The Melbourne Racing Club has received 15 nominations for the $250,000, Group 2 Sandown Guineas (1600m) at Sandown-Hillside on Saturday including two from the Hayes and Dabernig stable, Good ‘N’ Fast and Long Leaf.
For both colts it is an opportunity to break through this spring after placings but no wins over their campaigns.
Good ‘N’ Fast, by Sebring, was fourth in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas over 1600m on October 13th, 5 3/4L from the impressive winner The Autumn Sun. He was then eighth in the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes over 1600m at Flemington on Derby Day, November 3rd.
Long Leaf, by Fastnet Rock, has campaigned well without winning this time in. A duel stakes winner last season he has twice Group 1 placed over the spring and then was sixth in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes over 1200m at Flemington on the 3rd, 4L from the winner Sunlight.
Mick Price has nominated his Group 1 winning filly Seabrook (NZ) who is coming off a sixth in the Group 1 Empire Rose Stakes over 1600m at Flemington on the 3rd. Previously she was third in the Group 1 1000 Guineas over 1600m on October 13th.
Darren Weir has nominated last Saturday’s Flemington winner Ringerdingding after the Sebring colt’s win in the listed Hilton Stakes over 1400m. The stable have also nominated Junipal after the Reset colt was second in the listed Connoisseur Stakes over 1800m on Oaks Day last Thursday.
The track is currently rated a Good 4 and the rail will be in the true position for the entire circuit.
Melbourne’s weather this week is for partly cloudy days with 28c on Tuesday to 21c on Friday. There is a medium (60%) chance of showers with 0mm-3mm possible on Tuesday and Wednesday. Saturday’s forecast is for a partly cloudy day with 11c – 21c.
