Race:1 (789) STREET CAT HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 5 1650 m

Shortly after the start, ROOKIE STAR was bumped by GLORY STAR which shifted in. From the outside barriers, DUTCH WINDMILL, MI BLANCO and CELEBRATION were all shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, ROOKIE STAR was momentarily steadied away from the heels of MY BLESSING when being shifted in behind that horse to obtain cover. MONEY WINNER, which was following, was steadied away from the heels of ROOKIE STAR in consequence. Near the 950 Metres, TELECOM TITAN, which had been racing keenly, was checked away from the heels of MAGIC AGILITY. After this, TELECOM TITAN continued to race close to the heels of MAGIC AGILITY. Passing the 650 Metres, TELECOM TITAN and MONEY WINNER raced tight as TELECOM TITAN shifted out. This resulted in MONEY WINNER being left racing wide and without cover. Passing the 500 Metres, MONEY WINNER was awkwardly placed behind ROOKIE STAR which shifted out when racing close to the heels of GLORY STAR. Passing the 450 Metres, MONEY WINNER was again awkwardly placed outside the heels of ROOKIE STAR which shifted to the outside of GLORY STAR. LETSGOFREE had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight. Near the 150 Metres, CELEBRATION shifted in and brushed DUTCH WINDMILL. Approaching the 100 Metres, MONEY WINNER and LETSGOFREE raced tight. J Moreira (LETSGOFREE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching the 200 Metres he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of GLORY STAR, resulting in that horse being hampered and taken out onto TELECOM TITAN which as a result was also hampered and lost the running to which it was rightfully entitled. GOLDEN DEER was shifted out away from TELECOM TITAN in consequence. In the circumstances, the Stewards believed that the appropriate penalty was for J Moreira to be fined the sum $180,000. A veterinary inspection of MY BLESSING and TELECOM TITAN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. MONEY WINNER, LETSGOFREE and CELEBRATION were sent for sampling.

Race:2 (790) BULLDOZER HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1200 m

HONEST HORSE shifted in at the start and bumped DIAMOND LEGEND. MONEY MARSHAL began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of DIAMOND MASTER. From wide barriers, POWER MAN and STAR SUPERIOR were steadied shortly after the start and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover. Making the turn after the 1000 Metres, DIAMOND MASTER commenced to travel keenly and got its head up on a number of occasions. Making the turn after the 600 Metres, DIAMOND MASTER got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of JOLLY BOUNTIFUL. In the early part of the Straight, MONEY MARSHAL lay in under pressure. Approaching the 100 Metres, DIAMOND MASTER was momentarily awkwardly placed outside the heels of JOLLY BOUNTIFUL which shifted out under pressure. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in whilst they considered if LIGHTNING MISSILE had been afforded a fair start. After interviewing the Starter, Mr A Speechley, and viewing the videos, it was found that simultaneously with the start being effected LIGHTNING MISSILE lifted its front feet off the ground and then kicked out behind which resulted in the horse losing ground. As the Stewards were satisfied that LIGHTNING MISSILE had performed as it did as the start was effected and having regard to the fact that there were no external factors which prevented LIGHTNING MISSILE from beginning with the field, they ruled that that horse had been afforded a fair start and accordingly LIGHTNING MISSILE was declared a runner. Before being allowed to race again, LIGHTNING MISSILE will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. A veterinary inspection of LIGHTNING MISSILE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. LIGHTNING MISSILE, FANTASTIC FABIO and MR PICASSO were sent for sampling.

Race:3 (791) KINGS FALCON HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1000 m

