Cecil says he would 'love' to see Frankel vs Caviar
16 May 2012 | Racingpost.com Sir Henry Cecil has said he would "love" to see Frankel and Black Caviar cross swords in the Qipco Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.
Lockinge betting Watch the interview Speaking in a British Champions Series video interview, Sir Henry confessed that like racing fans around the globe he is excited by the prospect of the two best racehorses in the world meeting this summer.
"Black Caviar is obviously very, very good and very consistent," he said. "I'd love them to meet because it's good for racing. Racing needs to see good horses and it would be lovely to see champions from Australia and England taking on each other - I'd love to see it. The only race they could possibly meet is the Sussex."
Sir Henry added that Frankel is likely to stay at 1m at least until Royal Ascot, saying he could step up to 1m2f in the Coral-Eclipse onJuly 7 or the Juddmonte International on August 22.
The 1m Qipco Sussex Stakes falls on August 1 and the race sponsors have promised to raise the prize-money to £1 million if both champions turn up.
Frankel returns to the racecourse in the JLT Lockinge this Saturday, for which his main rival Excelebration was on Tuesday cut to 11-4 (from 7-2) by Coral. Frankel is a best-priced 2-5 for the race.
