Connections of Sussex Stakes contender Farhh are hoping for some cut in the ground at Glorious Goodwood on Wednesday but even if conditions suit, a tough task awaits the four-year-old in the shape of Frankel, who is 1-20 in places for the Qipco-backed Group 1.
Supplemented for the Sussex Stakes at a cost of £19,500, Farrh has some decent top-level form to his name having finished third in the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot and second in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown last time.
"Farhh has been doing well since he ran at Sandown and I have been happy with him," trainer Saeed Bin Suroor said on Thursday when eight horses were confirmed for the Sussex.
"I think that a mile at Goodwood will suit him well but we would prefer to see some rain before Wednesday because he prefers to have a little cut in the ground.
"He has run very well in two Group 1 races but taking on Frankel will be a very tough task. I am hopeful that he can put in another good performance."
Coral and William Hill offer 1-20 about Frankel - the world's best Flat horse - winning the race for the second successive year, although Paddy Power are 1-10. Farhh is a top-priced 8-1 with Coral, but his supporters are likely to keep a close eye on the ground and weather forecasts before his big assignment.
Goodwood's clerk of the course Seamus Buckley, who gave the going as good on Thursday, said: "We started watering at 6am this morning.
"There is a chance of a shower tomorrow afternoon but this is not forecast to amount to anything significant and is the only rain forecast in the next few days, so the watering will help to maintain the course in its current condition.
"I am very happy with the condition of the course and we are where we want to be at this stage.
"It is very pleasing to see such a good entry for Wednesday and we are all eagerly anticipating Frankel's return to Glorious Goodwood in the Sussex Stakes."