On arrival at the Start, the tongue tie applied to NASHASHUK was replaced. CHEERS AND CHEERS began only fairly and then was crowded for room shortly after the start between WINFULL PATROL and NASHASHUK which shifted out after being brushed by LAMAROSA. PEACE N PROSPERITY shifted out at the start and bumped FLYING NOBLE. Near the 750 Metres, LAMAROSA was steadied when crowded for room inside CHEERS AND CHEERS, which after improving quickly to be racing to the inside of FLYING MONKEY (K C Leung) as that horse was being shifted across, was taken in by FLYING MONKEY and then shifted in further away from that horse. Whilst the Stewards acknowledged that CHEERS AND CHEERS had improved its position after FLYING MONKEY was initially well clear of that horse, nonetheless K C Leung was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he is aware of the changing circumstances of a race when shifting ground. Approaching the 700 Metres, NASHASHUK raced in restricted room between LAMAROSA and NAMJONG NAMJONG. After the 600 Metres, NAMJONG NAMJONG was left racing wide and without cover. When questioned regarding his riding of FORTUNE ANTHEM which was having its first race start tonight, S Clipperton stated that it was anticipated that tonight’s race would be run at a very fast tempo. He said he was instructed, from the outside barrier, to steady FORTUNE ANTHEM in the early stages and obtain a position with cover. He said he had hoped to be able to obtain about a midfield position with cover given that the race was likely to be run at a fast tempo. He said although FORTUNE ANTHEM jumped awkwardly, nonetheless it began satisfactorily and in the early stages remained racing wide in order to assess whether there would be a position in about midfield to obtain cover. He said TRIUMPHANT JEWEL, which was racing to his inside, was being vigorously ridden along at this stage and due to the makeup of the field in the early stages, he believed that he would be left racing wide and possibly without cover were he to attempt to obtain a midfield position and therefore he elected to steady FORTUNE ANTHEM approaching the 800 Metres and obtain a trailing position behind DR RACE towards the rear of the field. He added after trailing that horse throughout the middle stages, he commenced to ride his mount along rounding the Home Turn and shifted to the outside of DR RACE on straightening. He said he did consider attempting to shift FORTUNE ANTHEM to the outside of NASHASHUK, however, at that time NAMJONG NAMJONG was positioned to his outside and he was aware of FLYING NOBLE racing to the outside of that horse and therefore he did not believe that he would be able to shift FORTUNE ANTHEM to the outside of NASHASHUK without causing interference to either of those horses. He said near the 250 Metres he shifted FORTUNE ANTHEM out to be trailing PEACE N PROSPERITY albeit some distance behind that horse and at this time he felt that the best option for him to pursue was a run to the inside of PEACE N PROSPERITY which was available between that horse and DR RACE which would have allowed him to follow the eventual winner FLYING MONKEY through the field. He said although he was aware that there was a run available to the outside of PEACE N PROSPERITY, he felt that by the time FORTUNE ANTHEM improved into a position to take that run, there was a possibility that that run would close due to either horse shifting ground and he therefore felt that the more likely option of obtaining clear running would be to pursue a run to the inside of PEACE N PROSPERITY. He said after committing FORTUNE ANTHEM to this run, DR RACE was taken out by CHEERS AND CHEERS approaching the 100 Metres which resulted in FORTUNE ANTHEM being awkwardly placed behind DR RACE. He said he continued to ride his mount out until after the 50 Metres, however, as clear running was not available for FORTUNE ANTHEM over the concluding stages, he was not able to properly test that horse out close to the finishing line. Mr D J Hall, the trainer of FORTUNE ANTHEM, confirmed that he believed tonight’s race would be run at a very quick tempo and therefore although FORTUNE ANTHEM had shown some speed in its barrier trials in Hong Kong, he believed that were the horse to be ridden to obtain a forward position, there would be a high likelihood that FORTUNE ANTHEM would be left very wide and without cover. He said therefore, given that the horse was having its first start in Hong Kong, he believed that it would be detrimental to the horse’s chances to finish off the race were it not able to obtain cover and accordingly instructed Jockey Clipperton to obtain a three wide position with cover if possible, however, he was unaware of whether that would position FORTUNE ANTHEM in the field. He said although FORTUNE ANTHEM had drawn the outside barrier tonight, he anticipated that the horse would race well given that it had trialed pleasingly in the lead up to the race and accordingly he advised the connections that FORTUNE ANTHEM would perform well tonight. S Clipperton was advised that his riding of FORTUNE ANTHEM, particularly in the Home Straight, had come under notice and that his decision not to pursue the run between PEACE N PROSPERITY and NASHASHUK had caused the Stewards to give consideration as to whether he should be charged with a breach of a significant Rule of Racing. S Clipperton was severely reprimanded and advised that he must ensure that he rides his mounts in such a manner that his intention to win or to obtain the best possible placing is not open to query. A veterinary inspection of FORTUNE ANTHEM immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on LAMAROSA at the request of Trainer P O’Sullivan. The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, LAMAROSA will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. LAMAROSA, FLYING MONKEY and MR RIGHT were sent for sampling.

