarters of PAKISTAN BABY which became unbalanced.
Passing the 300 Metres and again near the 200 Metres, PAKISTAN BABY was awkwardly placed inside the heels of PRAWN YEAH YEAH which shifted in.
Near the 250 Metres, JUMBO BUS was momentarily eased away from the heels of JOLLY BOUNTIFUL which shifted out to obtain clear running.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of DOLLAR REWARD, G van Niekerk stated that he was asked to have the horse positioned in midfield if possible. He said DOLLAR REWARD began awkwardly and was awkwardly placed inside the heels of GOOD COMPANION shortly after the start. He said this resulted in DOLLAR REWARD being further back in the field than had been hoped. He said he rode his mount along in the early stages in an attempt to obtain a midfield position and then had to continue to ride it along to prevent CARE FREE PRINCE from crossing DOLLAR REWARD near the 1000 Metres. He said although DOLLAR REWARD was able to obtain a midfield position, he had to make more use of the horse than had been hoped to do so. He said after being shifted to the outside of VERY RICH MAN passing the 400 Metres, DOLLAR REWARD did not quicken as he expected and then finished off the race only fairly. He added, in his opinion, the horse’s disappointing performance could be attributed to the fact that it was ridden along in the early stages, unlike at its most recent start when it finished off strongly after being ridden more conservatively in the early stages. A veterinary inspection of DOLLAR REWARD immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of VERY RICH MAN and GOOD COMPANION immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
DOLLAR REWARD, PAKISTAN BABY and JOLLY BOUNTIFUL were sent for sampling.

Race:3 (157) SHEK PIK HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1650 m

DARING HEART began awkwardly and lost ground.
Shortly after the start, SPARKLING SWORD raced tight between MEGATRON and CURLING LUXURY which shifted out.
From wide barriers, GARLIC YEAH and LUCKY SHINY DAY were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
After travelling a short distance, THE FULL BLOOM and GOLD LAND were crowded for room between GARLIC YEAH and HEROIC GURU which shifted out. In this incident, GARLIC YEAH became unbalanced when bumped by GOLD LAND.
Passing the 250 Metres, LUCKY SHINY DAY raced tight inside THE FULL BLOOM which lay in when giving ground. LUCKY SHINY DAY raced tight outside the hindquarters of GARLIC YEAH passing the 150 Metres.
Near the 25 Metres, HEROIC GURU, which had been shifting out in an endeavour to improve outside MARVEL JOY, was steadied when disappointed for running between MARVEL JOY which shifted out and BELLAGIO. In this incident, HEROIC GURU bumped BELLAGIO. As the Stewards were satisfied that HEROIC GURU did not establish running to the outside of MARVEL JOY prior to that horse shifting ground, no further action was taken. Because of this incident, both BELLAGIO and HEROIC GURU were not ridden out all the way to the end of the race.
Throughout the race, THE FULL BLOOM travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned regarding the performance of POLYMER LUCK, M Chadwick stated that it was anticipated that there would be good pace in the race and that pace would predominately come from SPARKLING SWORD, THE FULL BLOOM and MEGATRON and therefore it was hoped that the field may be able to spread out in the early stages which may provide him with the opportunity to obtain a trailing position from a wide barrier. He said in accordance with his instructions he rode POLYMER LUCK positively in the early stages, however, despite riding his mount for some distance, POLYMER LUCK did not show the same pace as THE FULL BLOOM and therefore he elected to obtain a trailing position behind that horse passing the winning post on the first occasion. He said POLYMER LUCK travelled satisfactorily in the middle stages and he felt that after shifting to the outside of THE FULL BLOOM near the 400 Metres, POLYMER LUCK would quicken well given the manner in which it had travelled throughout the race. He added however that POLYMER LUCK immediately came off the bridle and, despite being ridden out in the Straight, was disappointing in the manner in which it failed to finished off the race and was only one-paced in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of POLYMER LUCK immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
When questioned regarding the performance of LUCKY SHINY DAY, S de Sousa stated that, from the outside barrier, he shifted his mount across behind runners in the early stages which was how the horse had been ridden in the past. He said LUCKY SHINY DAY had travelled fairly throughout the race and he expected the horse, based on its previous performance, to quicken well in the early part of the Straight. He said he was going to shift to the outside of GOLD LAND passing the 400 Metres, but believed he would have had to cover too much extra ground and as there was running to the inside of that horse, he improved between runners in the early part of the Straight. He said LUCKY SHINY DAY did not quicken as well as he expected and then when racing initially between THE FULL BLOOM and GARLIC YEAH and later in the Straight between POLYMER LUCK and GARLIC YEAH, LUCKY SHINY DAY was reluctant to improve between runners. He added LUCKY SHINY DAY was disappointing, particularly given that it did not quicken as it did at its last start when ridden by another jockey. A veterinary inspection of LUCKY SHINY DAY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of MEGATRON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
CURLING LUXURY and MARVEL JOY were sent for sampling.

