Race 1 - VRC Member Maureen OConnell Handicap - 2510m:
Crocodile Rock (IRE) - connections advised would attempt to lead; led. Weakened from the 400m; rider Michael Dee reported that the gelding did not feel comfortable in its action. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg and a veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again.
Kilimanjaro (IRE) - raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
Serenade The Stars (IRE) - rider Jye McNeil reported that the gelding was not suited by the rise in class. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have the thumps.
As Andrew Mallyon (Kilimanjaro (IRE)) was prevented from weighing in, after having suffered an asthma attack during the race. Stewards were satisfied he had carried his correct weight and exercised their powers under AR142 and declared correct weight.
Race 2 - VRC Member Peter Dakin Handicap - 1000m:
Costa Bomb - slow to begin.
Prezado - raced keenly in the middle stages. Laid out under pressure.
Bandipur - tightened for room near the 500m between Sunday Escape and Prezado which shifted in.
Race 3 - VRC Member Abigail Bartlett Handicap - 1400m:
Sergeant - knuckled and sprawled as the start was effected. Raced wide without cover from the 800m. Rider Damian Lane reported that his mount pulled hard and as a result failed to finish off. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Muswellbrook - commenced awkwardly and lost ground. Held up between the 500m and the 400m.
Zaidin - commenced awkwardly.
East Indiaman - commenced awkwardly.
Race 4 - VRC Member Rhonda Sexton Handicap - 1400m:
Spanner Head - commenced awkwardly.
Mariquita - commenced awkwardly. Rider Michael Dee reported that his mount was not suited by the slow tempo. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Shenandoah (NZ) - commenced awkwardly. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
Chiavari - Raced keenly through the early stages.
Lopartega - raced wide without cover.
Harmattan - rider Dwayne Dunn reported that his mount was fractious in the mounting yard and prior to the start and was then not suited to the slow tempo. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 5 - VRC Member James Hibberd Handicap - 1200m:
The Card Players - connections advised would be ridden more positive; commenced awkwardly and settled at the rear of the field. Passing the 300m was inconvenienced by Dont Blush Baby that shifted in when attempting to obtain clear running. Approaching the 200m was again inconvenienced by Dont Blush Baby that continued to shift in.
Tahi (NZ) - eased from the start.
Illumicon - began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with Choisborder.
Dont Blush Baby - approaching the 200m was steadied to avoid the heels of Tardis which shifted in before being straightened.
Illumicon - when questioned regarding his tactics, rider Luke Currie explained that he was given no specific instructions and that he made a mid-race decision passing the 900m to shift out across the face of the field to sit outside Canelo near the 700m. It was his view that the gelding had a tendency to wander when on the inside and he felt the gelding would benefit from racing amid other runners. He added that after walking the track he felt the extreme outside of the track was as good as any other section. He further added that with the even tempo in the race he felt at the time this was his best option but in hindsight he may have been better to have stayed towards the inside of the field. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Gold Mag (NZ) - rider Mark Zahra reported his mount would be better suited over further distance and round a turn.
Race 6 - VRC Member Darren Allsop Handicap - 2000m:
Bling Dynasty - fourth placegetter; prior to correct weight rider Damien Oliver viewed the patrol film before deciding not to lodge an objection. Held up from the 150m until passing the 50m when racing in restricted room to the inside of Fontein Lad which shifted in slightly.
I Boogi - connections advised would be ridden quiet from the wide gate; raced three wide with cover mid field.
Portion Control - commenced awkwardly.
Haripour (IRE) - commenced awkwardly. Held up from the 400m and went to the line not tested.
Hardern - over-raced in the early stages.
Orakei Overlord (NZ) - raced wide without cover. Apprentice Nathan Punch reported the gelding failed to run out a strong 2000m due to racing wide. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have blood from one nostril and must now gallop over 1000m in the presence of a Steward prior to racing again.
Urban Ruler - when held up near the 250m, had to be checked off the heels of I Boogi when unable to obtain clear running.
Kaching - apprentice Liam Riordan stated his mount did not run out a strong 2000m. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Sir Edwin Landseer (IRE) - led and weakened from the 300m; rider Ben Melham reported that his mount raced fresh and would derive benefit from the run. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 7 - Auries Star Handicap (Group 3) - 1200m:
Man From Uncle - refused to load and was subsequently a late withdrawal by order of Stewards at 3.56pm and the gelding must now obtain further approval in an official trial prior to racing again. All monies bet for a win and/or place and concession betting on Man From Uncle to be refunded. All successful bets on horses prior to 3.56pm are subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket: win bets - 3 cents, place bets (for winner) - 5 cents, place bets (for 2nd) - 4 cents, place bets (for 3rd) - 4 cents and double bets 3 cents.
Poetic Dream (IRE) - rider Jordan Childs reported his mount was left flat footed and would appreciate races of greater distance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 8 - VRC Member Damian Cubela Handicap - 1400m:
Instant De Reve (FR) - commenced awkwardly and shifted out abruptly causing interference to other runners. Over-raced in the early and middle stages.
Nights Watch - slow to begin before being checked by Instant De Reve (FR). Laid outwards in the home straight.
Odeon (NZ) - checked at the start due to Instant De Reve shifting out.
Barthelona - commenced awkwardly before being checked at the start due to Instant De Reve shifting out.
Mr Garcia (GB) - commenced awkwardly before being hampered at the start.
Theanswermyfriend - apprentice Ben Allen reported he was instructed to have the gelding in the first four with the intention of not having it over-racing. He added that after having began well and due to some interference happening out wide which affected the early speed, he was left comfortably in front. Trainer Darren Weir confirmed the instructions given and added that the instructions given today were similar to that given at its previous two runs.
Race 9 - VRC Members Handicap - 1700m:
Al Galayel (IRE) - connections advised would be ridden handy with cover; eased from the start before settling worse than mid-field.
Mantastic (IRE) - slow to begin (two lengths).
Zagaya - near the 1400m brushed the rail when racing tight to the inside of Sikandarabad (IRE) that in turn was receiving some pressure from Tan Tat Trusting (Chris Parnham) to its outside; Chris Parnham was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care.
Al Haram (FR) - raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide without cover.