Race:4 (792) MAVERICK STAR HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1650 m

WAH MAY BABY was withdrawn on 10.7.18 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left front foot). Before being allowed to race again, WAH MAY BABY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. GOOD CHOICE AHEAD shifted out at the start and bumped SICHUAN BOSS which shifted out and bumped SPEEDY WALLY which at the same time received contact from WIN FOR CHARITY, which after beginning awkwardly, was taken in by STARLIT KNIGHT. From wide barriers, NEVER BETTER and FLYING QUEST were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Passing the 1600 Metres, SICHUAN BOSS was steadied when crowded for room between SPEEDY WALLY (U Rispoli) which got its head on the side and lay in and GOOD CHOICE AHEAD (K C Leung) which shifted out. Both U Rispoli and K C Leung were advised to ensure that they took corrective measures at the earliest opportunity to prevent their horses from shifting ground and causing interference to other runners. Passing the 1300 Metres, SPEEDY WALLY commenced to prove very difficult to settle and got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of GO GO WIN. After the 900 Metres, SPEEDY WALLY was left racing wide and without cover. At the entrance to the Straight, GENTRY was awkwardly placed behind WIN FOR CHARITY. When questioned, K C Leung stated that he was asked, from a good barrier, to ride GOOD CHOICE AHEAD behind the speed if possible. He said after taking some time to clear GENTRY to his inside, he commenced to steady his mount passing the winning post on the first occasion to allow WIN FOR CHARITY to cross GOOD CHOICE AHEAD. He said however that WIN FOR CHARITY was then steadied by its rider and when that horse did not improve into the lead, GOOD CHOICE AHEAD commenced to travel keenly and he was initially not able to restrain the horse in an attempt to take a trailing position. He said when ELUSIVE STATE improved around GOOD CHOICE AHEAD after the 1200 Metres, he again steadied his mount to obtain a trailing position behind ELUSIVE STATE as that horse was being ridden to lead. He added after being crossed by ELUSIVE STATE, GOOD CHOICE AHEAD again commenced to prove difficult to settle and he had to check GOOD CHOICE AHEAD away from that horse. He said when he did this he was left with no alternative but to shift to the outside of ELUSIVE STATE as GOOD CHOICE AHEAD was clipping the heels of that horse. He said this resulted in GOOD CHOICE AHEAD having to race outside the lead and without cover. When questioned, Apprentice M F Poon stated that he was instructed to bring FLYING QUEST to the outside of runners to make his run in the Home Straight. He said he was aware that STARLIT KNIGHT had raced three wide throughout the race and as he was following SICHUAN BOSS after the 500 Metres, a horse he considered to be a strong chance in the race, he elected to follow that horse through rounding the Home Turn as he believed that this horse would take him into the race. He said as STARLIT KNIGHT had been racing in a three wide position, he anticipated that that horse may weaken which would provide FLYING QUEST with the opportunity to shift to the outside of SICHUAN BOSS and make his run as instructed to the outside of runners. He added however rounding the Home Turn SICHUAN BOSS came under heavy pressure and did not finish off the race and accordingly he was obliged to shift to the inside of SICHUAN BOSS in an attempt to obtain clear running. He said when no runs opened up in front of FLYING QUEST, he was held up for clear running and it was not until after the 150 Metres that he was able to direct FLYING QUEST out from behind SPEEDY WALLY to obtain clear running. Apprentice Poon was advised that his explanation would be reported. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SICHUAN BOSS, J Moreira stated that, from barrier 4, it was anticipated that the horse would be able to take up a position in midfield or in advance of midfield. He said after being hampered on jumping, SICHUAN BOSS, despite being ridden along, was reluctant to improve its position between GOOD CHOICE AHEAD and SPEEDY WALLY. He said after striking interference after the 1600 Metres, this resulted in SICHUAN BOSS travelling further back in the field than had been anticipated. He added SICHUAN BOSS travelled satisfactorily in the middle stages, however, when placed under pressure rounding the Home Turn was disappointing in the manner in which it failed to respond to his riding and did not close off the race. The performance of SICHUAN BOSS, favourite for tonight’s race, which finished at the rear of the field, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SICHUAN BOSS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of SICHUAN BOSS immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. A veterinary inspection of WIN FOR CHARITY and ELUSIVE STATE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. SICHUAN BOSS, CHARITY WINGS and STARLIT KNIGHT were sent for sampling.