Race:4 (158) PLOVER COVE HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1200 m

From the outside barriers, FORTUNE PATROL, E MASTER and BLACK TECH were all shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Passing the 1100 Metres, HAVE FUN TOGETHER, which had initially drawn to the outside of TOM’S DRAGON (S de Sousa), improved quickly to be racing inside that horse. Then approaching the 1000 Metres, TOM’S DRAGON, which was being steadied to obtain a trailing position behind WALDORF, shifted in before being directed back out which resulted in HAVE FUN TOGETHER losing ground when momentarily crowded for room between SPEEDY DRAGON and TOM’S DRAGON. S de Sousa was reprimanded and informed that whilst there were some circumstances to this incident, nonetheless he must ensure that he is properly clear of other horses when shifting ground.
Passing the 900 Metres, BLACK TECH got its head on the side and shifted in abruptly away from FORTUNE PATROL.
Passing the 700 Metres, SHINEALOT raced tight inside SPEEDY DRAGON which got its head on the side and shifted in away from TOM’S DRAGON. TOM’S DRAGON and SPEEDY DRAGON then raced tight passing the 650 Metres.
Making the turn after the 600 Metres, SHINEALOT again raced in restricted room inside SPEEDY DRAGON which was racing tight inside TOM’S DRAGON.
Throughout the race, WALDORF travelled wide and without cover.
A veterinary inspection of HAVE FUN TOGETHER immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, HAVE FUN TOGETHER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of TOM’S DRAGON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

BEAUTY LOYAL began awkwardly and shortly after the start became unbalanced after being bumped by HANDSOME BO BO which was in turn bumped by MY CHANCE which shifted in abruptly despite the efforts of its rider. After becoming unbalanced, BEAUTY LOYAL shifted in and made contact with HARRIER JET, resulting in that horse being awkwardly placed outside PRANCE DRAGON.
LITTLE BIRD shifted in at the start and bumped MASTER ALBERT.
JUMBO HAPPINESS and PRANCE DRAGON bumped at the start.
From the outside barrier, SIR REDALOT was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
After being steadied in the early stages to obtain cover behind SUPER WISE, JUMBO HAPPINESS was then slow to muster speed despite being ridden along for some distance approaching and passing the 1000 Metres.
Making the turn after the 600 Metres, MY CHANCE raced tight outside the heels of HANDSOME BO BO which got its head up when awkwardly placed behind PRANCE DRAGON.
Passing the 150 Metres, HARRIER JET raced tight outside MIDNIGHT RATTLER which, when giving ground, shifted out marginally. HARRIER JET was then momentarily crowded for room passing the 100 Metres between MIDNIGHT RATTLER and HANDSOME BO BO which shifted in before being directed out to relieve the tightening to HARRIER JET.
Also passing the 150 Metres, JUMBO HAPPINESS was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MY CHANCE when being shifted to the inside of that horse to obtain clear running.
Over the concluding stages, BEAUTY LOYAL raced tight inside SIR REDALOT.
For the majority of the race, MY CHANCE travelled wide and without cover.
After the race, M F Poon, the rider of MASTER ALBERT, expressed concern regarding the horse’s action. A veterinary inspection of MASTER ALBERT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, MASTER ALBERT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
After the race, it was noted that there was blood at the left nostril of LEAN AMBASSADOR. An endoscopic examination of LEAN AMBASSADOR confirmed that horse to be a bleeder.
A veterinary inspection of HANDSOME BO BO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of SUPER WISE immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, SUPER WISE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
LITTLE BIRD and PRANCE DRAGON were sent for sampling.

