Anaheed in stylish Randwick win

A home-bred for Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum stylishly won the $125,000, Harrolds Victory Vein Plate (1000m) at Randwick with jockey Tim Clark commenting that the Fastnet Rock filly Anaheed was not too sure what racing was all about.

Notwithstanding the Snowden trained Anaheed’s inexperience at her first start, she won with 4L in hand even after running about for Clark over the concluding stages.

Entering the main straight some in the field scattered sideways bamboozled by the turn, but Clark had Anaheed three wide outside the leaders and from that point they left the rest behind.

Anaheed showed scant regard for the Heavy 9 track as she went clear and once Clark straightened her she ran well to the line.

Disruptor (Dissident) and Ben Melham were second with Ready’s Girl (Better Than Ready) and Jason Collett third, the margin a further 2L away.

The time was 59.7 with the final 600m in 36.18. Anaheed paid $4.60 on both fixed odds and the tote.

“That was a really good win,” said co-trainer Paul Snowden.

“She only trialled again on Monday this week and Dad was very happy with the way she handled the soft conditions on Monday, it was not a very testing trial and she still has a fair in hand and she was not overly extended so he said we will have a lash and see where we draw and here we are.

“She is a very loose walker with a great attitude and she has really stamped herself. She will definitely improve with a bit of a break under her belt as well.

“The Sheikh is a really big supporter of Australian racing. Oohood won the Group 1 the other day and to have this on the back of that he will be tickled,” he said.

The three-year-old I Am Invincible filly Oohood, trained by Tony McEvoy, won the Group 1 Flight Stakes over 1600m at Randwick on September 29th.

Anaheed has a pedigree to match her win with her dam the Group 1 winning Testa Rossa mare Rostova.

Snowden suggested that the filly will now be given a short break with a view to returning for higher targets.