Race:5 (793) SWEET ORANGE HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1800 m

As the start was effected, MULTI FACETS reared and lost a considerable amount of ground. Before being allowed to race again, MULTI FACETS will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. WILLIE WAY began only fairly. Shortly after the start, TRAVEL FIRST and NAMJONG PLUS were crowded for room between HIGH VOLATILITY and DYNAMIC EAGLE which shifted in after beginning awkwardly. In this incident, NAMJONG PLUS bumped the hindquarters of TRAVEL FIRST which became unbalanced and shifted out before being corrected and which resulted in NAMJONG PLUS striking the heels of TRAVEL FIRST and blundering. From the outside barrier, FAITHFUL TRINITY was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. After the 1200 Metres, HAR HAR HEART was left racing wide and without cover and passing the 850 Metres was allowed to improve its position into the lead passing the 700 Metres. Making the turn near the 550 Metres, DYNAMIC EAGLE was awkwardly placed behind MULTI FACETS. At the entrance to the Straight, NAMJONG PLUS was awkwardly placed close to the heels of WILLIE WAY when being shifted to the outside of that horse to obtain clear running. Near the 250 Metres, MULTI FACETS raced tight between TRAVEL FIRST and HAPPY SPIRIT when improving into running between those horses. Close to the finishing line, WILLIE WAY raced tight inside NAMJONG PLUS and consequently was not able to be ridden out close to the finishing line. A veterinary inspection of SKY MELODY immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Before being allowed to race again, SKY MELODY will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of MULTI FACETS and MCQUEEN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. SKY MELODY, NAMJONG PLUS and TEN FLAMES were sent for sampling.

Race:6 (794) LET ME FIGHT HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1000 m

On arrival at the Start, it was noted that WAYFOONG VINNIE was lame in its right front leg. Acting on advice from the Veterinary Officer that WAYFOONG VINNIE was not suitable to race, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of that horse. Before being allowed to race again, WAYFOONG VINNIE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. KEEP MOVING began awkwardly and then was bumped by GENERAL IRON which shifted in. After this, GENERAL IRON was steadied to obtain cover. Shortly after the start, JOYFUL FAMILY shifted out and bumped KEEP MOVING, causing both horses to become unbalanced. From wide barriers, JOY MASTER and GENEROUS HEART were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Making the turn near the 550 Metres, SAUL’S SPECIAL and STORM SIGNAL raced tight. After being bumped by KEEP MOVING (Apprentice M F Poon) which shifted out marginally near the 400 Metres, DEMONS ROCK shifted out abruptly away from that horse, resulting in GENERAL IRON, which was following DEMONS ROCK, being severely checked away from the heels of that horse and making the Home Turn very wide. Apprentice Poon was advised that whilst his mount did not shift a significant amount of ground in this incident and that DEMONS ROCK had over-reacted to the contact, nonetheless he was warned against the practice of using the whip on horses rounding a turn. After this, GENERAL IRON was eased down. Given the severe interference suffered by GENERAL IRON, the Stewards ruled that no further action was required to be taken against the horse despite it finished tailed out. A veterinary inspection of GENERAL IRON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Passing the 300 Metres, SAUL’S SPECIAL shifted out to obtain clear running and brushed BEAUTY LOYAL. Approaching the 200 Metres, GENEROUS HEART was directed out away from the heels of JOY MASTER as that horse shifted out to obtain clear running. Close to the finishing line, HEALTHY LUCK was awkwardly placed outside the heels of BEAUTY LOYAL and consequently was not able to be ridden out over the concluding stages. For the majority of the race, HEALTHY LUCK travelled wide and without cover. The performance of DEMONS ROCK, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, DEMONS ROCK will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of DEMONS ROCK immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. HEALTHY LUCK, SAUL’S SPECIAL and STORM SIGNAL were sent for sampling.