Race:6 (160) TAI LAM CHUNG HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1650 m

TOP LAURELS and SICHUAN BOSS bumped at the start. TOP LAURELS then shifted in and bumped NITRO EXPRESS.
Shortly after the start, PLANET STAR shifted in after racing tight inside TANGMERE and in doing so bumped the hindquarters of VIGOR FAME, causing both horses to become unbalanced.
From wide barriers, NITRO EXPRESS and HAR HAR HEART were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Despite being ridden along in the early stages, DRAGON LIPS failed to muster speed.
Passing the 1200 Metres, VIGOR FAME raced close to the heels of SICHUAN BOSS.
After the 300 Metres, HAPPY DRAGON was directed to the inside of SICHUAN BOSS in an attempt to improve into tight running between that horse and VIGOR FAME. Then approaching the 200 Metres, HAPPY DRAGON (D Whyte) was severely checked when disappointed for running between VIGOR FAME and SICHUAN BOSS which shifted in marginally. As the Stewards were satisfied that clear running did not present itself between SICHUAN BOSS and VIGOR FAME prior to SICHUAN BOSS shifting in marginally and as a consequence HAPPY DRAGON was not able to establish running between those horses, no further action was taken. However, D Whyte was advised to show due care when attempting to improve between runners where there is doubtful room.
FLYING QUEST was held up for clear running passing the 200 Metres and was then shifted out a number of horses to obtain a run passing the 100 Metres.
Passing the 50 Metres, SICHUAN BOSS, which was giving ground, was steadied when momentarily crowded for room between PLANET STAR and HAPPY DRAGON.
In the Straight, MY POWER lay in under pressure, proved difficult to ride and passing the 100 Metres shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of PLANET STAR.
When questioned regarding the performance of PLANET STAR, K Teetan stated that after beginning only fairly, he was not able to lead the race outright as SICHUAN BOSS, from a wide barrier, showed superior early speed. He said PLANET STAR travelled only fairly during the race and, when placed under pressure in the Straight, was disappointing in the manner in which it failed to finish off the race. He added, based on the manner in which PLANET STAR raced, he believed the horse’s last start, when pressured in the lead in a fast run race, may have resulted in the horse not being able to back that performance up tonight. A veterinary inspection of PLANET STAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of SICHUAN BOSS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
PLANET STAR, LET’S TAKE IT EASY and NITRO EXPRESS were sent for sampling.

Race:8 (162) HIGH ISLAND HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 2 1200 m

On arrival at the Start, FORTUNE BOOTH had its right front plate refitted. FORTUNE BOOTH was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race.
MAGIC LEGEND began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of ALMABABY, causing MAGIC LEGEND to become badly unbalanced and lose ground. MAGIC LEGEND was then bumped by FORTUNE BOOTH which was taken in by WISHFUL THINKER. This resulted in MAGIC LEGEND losing further ground. In this incident, FORTUNE BOOTH became unbalanced after being crowded for room between MAGIC LEGEND and WISHFUL THINKER. Due to these incident, MAGIC LEGEND race back in the field. After this, from wide barriers, FORTUNE BOOTH and WISHFUL THINKER were shifted across behind runners.
SUPER HOPPY was crowded for room on jumping between CHEERFULJET and MR GENUINE which was taken out by MOMENT OF POWER which shifted out abruptly despite the efforts of its rider. In this incident, SAUL’S SPECIAL also became badly unbalanced when bumped heavily on the hindquarters by JADE THEATRE.
Making the first turn after the 1000 Metres, WISHFUL THINKER, which was racing keenly, raced tight between MAGIC LEGEND and GUNNISON which shifted in marginally.

He said SUPER HOPPY travelled well in the middle stages and after obtaining a run inside MR GENUINE at the entrance to the Straight, he expected SUPER HOPPY to finish off the race strongly. He said however that SUPER HOPPY did not quicken as it did when he rode it previously and was disappointing in the manner in which it failed to finish off the race. He added that SUPER HOPPY felt "flat” in tonight’s race which may be attributable to its recent races where it had to make a long sustained run from towards the rear of the field. A veterinary inspection of SUPER HOPPY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of CHEERFULJET immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SUPER HOPPY, WISHFUL THINKER and ALMABABY were sent for sampling.

On Monday, 29 October 2018, the Stewards informed Jockey Z Purton that they would inquire into a tweet posted by him on Sunday, 28 October 2018. The Stewards tonight interviewed Jockey Purton regarding this matter. Jockey Purton was subsequently found guilty of inappropriate behaviour under Rule 155(5) that at about 5:30 pm on Sunday, 28 October 2018, he did post a tweet from his personal account which carried a meaning critical of a currently licensed jockey relative to that jockey’s ride at the Happy Valley racemeeting on 28 October 2018. Jockey Purton was fined the sum of $5,000. In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into consideration matters including that Jockey Purton had actively assisted the Club in promoting racing, however, he was told that on this occasion his behaviour of implying criticism of a fellow jockey was not in the best interests of racing.