Race:7 (795) SUN JEWELLERY HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 2 1200 m

FORTUNE BOOTH was withdrawn on 10.7.18 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter SEVEN HEAVENS (W M Lai). Before being allowed to race again, FORTUNE BOOTH will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. On arrival at the Start, H N Wong expressed concern regarding the action of JUMBO LUCK. JUMBO LUCK was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said that after the necessary consultations the horse was suitable to race. ROYAL PRINCE began very awkwardly and lost ground. From the outside barrier, ARCHIPPUS was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners. JUMBO LUCK began awkwardly. SOLOMON’S BAY began only fairly and then was steadied away from the heels of GUNNISON which shifted out. After initially being ridden along, SUNNY WIN was shifted across behind runners after failing to muster speed. JUMBO LUCK travelled wide and without cover until passing the 600 Metres at which time E-SUPER was left racing wide and without cover. Passing the 300 Metres, SUPER TURBO was shifted to the inside of E-SUPER to obtain clear running. At the time of declaration, C Schofield notified as being probable 2 lb overweight in respect of ROYAL PRINCE’s allocated weight of 114 lbs. C Schofield weighed out 2 lbs overweight in accordance with this notification, however, on return to scale was found to have weighed in at 118 lbs. As C Schofield weighed in 2 lbs over the weight notified at the time of declaration and as this was the 4th occasion he had been penalized for a similar offence during this season, he was fined the sum of $10,000. A veterinary inspection of SEVEN HEAVENS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of SOLOMON’S BAY immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, SOLOMON’S BAY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SOLOMON’S BAY, SUPER TURBO and GUNNISON were sent for sampling.

Race:8 (796) SILVER GRECIAN HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1200 m

COUNTRY MELODY was withdrawn on 10.7.18 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter MONEYMORE (J Moreira). Before being allowed to race again, COUNTRY MELODY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. BEST STEP began only fairly and shifted out towards the heels of HIGH FIVE. STARLIGHT and DOUBLE VALENTINE bumped at the start. After travelling a short distance, BUOYANT BOY shifted in away from the heels of FANTASTIC FEELING which shifted in. From the outside barrier, FALCON TURBO was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover. MONEYMORE got its head on the side and lay out making the first turn near the 1000 Metres and consequently raced very wide until being able to shift across to join the field near the 850 Metres. After MONEYMORE was shifted across behind MY CHANCE passing the 800 Metres to obtain cover, LADY FIRST improved quickly to be racing close to the heels of that horse, resulting in LADY FIRST having to be checked away from the heels of MONEYMORE. DOUBLE VALENTINE, which was following, was awkwardly placed close to the heels of LADY FIRST in consequence. Making the turn after the 550 Metres, BEST STEP (C Schofield) became badly unbalanced in its action. C Schofield stated that when this happened he immediately eased BEST STEP down as he believed that that horse had gone amiss. A veterinary inspection of BEST STEP immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of BEST STEP was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, BEST STEP will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Making the turn near the 450 Metres, MONEYMORE got its head on the side and then lay out as it weakened rounding the Home Turn. After the 200 Metres, LADY FIRST lay in and was awkwardly placed outside the heels of STARLIGHT which was being shifted out. When questioned, Z Purton stated that he had previously been asked if possible to shift STARLIGHT to the outside of runners to make its finishing run as the horse can sometimes be flat-footed when the field quickens and being to the outside of runners gives the horse the best opportunity to have uninterrupted running so that it is able to use the momentum it builds up. He said with this in mind, he commenced to shift STARLIGHT out near the 150 Metres as there was clear and uninterrupted running to the outside of MY CHANCE. He said as he was shifting STARLIGHT to the outside of MY CHANCE, BUOYANT BOY, which was finishing off the race quickly, shifted in under pressure which resulted in him being unable to direct STARLIGHT to the outside of MY CHANCE. He said he then shifted STARLIGHT back to the inside of MY CHANCE, however, was unable to improve between MY CHANCE and EAGLE due to there being insufficient room. He added whilst there was a run available to the inside of EAGLE and to the outside of FANTASTIC FEELING near the 150 Metres, he was reluctant to improve into that run when it appeared to him that there was more likelihood of clear running remaining available to the outside of MY CHANCE. A veterinary inspection of MONEYMORE and HIGH FIVE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. BOUYANT BOY and FANTASTIC FEELING were sent for sampling.
